If this company would put the computers to use like they are supposed to and train the route salesman to order the proper way with the handheld they could save millions of dollars a year but all they do is push push push they throw away a thousand dollars to make a hundred, does that sound like good bussiness and by the way soon they won't be known as the largest bakery of fresh bread and cakes because the soars program is going to take care of that they are already freezeing bread and sending it to depots and believe me that is not fresh bread.

This company sucks they talk about cutting costs by fireing people and closeing plants and depots.how about this cost, from supervisors plusses and bulk adds if the company runs 10 percent returns a year you are looking at about 400 million dollars thrown in the dumpsters or sold or given away as hogfeed, this much bread would feed a small country for a year.

How does this company expect the working force to follow guidelines and rules when management when they do the same job has their own way of doing things but if you do it this way your job is threatened or you get a write up,know what i'm talking about been there 30 years.

Lets hope the visitors do not click on previous months or we are in BIG trouble. Comments posted on this site can only do the employees wrong because we will suffer if they stop buying our products because of something they read here. Please IBC, take this site from these guys, it is killing us !!! Also, to the consumer who wants a tollfree number, here___ (800) 777-8067

Comment: I came to this site to post a comment about hair that I found embedded in a ding dong I was eating but............after spending 20 or more minutes looking over this site and reading some very interesting posts I decided to save my complaint because it is so minor compared to the problems the consumers are having with this company. I will say something good about this company though...they may be putting products out on the market that are killing people (Moldy, etc..) but they do not discrimnate against the elderly because the hair I found was about 12 inches long and GRAY. However, I will NOT buy anything with IBC on it and will tell all my friends about this site.

I contacted the stoe about a return and they wont take them back or give me a refund because the boxes are open. I believe this to be a major screw up some where down the line, I mean who sells a ding dong with no cream. if I wanted dry chocolate cake that is what I would have bought.

Comment: I recently purchased a loaf of the Wonder White Low Fat Bread. When I got to the middle of the loaf there were swirls of blue plastic in several of the pieces. It looked much like the blue in the wrapper. Considering the extra one pays for the Low Fat vs the regular it is even more dissapointing when one finds something of this nature in this product.

To Mr. all CAPITALS from LA____; yes there are a lot of bitter employees working for IBC but look real close at their comments. They are not saying they do not like their jobs, they are commenting on the B.S. and unjustices thrown their way from IBC management. It is commendable that you can say "I LOVE MY JOB" but you are out of line to tell someone "IF YOU DONT LIKE YOUR JOB GO FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO WORK AT !!!"____You are making the assumption that they do not like their job, and no one is saying that. If you were treated unjustly by IBC management would you go find another job or would you try to expose the unjustice? I believe this site serves a good purpose___To allow employees who love their jobs tell the world how bitter they are with IBC's management and their policies. And most of all the lack of INTEGRITY by this company !!!

Comment: Hello, I was wondering if the ingredients and the making of the fruit pies has changed? I bought an apple pie this morning and the filling was a really thick gel and the apples seemed like they small bits of dehydrated apples. The thick gel in them is really yucky! The filling use to be more like a real apple pie. The amount of apple scrapings that was in there was sad... Why even bother putting them in there? Also, to use dehydrated apples or whatever they were does not add anything to their flavor. Anyway, if they planning on keeping the change it is not a good one. If you need to know, my UPC number is...

Comment: My husband won't let me buy any brand of bread but Butternut. He says it is the only bread worth buying. He prefers my homemade, but I don't make it as often as I used to. I buy Butternut white, light rye, wheat, and buns. It doesn't matter if it is on sale or whether or not I have a coupon, this is one item he won't let me substitute with another brand. However, the last couple of times, the white bread has been unsatisfactory. It is "airy," not the usual texture. Is this a problem? A new standard? None of my family is happy with it. When I pay $1.69 for a loaf of bread, it is sad to be unhappy with the quality. Please tell me this a just a problem they are working on, not a new standard!

Comment: Every plant has their problems. Most just wish they could make bread and buns as well as Cincinnati does. Every department from production to engineering has made significant improvements. Keepin mind this is one of the oldest plants IBC has. No improvement dollars have been spent here in many years. So for the plant to run as well as it does and maintain the quality it has for so long, well that just about says it all. I've found once a plant gets close to the top the cry-babies try to knock them off so their own problems don't look so bad. Come on join the team and let's all try to do well, after all our lives depend on our jobs.

I wish you people would make and sell those again...they were great...I remember eating them as a kid....I'm 41 now...so it has been a while...I'm sure they would sell especially in today's consumer atmosphere. If you do a search on the internet on "Chocodile" (as I did) you can see that there is an interest in these snack cakes....though it seems most people, like me, have almost given up any hope of ever seeing one again.

The supervisors of that shop are OVERPAYED, UNDEREDUCATED AND INCOMPETENT. The only people that keep this plant running is the engineers themselves. Ill grant you that every Dept. has their share of dead weight ,its just that the 05 Engineering Dept has theirs at the top . So , you have your opinion as everyone else does, but lets here your opinion in a month or so when those SO CALLED WONDERFUL ENGINEERING SUPERS are still working and your ass is in the cheese line laid off.

Comment: Management does not sit around, they have to make sure all do their jobs and also take care of customer complaints, build new business, do unending paperwork, only problem is they work harder and longer hours that salesman and they make less money, they are just trying to work their way up the ladder, otherwise they would go back to sales where the real money is made, it is ashame that management does not even make route average pay. So do not complain about them, sure their are some lazy ones, but things catch up with them, the others work their ___off.

Good news about all the cuts in management. Most of them just sit around their offices and hang out in the lunch rooms smokeing and talking with their co workers and female employees.Glad to see them go.

I've heard that as part of the cutbacks there will be only one boss of the western states (IBC WEST). There will not be anymore plant manager position. There will be only be one HR dept. for the whole region ,not one at every plant. Plus a whole lot more changes in the general sales mgr. and district mgr. positions. Stay tuned.

Comment: All of these problems and complaints of SOUR tasting cakes is scary. This is an indication of bacteria growing and can lead to serious illness. Reading these comments should lead to action by the public. Call your local health department and news media and complain. What are the plans IBC has to address this? Also their employee problems, And quality control?

Comment: We purchased a loaf of Merita whole wheat bread which contained pieces of hard white plastic cooked in the bread. My husband cut his mouth on the bread. Upon further inspection of the loaf, we found more plastic. We contacted the Silva, NC representative and told him that all we wanted was for him to see for himself the condition of the bread so that he could inform the appropriate people and prevent such problems in the future. The representative told us that he would call us on a specific day while he was in Franklin, NC and pick up the bread. We waited for his call on that day but he did not call us. What do you think we should do with the bread. We still have it and are annoyed that their representative was not responsive

How do you explain the reasoning of 17 engineers having 5, yes 5 supervisors @ about acost of $320,000 a year ? When you Have a production supervisor running an entire bakery by themselved. I am greatful to have job with this company, however it is a bltent example of missmanagement and incompetence on the 05 plants management . The company preaches cut cost and expense. Well, tou could save at least $150,00 a year in the engineering depts managerial suite alone.

Comment: Hi..I've been buying your Hostess Mini muffins for quite some time now. There is supposed to be SIX muffins per pack. The last box I bought only contained FOUR per pack. This is a rip off! What is going on with the company here lately? Are the employees snagging them coming down the line?

Comment: This letter is to inform you of 2 boxes of "old" Hostess Twinkies and Cup Cakes that I purchased. These were both the low fat version and within a week of my purchase, the snacks in the individual packages were molding. I no longer had the receipt for these products therefor making it difficult to return them. Is this typical of the low fat version of snacks, as I have not noticed it to be a problem with the regular ones.

to the 3rd party.People pay a top price for brand name products no matter what it is and when people pay that price they should get it and as everyone can see it's not happening with ibc, that's why their stock dropped so much and closing of plants and changing of upper management and this same management that don't know how to run a bread company has hired outside help to tell them what they are doing wrong and these people don't know either. As far as you stumbling across this site i don't believe it , most of the time when you stumble on a site on the pc it's because of pop ups and in four years on the pc i have never had a pop up from this site and i don't believe you did either.

I, too, think it is unfortunate that the management has not kept us, the employees who apparently are going to lose their 20+ year positions, informed of the plans concerning our futures at IBC. Unfortunatly, some of us have let our jobs become too much a part of our lives and have let IBC become too dear to us over the years. We have given much more than we could ever hope to get in return just because we have a good work ethic and because we believed in a common cause for years.( To make the very best bread anywhere in the country.) We were and, for the most part, are still very proud of our product and it hurts us to see all this bickering and inattention to details tear down the very thing we have worked so hard to create and keep at the top. I think the hardest part is feeling as if we have put our very best effort (and then some) forward and we have no control in this downward spiral. It is just sad. There is no other term to describe the feeling. We do deserve to be kept in the loop, if nothing else.

Comment: I used to eat Italian Rolls as a snack because I loved them so much. Then I stopped. I couldn't remember why. I recently began purchasing the Italian Rolls, and again devoured them with much enjoyment. After eating two packages, I bought my third. This would have been on October 21, 2003. I baked them up today only to find that three of the ten rolls were moldy! The expiration date was October 27, 2003! I stored them in the refrigerator even though the store I bought them in stored them on the counter. I am really disappointed. Now I know why I stopped eating them a few years ago. I also I understand why they don't put an 800 number on your packages.

For the Past two months Wonder bread that I would like to purchase, the loaves are always smashed so I have to buy some other brand which I don't really care for, also for years every morning I eat Hostess HoHos and also for the past two months the product is no where to be found. I ask the stores manager and he said it is the drivers or delivery person s responsiblity to make sure your products are stocked and not damaged. Well they are not doing their job as far as I'm concerned. I hope you can remedy this problem in Bushnell, Florida. Thank You for your time.

I hope this web site stays up for our sake!!! I have been a customer for over 20 years and I have personally seen the quality go south!!_____________ There is an obvious problem with Health codes, Product Freshness, and overall satisfaction with all or most of the products IBC makes. YES....the "Media" should look into this!!! ASAP. I personally have forwarded this site to many media sites and asked them to take a look.______________ As for the Employee's, If they are not happy, even as low as 40% with their jobs, performance will suffer, and the domino theory is in effect!! From the top...down._______________ Good luck to all the employees who obviously care about US....THE CONSUMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep up the good fight, the public is watching!!!

Comment: On October 18 my 6year old son came home from school and I wanted to snack on what he had picked out from the local store. He asked if he could have an after school snack and I said sure go pick it out. He picked the Hostess Mini Blueberry muffins. He sat at the table and shared some muffins with his 18 month old sister. My phone rang I answered it and then went to give him some milk to drink with his Hostess Blueberry Muffins and noticed that the uneaten muffins were very moldy. The inside of the bag was also very moldy. The Code on the box label is CB129P1-A 7268-0090, and the number stamped on the individual bag is 250062A3 dated Oct 22. I want to bring this matter to the attention of this company and hopefully it is an isolated incident. My family enjoys your products and I am sure that customer satisfaction is priority at Hostess.

I cut the second ball open, and still very little cream.. The sale date on the product was 11/2/03 and the number was 8A07278, if that helps determine what the problem was, so that you can perhaps address this problem. Thank you!

I know they still exist because I was lucky enough to buy some on a trip to New York. If there are no stores in Massachusetts that sell them, can you tell me how I might be able to get my hands on some. I know this might sound crazy but those are my favorite snack in the whole world :-). Even if I have to buy a case, I will.

Comment: Two weeks ago, I purchased two boxes of your Drakes Funny Bones. Much to my dismay, one of the twin packages has one of the Funny Bones which appears to have a bite taken out of it. On the box shows the code 56 261 20:52. I still have the box and the package of the funny bones which I would be more than willing to send back to you if you would supply a postage paid envelope. It is not a pleasant situation when your child pulls the package out of the box and wants to eat the funny bones and you have to try to explain to a child that they are not allowed to eat this product. I am very disappointed that I have to pay $3.19 for a box with five packages and are only able to eat four.

Ibc has become a joke. this company used to be a good place to work. now its the laughing stock of the industry. management does not care about the employees at all. the company is losing money hand over fist and they are trying to force the market, by plussing product out on the the routes. all this does is generate stale. a lot of stale. hey management, get a clue you cant force consumers to buy our products. the market took a hit after sept 11th, and it hasent recovered yet.are anyother locations across the country having these problems or is the stupidy just isolated to our market? would be interested to find out.

Comment: First I would like to say that my household has enjoyed hostess products for many, many years. We generally purchase about a box a week of varying products. Last Saturday, October 11th, I purchased a box of Golden Cupcakes with a sell by date of November 7th. The marking on the box was DD279 BB. On the 12th, I found the product to be dry and stale even though the product was marked fresh for nearly three weeks. I am very disappointed in the product and find it to be unedible. This is now the third box and the third time in the past month I have found the product to be extremely sub par to the point that the product is completely unappealing. For clarification the prior two boxes were apple spice cupcakes with a similar time frame to expiration. I am now out $10.00 for product that had to be thrown out and I am worried about future purchases. All three products were purchased at the same grocery store chain. This has never happened before. Thnak you for your attention to this matter.

It was not your usual quality. date on front is 8A07288 with Nov 12 under it. My upc number is 04501408. My outside was dry and hard as well as the inside and it did not have much cream in them. We have been buying Hostess cakes for many years and have never had a problem like this. I just spoke with my daughter in law and she said the childrens ones I gave then were also the same. I just purchased them this afternoon. Have you had a problem with freshness?

Comment: Last week I purchased a loaf of Wonder Bread at Super Stop and Shop Meadowbrook store. The code was good but the bread was HORRIBLE! It was full of air, the crust was crumbling and falling off and I couldn't pick up a slice without it falling apart in my fingers. I have liked Wonder Bread in the past, but now I wouldn't buy it again if it's going to be of that same texture. In the "fresh code" area on the wrapper, the numbers to the left are: 275 G 087 and something below it seperated by a forward slash, which is illegible. Was this just a bad batch? I hope this problem can be rectified.

When I opened one of the boxes I found blood inside, like someone bled in the box and tried to wipe it. The coagulation is evident on the thicker parts of the stain. I thought someone should be notified of this immediately. The number on the side of the box is 4126125354. I will be mailing this out tomorrow to the address on the side of the box. I did not find a telephone number yet on the website, but if I do I will be calling also. I thought someone should know.

Speaking of the strike plan errrrrr no plan. Our only competition, Bimbo, has brought in people to serve any stop that the salesman can't get in. Our plan was a memo to the District Managers, make a plan for your own district. We as Teamsters have a duty not to cross the line and of course now we 're the no good bastards that won't take care of our routes. They intimidated the Division Managers to cross the picket lines and they are now in violation of the Teamster sanctioned strike as they're in the union. The word is out that they are trimming down 3 managements to 1 so all the managers are trying to one up each other and a lot of ass kissing is going on behind the scenes, meanwhile some of those no good bastards are charging us overtime now!! Imagine that, they actually expect to get paid for hours worked....no good ..... What a joke these people are!!!!!!!

Hey Cinn.,of course all the plants are the same. The old guys never gave a rats ass about the future of this Co. State-of-art for this Co. is your supervisor working with a pencil and clipboard.Outside of the main offices has anyone seen a computer in any depot or agency? While other Companys have gone through many upgrades in their computers, this Co. hasen't even started.Have you seen how old the trucks you drive are? What an embarassment! While other Companies in the same business upgrade thier working environment, this Co. stays in the stone age. These guys are either stupid or just trying to line their pockets before the ship sinks .In So. Cal we are in the middle of a labor strike in the supermarkets 7 days old and we still don't have a plan as to how we will serve the chain stores. They knew the strike was a good chance of happening and they didn't plan a damn thing. This is the IBC way-don't plan anything just wait till it happens.

Ok, so tell me, are all the plants as behind in the times as we are. I was so excited when I received the opportunity to start a new career at IBC. Now, I can't wait to get out. First off, I've never seen a company so uninterested in their employees and their concerns and inputs. Most people I work with have been with the company for years. The hard working men and women are the ones that make the company. IBC needs to start being more contienteous of its employees. Many studies have been done and its a well documented fact that when your employees are happy, they are willing to produce the work. All I've seen so far is produce, produce, produce and make more money for the greety CEOs. I don't see much of a future for IBC if changes are not made regarding their employees and Technology.

These are not the cherry ones. It was a 6 pack, dated Oct 27, and today is the 17. I didn't take them back cause we were already on the road and not coming back right away. Besides, the store would have just tosssed them or what ever, and you woujld not know the quaility. There was a number stamped on the package, 07:54 52273 Oct 27 2/$3.00, (which indicates I paid to much, didn't see that until just now) anyhow, please tell me you are not changing those wonderful cinnamon rolls? jeenjeen@aol.com

The help at this store is non existent! i am not sure who even works at this store because no one wears a name tag or work shirt and when I come in no one is around, must be on break all the time, this didn't happen at my neighborhood thrift store, seems like this store will be next, I have seen people actually leave because there was no cashier to be found! Hope they do something about this because if they close this one too I would have to drive as far as Lenexa and I won't do that.

Comment: We recently purchased a loaf of Home Pride Butter Top Wheat Bread from the store. This afternoon I began to eat a sandwich that was made with 2 slices from this loaf of bread. After a couple of bites, I came across a dark object enbedded in the bottom crust of one of the pieces. The object is elongated and about the size of a quarter. It looks and has the consistancy of leaf chewing tobacco. I have heard horror stories of what people find in their foods but this is a first for me and hopefully the last. If this is what I think it is, this is totally unacceptable and needs to be addressed by your company immediately.

Comment: I emailed recently at Planet Twinkie at twinkies.com but have received no reply. I had emailed regarding some Hostess Blueberry Mini Muffins. We bought them on a visit to Philadelphia recently from the UK, it was sometime between the 23rd and 30th September. However, when we got them home we realised the date said C62 260 NOV 01. Unfortunately, I did not discover this until I had fed some of them to my grandchildren and had eaten one myself. I have found some of the receipts of purchases made on our visit and can now narrow the search for the store selling such out of date products to either SUPER FRESH at 239 Welsh Road PA, or the nearby WALMART, or the ACME that is next door to it. I would appreciate a reply.

Comment: Why do we concern our selves with schematics when the real problem is pricing? I am not talking about snack cake, but multi paks. Isn`t the name of the game selling cake? 3.49 for a box of twinkies when our competiter is selling for 1.19. Why would we concern our selves with dropping snack to 99? That is a trivial margin compared to what we could do with lowering the price on multis. After all volume breeds profit, which means no layoffs, which in turn means success for ibc and all of its employees. Thank you, a concerned employee

i speak for my fellow employee's as well as supervision , people were alot happier and wanted to do the best job possible when Dan Hawkins was the plant Manager over Waterloo and Davenport. When Hawkins was in charge he showed us as a group that if we all worked together we would shurely be the best bakery's in the Company. He would alway's give us compliments when desirved, and would take us down when Quality was not up to par. He alway's had a company picknic in the summer and would give out shirts hats etc. He made the Davenport and Waterloo Operation feel like one! Since Dan has Left this Bakery has little self asteem due to current managment. Never a good word to say, even though i am told we still recieve some of the highest bread score's in the Division. Current Managment never comes to Waterloo and Human resource is a joke. If it wasn't for are production superintendent nothing woud get done! There is no Personnel and we are lucky if they are here once a month! As a dedicated employee and wanting to produce the best Quality possible i think more Co-Operation is needed! my fellow worker's are still commited to Quality as well as are Supervision but the Key word here is Communication.

Time to downsize? Get rid of 50% of your DM's. Get rid of 33% of your route supervisors. These are two spots this co. is top heavy. I know it's tough to do with bread, but go to a four day work week.It shouldn't hurt your volumne, but will save at least 20% on fuel costs. But hey, what do I know i'm just a little ol routeman and this stuff probably just makes too much sense. Later.

kcmo if you had to pay $2 plus for a loaf of bread andespecially if you had a big family you would gripe too. you probably pick your bread up from a thrift store rack in the warehouse or off of one of your co-workers trucks on your way out of the warehouse because i don't believe you are going to run a cash ticket on your handheld for one loaf of bread much less pay for it and ibc don't care enough about you to give you even one loaf of bread most of the time they don't even give their employees a discount on what they buy, you're still lazy.

to kcmo, before you start bitchin about profit for this co. you need to ask someone who knows how much it cost to make a loaf of bread and you will see they are still making a profit.I guess you never buy anything on special or at a reduced price, look at walmart they thrive off of reduced prices. Bread is way over priced for example look at the price difference between brand bread and private label bread, big difference huh,it's all run from the same batch of dough, the only difference is i believe the private lable is run first and if i'm not mistaken you sell your private lable to the stores cheaper than what the thrift stores sale their bread for, you're still lazy.

Thrift Stores bring in cash flow for the company. Due to the extended shelf life program for the routes the concept of a Thrift Store doesn't work with ESL. 75 to 85% of the bread they sell now is fresh. The outside purchases help with the bottom line but after paying the rent and employees, how much profit is left? I think a decision on keeping the Thrift Stores open will be included in the SOAR Program.

It is fabulous that they offer their products discounted because if I had to buy them at the store I would only be able to buy half as much because the grocery store is expensive. Most of the products I buy at the thrift store are fresh although sometimes I have to settle for almost out of date. THis is a terrific service of Wonder and Hostess. Thank you

Hey Frisco, good coments.I love my job,but these last two years have been a f..... nightmere. I've been with this company 12+ years and I don't see things getting any better. I've made a good living with this co. I'ts provided very well for my family, but enough is enough,IBC wants me to be a robot and I can't be one. The ideas and policies that the've come up with are unbelievable. They've become so anti-employee that it's time to go. There are alot of good people who work with this co. but all are getting the same attitude of not caring anymore. For their sake I hope this co. wakes up so as not to lose these good people also.

I B C still the most mismanaged company, that treat there employees like crap. The only solution if we get sold ,5million for soars, wasted money for nitwits that dont know whats happening.Gret rid of all the useless managment far to many, not needed. We keep losing all the good people who are fed up with all the bullshit.Closing plants yet doing the same crazy operations doesnt help anything.Good luck to all my fellow workers who got layed off,the top excutives in this company are criminals who belong in jail!!!!!

Comment: To the person who wrote about Thrift Stores making money, sure they make money, but they sell FRESH bread a lot which means they are selling FRESH bread at about 75 percent off grocerery stores. HMM sales but not a great profit. It used to be that thrift stores were used to sell bread that was not fresh enough for the groc. store but still safe to sell rather than use for hog feed. But now thrift stores feel they must fill their shelves and they are selling fresh bread highly discounted. Not only bread but cakes, etc. I know far too many people who go to the bread store to save money, but if the bread stores weren't around these same people would be forced to shop the stores. So I am for thriftstores closing or going back to the days, hey were a thrift store we will sell what we have and not order fresh bread, now that makes since. Just imagine how much PROFIT (not sales volume) there would be for IBC and salesman if this would happen. After all a company is in in biz to make money. I think here in KC:MO area there is only one other bread company besides IBC that has thriftstores, wonder what profits these store only bread/cake companies make, if thrifstores were so hot they would have them too. How dare that other writer on this board say that salesman were lazy and need to hit the market, it is hard to compete when someone can buy the same FRESH DATED bread at the breadstore so so much cheaper. What does lazy have to do with that. They want Wonder but why go to the store when the thrift will sell it for nothing?

Anybody read USToday article about UPS employee loyalty? Why doesn't IBC get it treat your employees with a little respect and you will reap the rewards. But IBC tries to take benifits away, reduced vacation time compared to union employees, pay structure that does not make sense, new managers that get hired start out $5000. to $10000. more because they cannot find anybody who wants to move into upper management. This causes more discontent among the managers that are currently working. IBC you just don't get it, SOAR cannot succeed without managements cooperation.

Comment: KC Star Article 10/14 ____________Interesting article and typical American approach to a problem. My wife and I have two medical conditions that keep us from eating their bread. We don't need their education about the benefits of bread. Seems to me that they might make something that we are able to eat like some private bakeries are doing. Thanks

everyone is wondering what is going to happen to this company,it's not hard to figure out just take a look at who is running your company now. From the ceo down to the route managers, how much experience have they had in the bread bussiness,a lot of them came from companies that have filed bankruptcy or failing companies, with ibc if you get promoted it's because of who you know not what you know. Most people like a soft loaf of bread,if it's soft most of the time it's fresh, well this is going to be a thing of the past with ibc because within the next 12 months shelf life for all their products will more than double and triple their already extended shelf life, and believe me you already have guality problems now, what's it going to be like trying to sell a loaf of bread 25 or 30 days old and what is the customer going to say when they buy one like that.Believe me ibc has the wrong management team running the show, they should be selling cookies, potatoe chips,or maybe shoes but not bread. If you want to keep a customer you have to earn a customer and you do that by giving him what he is paying for, a fresh loaf of bread.

to the person who asked about the wal-mart supercenters. You ever here the old saying everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die. Ibc wants to keep them but they don't care enough to make sure they are serviced properly or they would not be going up for bid,and all the blame is going to be dropped on the salesman because that is as low as it goes.

Comment: I purchased cupcakes and i haven't had a dolly madison for some time. The exp. date was Nov. 6 ...this is October 13 . Not only not very fresh tasting but I was really disappointed also in the amount of filling. Less than a tea spoon. What happened to the at least tablespoon of filling? Maybe this is just a machine glitch but the freshness wasn't.

Comment: Today (10/13/03) the wife and I were having a Twinkie after lunch and discovered that the two (2) that we were eating was molded. In checking the remainder of what was in the box of twelve (12), we found two (2) more molded. Is this a normal expiration time for this product? We have had the same experience with this product in the past. The Last Sale Date on the box was dated Oct. 11 #2329 E52259 $3.49. We had bought this box a short while back @ Wal-Mart here in town.

You chose not to respond to my letter and it has become apparent that you neither care about the safety of your product or your customers.   Comment: I am disappointed in the quality of Wonder Bread, compared to the quality I grew up with. My husband worked very hard in our yard and I wanted his lunch to be especially good. We had bought Wonder bread instead of the house brand so as to insure a better sandwich. However, when he bit into his sandwich, there was a dime size lump of hard floury material, not only in his 1st sandwich but also in the 2nd. As y ou can imagine, his enjoyment was reduced. A partial number printed on the package was Oct-17-07-269-10=13......unreadable. Maybe you need to check out your mixing equipment or quality control..

When you call me a "Ding Dong" and I replied that I was a "CupCake" you took that to mean that I was a female. Since we are using our company's product names, let me explain it this way:___You see there was a mistake, I want to be a Duck, but I was born a DRAKE, ____There I said it and I feel so much better so if you find out my real identity, please don't hurt me Mr. GM

The cure for all the company problems is to obtain new management at the highest levels. An army is only as good as its generals. This is why we are failing to win. It would be nice if the employees could elect by vote the upper management teams just like we do in our government. most would be replaced. Most employees want to do a good job and are concerned but are never heard in the system of management. K.C. thinks they know it all.

Comment: I purchased a package of Hostess Lights Low Fat cupcakes that have a funny taste and found they have mold or at least what looks like mold inside the cake. It's been a long time since I've had a good fresh tasting low fat cupcake from Hostess. I have purchased them from various stores where I live including a Hostess thrift store. The taste has changed and not for the better in my opinion. If this was a recipe change, I will just stop buying them. If not how can I know whether they are fresh or not? These were purchased before the sell by date.

Comment: ?Fruit Pie? that's funny!!! ___________________________ I have fond memories of Hostess Apple Pies. But, I believe they use to have fruit in them. I am 36 years old and while I don't eat the 480 calorie pies that often they have been getting more and more disappointing. The reason I am writing is that I am concerned about food for children in general. As I am sure these items are not marketed to adults - the fact that there were maybe 5 chucks of apple in the pie is alarming. Maybe saying it is an apple flavored pie would be more accurate. It is very sad.

To Mr. EMPLOYEE (All Caps) from Davenport, Iowa.......You Idiot, the Chocodille guy knows this is not an IBC site. Read his comments, he is posting here because his emails to IBC at their the website - www.interstatebakeriescorp.com have gone unanswered. That is the value of this site and you see the comments keep coming in with the same problem all over the country. BTW, aren't you the "Second A" from Davenport who gave that young lady from Decatur a hard time? I hope you don't start that again, that was Really confusing for the rest of us to follow.

Comment: Remember Chocodiles? The last time we saw it on the East Coast, it had a plastic see-trough wrapper. It had a chocolate, 'pimped-out" with a pink cap, mack-daddy of a crocodile staring right at ya almost saying, "Hey, baby!". (Well, to me it seemed like he was saying that!). It is ridiculous that people on the East Coast of the United States can't buy Chocodiles! I recently e-mailed Hostess at their website and asked if I can buy Hostess Chocodiles from their plant Kansas City, Missouri. A return e-mail stated that I can not buy Chocodiles from Hostess (a/k/a IBC) because "it will jeopardize its freshness". So, on my trip, I flew on by Kansas City, MO and headed straight to Las Vegas, Nevada. I went to a 7-11 on Flamingo and bought 8 boxes of Chocodiles at retail price at $0.49 each. I flew back via Continental Airlines. To my correct guess-timate, the Chocodiles were fresh! Not like the e-mail stated that would happen! Hmmm. ____________________________________ 8/13/03: We are awaiting a response from IBC, the makers of Hostess Chocodiles, as to why they refuse to supply the consumers of The East Coast that great product! ____________________________________ 8/25/03: About a dozen emails have been sent to IBC and still no response from IBC, the makers of Hostess Chocodiles. It is through message boards that raise the concern that IBC is getting a little "shoddy" with its baking practices. We do not hold the messages to be true. Although, the outcry of the public has been a lot less than fresh goods! We will open up a Chocodile message board sometime today. Please voice your concerns here. And maybe one day, just one day, IBC will realize that "The People" want their Chocodiles! ______________________________________ 10/08/03: IBC told me via e-mail that they can not send it to me because that it will not be fresh. I say BS! I have Chocodiles from my trip in the summer. They are still fresh! They are in the fridge with a nice chiiled chocolate crunch to it! Mmmmmmmmm! He knows me because I worked with him at the Hostess bakery in LA a number of years ago but he did not know who he was corresponding with on the email. He said his web designer is redoing the site now and he has a chat feature as part of the new format. They are looking for nutritional charts from IBC but have been unable to obtain any, that's what holding up the design. He said because so many employees have requested the chat room that they may put one on the site on the 15th of the month anyway and continue with the rest of the design.

Comment: I have a complaint regarding a loaf of bread that I purchased on 10/3/03 at our local Walmart Store. I was making my husbands lunch today, in the middle of the loaf of bread is some mystery substance that has been baked into the bread. This is in 4 slices. I recently lost my job and my husband is employed at a minimum wage job. We really can't afford to have things like this happen as our resources are limited. This is the only bread that my husband will eat. He's too old to change now, can you please start taking more care of your production.

Millbrook,Wonder,Hostess, 3 sets of management, 3 groups of contact people. Maybe start there since you only need 1 set of everything for all 3!!! Can you imagine the MBrook contact man telling the Albertsons we have Pillsbury on Promo, then he leaves and the Wonder Rep walks in and says we have Homepride on promo, then Hostess gives him a high 5 on his way out and he goes in and says we have Box cupcakes on promo. Then all 3 meet for breakfast, driving their 3 company cars. One example of too much management. To the manager who left the union, its common knowledge that the IBC bene package is not even close to the unions. The illusion of a promotion overshadows the negatives and all of a sudden this guy realizes he's working 60 hrs a week, small raise, after you pay for medical, 401,and all the BS that comes with it ...your trapped. That's why most of your Division Managers have 6 yrs or less because most of the seasoned and senior managers went back on routes , tired of not getting paid for the extra hours, and you can make more money on a route and work 15 less hours. Like A said earlier, there's no incentive to either become a Division Manager or stay one.

Comment: To whom it may concern: I have been enjoying the Apple Fruit Pies for some years - ever since high school when the 50 cents was well worth the wonderful treat. I haven't had them in some time, and happened to come across a stand today in my local supermarket. I purchased 4 of them, one for each member of the family. Early in the day, two were enjoyed by other members of my family just fine. Tonight, just a few moments ago, I opened a third one up to enjoy with some coffee only to discover that my pie was completely devoid of icing. Now, I didn't see the pies being eaten earlier, so I was now curious as to whether or not the pies just stopped being made with frosting. I opened the last of the pies to discover a most wonderfully iced apple pie. I am afraid to imagine how many of these pies I have enjoyed over the years, and to find one without icing was quite a shock. So, being the sport that I was, I 'took one for team' and ate the neglected pie and passed the other pie on. Whilst doing so, the two other people in the house who had earlier partaken in eating a pie came into the kitchen. The first words out of their mouthes were, "How did you get that icing on your pie?" So, it would seem to me, that 3 out of 4 pies coming out of the same box were all without icing. I thought I should point this out to you in hopes that this horrific tragedy will never again befall my family.

To his dismay the pie had lots of small dark spots in a random pattern all over the top and a large spot on the bottom. Hopefully our SOAR team will look at the unfair pay and benefit packages between the company nonunion employees? We want to promote from within, we try to select the best canidate for the job, but have to settle more often than not for the least experienced due to pay lower than our union counterpart. Benefit package that we must pay for, lowering our pay even more. My union employees can work their 20 to 25 years and retire, company employees must work until age 60 to receive any type of medical benefits. Unless you contribute to 401-k plan theres no way you will be able to retire even after 30 to 40 years of service. SOAR should realize that if they want to carry out this latest plan to have managers and supervisors promote working as ONE to get the company back on track, maybe if they would give this some consideration then project SOAR would truly SOAR and We would work as ONE. Until then its going to be a very slow pace to get to ONE.

Comment: I was going to comment about a box of twinkies I bought recently, but after reading all the complaints here, I do not think it will do any good. It seems to me, upper managements of IBC need to get their heads out of their a$$ and pay more attention to the complaints of unhappy consumers and their employees. Second A, you are a riot. It is good that you are taking the initiative (going to night school) to better yourself and to maybe find a company that will appreciate their employees, unlike IBC. After reading all the comments at this site, it really made me appreciate my job and the company I work for, a hell of a lot more. I wish all you hard working employees of IBC the best of luck.

The Board of IBC should be ashamed of its self. Every since IBC and CBC merged the lower ranks of managers and supervisors have talked about how IBC and CBC do not work as ONE company. Now they get the bright idea to reorganize and lets try to work as ONE company. Why did it take so long for our upper brain trust to figure out the obvious. Its a shame our company has to hire people from outside our organization to tell us what we already knew. Just maybe someone in Kansas City will read this and realize the answers were out there, if they would only open up and listen to the talented managers and supervisor they already employ. Hopefully this won't be too little too late.

To the first A---Okay Okay, I fibbed- I had to look one more time at your pathetic response. I would like to comment on one thing, What makes you such a knowledgable person on managerial skills--have you ever managed even one person? I doubt it. As for confronting the GM with your feelings--Dah he cannot fire you fit, (I just spelled your name backwords because I know who you are, the nightschool comment gave you away fit---anyways the GM cannot fire you for something like that there are too many laws to protect you and furthermore, maybe you should talk to him, you might find that he is a very compassionate man and would believe it or not value your opinion. And you are welcome for all the advice. I truly hope you get all that you are seeking. Have a good week----and ps I am not the GM, but I know you don't believe me. BUT----I do know who you are ynaffit.

I can't speak for the rest of the other plants in the company but I can speak for this area. I've worked 20+ years for IBC/CBC and I have yet to see anyone promoted by merit alone.I've seen time and time again people promoted without so much as a little bit of experience. When you look at the senority list ,at the bottom of years with the company all you see is your bosses. These are the people who are supposed to lead the company in the future. They have no experience, so how are they expected to come up with any ideas? That's one of the reasons why we are in this predicament. Unbelievable!

To the first A from Davenport----You are the GM and I will not confront you because I'm truly afraid you will fire me. I am not truly unhappy with my job, I am unhappy with you and your lack of managerial skills. . * I truly hope that all of the people who have consumer complaints realized if they want to file a complaint that this is not the way to do it. Contact one of the bakeries, and if they all can get to this site then they can all look on the left side where it says baker locations. HAVE A NICE DAY----IGNORANT ONE!!!* Looking at this site I believe the owners intended for the visitors to have all the information available for them, that is why the bakery locations are listed. However, if they do not get sastifaction then they can come here and complain. WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!! And you are correct, I am the ignorant one but with continued therapy and the night school classes I am attending, I hope to one day rise above my present state and contribute something to society. Thank you for again pointing out one of my traits as this too will motivate me to do better. You are truly becaoming a very big part of my life with your insight. THANK YOU SO MUCH! and please if you find time in the future drop me another post listing some of my other traits you think I can seek help for in the future.

Comment: I have enjoyed Wonder Bread Italian Light for many years, but, must tell you how disappointed I have been the last week. I purchased one loaf last week and in two days it was moldy. Yesterday, I purchased another and paid special attention to the date, this is what is stamped on the loaf: OCT08 46270 1004 #5 0827 Since yesterday was October 4th, I thought I was getting a fresh loaf of bread, today the 5th, I went to make some sandwiches and the loaf is moldy. We are seniors on a fixed income, this bread cost more than the other brands and we just can't afford to be getting moldy bread. Now after this 2nd bad experience, looks like I will not chance buying Wonder Bread.

This web site clearly states that it is not affiliated with Interstate Brrands. I would think if you contacted the company then maybe ya'll would get your money back or some compromise. It appears this is a web site used for bashing. How senseless is that?

I loved those when I was little, I practically lived on them, eventhough I am only fourteen years old, I will never forget those mini muffins!! For kids these days having time to actually sit down and eat a regular breakfast, just isn't realistic, things you can "GRAB 'N GO" are great. I'm not surte what it is, but the world has this fascination with "mini" things. Numerous companies make tons of money by just making a smaller version of their product. I have no doubt that if you brought back the Mini Muffins, they would sell like crazy!! It never hurts to try , I think it would be a great success! Thank you for your time!!

To the 1st A from Davenport: Oooooh, you the General Manager, are really coming unglued. First, I'm not a Ding Dong, I'm a CupCake Honey!!! I know that's you because I recognize in your posts the bad grammer and mis-spelled words you are so famous for using all the time. But what really gives your identity away is the question you posted in your last comment: *How can it be the GM's fault when it is only the workers on the line?* THAT WAS THE CLINCHER BECAUSE THAT IS EXACTLY HOW YOU TALK AND THINK! But let me give you a little Business 101: The GM is ultimately responsible for the entire bakery and all of its successses and failures. It is his job to ensure that all processes are in place to produce a quality product, if the GM can not do this than he will be FIRED. So--don't tell me to *go eat a ding dong--you ding dong* I'm going to have a CupCake and you....you Short-Timer...you start looking for another job because your days are numbered. And the nerve of you trying to bolster your reputation by pretending to be an advocate for you when if fact everyone knows you are posting these *Glowing* comments about yourself. P.S. You see me everyday, I'm the one who forces a smile when you walk by, in the future look real close at everyone...you will see those smiles you get are not real.

Comment: I purchased a raspberry zinger package today and didn't bother looking in the package because I figured it should be ok. I bit into one of the cakes and it tasted like masking tape. low and behold the little white insert INSIDE the package was taped all the way around with a piece of bright red tape. Wonder how the heck that got in there. I am NOT a happy camper since I am allergic to the masking tape glue (I break out in hives). You can imagine what could have happened if I continued to eat the stupid cake. Luckily I only had a mild reaction to it. Sigh. And I loved those too.

It's not about being in his corner. I and a lot of other employees believe very much in his work ethics. As for the remarks about things being in products---Da! It is not the bakery's fault that employees don't follow safety. How can it be the GM's fault when it is only the workers on the line? Maybe you should take a long look at yourself and realize facts. There are a lot of people at that bakery that works very hard and there are a lot that are not. Everyone should be thankful they still have a job and with a company that is good. When we opened our respective sacks, my wife noticed that her powder sugar gems count in the bag were far less than my chocolate covered ones. I thought you might want to check this out to see if there was a particular problem at whatever plant these came from. The only numbers I could find that might help are as follows: 08:49D52266 dated Oct 15. The UPC code on the bottom of the package is: 0 4130080942 9. I would also like to add, that my wife and I enjoy your product very much. Hope this helps you out.

First of all, I am amazed at all of the whining that goes on in this site. Consumer complaints, I can understand, however, there will always be something with everything. When a company produces thousands of products there is bound to be a few imperfections. As for the employees, be grateful you have a job!!! IBC is one of the very few companies that will pay for the health cost, and when an employee does have to pay because they are non-union it is a very little amount compared to what a lot of companies make thier employees pay. I feel that IBC is a wonderful place to work. As for the negative comments on this site in regards to the plant manager at this bakery, it is ludicrist. PERFORMANCE IS REQUIRED!!!!!!! He is a wonderful man and is a great GENERAL MANAGER. SHAME ON YOU for saying otherwise. Maybe if people would do thier job and what is expected of you then you will find that your days will go a lot easier. If you don't like your job, QUIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello everyone, I believe there is a great level of curiousity and worry over IBC employee security after the statement published that they were going to shut down five bakeries. The local news shot a picture of the Davenport bakery while they were airing the piece and that shocked alot of our fellow workers. Rumors run abound in this industry...is this because we are in a state of limbo? Everyone is entitled to embrace the cold facts and nothing more, never worry about something you can not do anything about. It is the basic fact of life that things change and we have to grow with the thought that we can always help and improve ourselves if we choose to do so. Well, enough of that. I hope that whatever the outcome because of the IBC corperate decisions, that we were all prepared for change because even if you survive the closings of the 5 bakeries there is potential that you might not survive the postive corperate changes the company will be implementing to restructure their profit and control base. No single person in todays work force is secure. Union dues don't stop a plant from closing, they just give you a common number in the unemployment line that the officials there understand because you were not the first in line. We all need to continue to do what is expected from us by contract and not ruin our health over rumors. Talk here is Engineering downtime is our biggest issue to deal with...CLEAN-UP.

Interstate Bakeries to close bakery, cut 160 jobs October 02, 2003 4:44:00 PM ET CHICAGO, Oct 2 (Reuters) - Interstate Bakeries Corp.. (IBC) on Thursday said it would shutter a Michigan bread and roll bakery, one of several expected closings, and lay off about 160 workers. The closing of the plant, based in Grand Rapids, is scheduled for Dec. 3, Interstate Bakeries said in a statement after the close of trading. Production at the plant, which makes products under the Wonder, Butternut and Home Pride brands, will be transferred to the companies' facilities in Columbus, Defiance and Northwood, Ohio; Indianapolis, Ind.; and Hodgkins, Ill. The company said on Sept. 19 that it planned to close several plants and cut an unspecified number of jobs as it battles rising labor expenses that have cut into profits. REUTERS

Comment: Thankyou IBC for this comments site. Advice to Sales: Premium product will be purchased at the premium price without incentive. In order sales be drived, I would suggest NOT sales pricing premium product. Reduce bake volume and maintain pricing on premium product.
