Dear IBC:
I went and visited the Pittsfield , Massachusetts thrift store on Friday and it is disgracefull on how it is presented outside and inside by debree craking on the inside beams in the building, and the outside is just a mess with as it looked like wires running across the truck from a car I dont know what that is all about. I think the philosphy of IBC is going down the drain fast. Even though the company is planning to soon phase out thrift stores just continue show that you care about the perfomance I think the general manager of Biddeford, ME and the manager of that pitticular thrift store should take a look at the situation. |

We have a vending company who keeps up on the stock of our candy and "pastries" in the vending machine. I have asked them numerous times to remove the little chocolate Hostess "donettes" which haven't been purchased throughout the week they have been setting in the machine. They are very dry, tough, and almost to the stale stage. The expiration date still shows ok for the next week, but I feel it's a waste of money to purchase the product.
Please shorten the expiration dates on the aforementioned donettes, as vendors swear by that date, and will not sell the newer ones as a result.

Comment: as you can see managment from the top to the bottom does not know what they are doing, they are out there because it's not what not what you know but who you blow.If you stop and look at the managment most of them came from another company and most of these companies are loosing companies but if u apply for a managment position with this co. you will likely get it. Most good route salesmen will not take a managment position, most of the route salesmen who do take a position have only been with the companyfor 1 to 3 years, there is no qualafications to being a route managerand when they get in this position they spend more time in the thrift stores trying to make time with the women working in there and they don't even take care of there routes not even if they need help,i know i worked there almost 30 years. Also that hotline they have isn't worth a crap, it was used to inform the co. of an employ who was getting roughly 600 to 1,000 dollars a month in his own pocket complimants of merita, i have kept my eyes and ears open and it has been more than 6 months and nothing has been said or done about it ,oh i forgot to tell you but the hotline knows his name and the name of the stop where it was happening and also he is the depot manager. |

I recently purchased a Hostess Apple Pie w/ fruit filling.
at a rural convenience store along a major New York State highway. I ate the pie as I was driving and was disgusted at the taste of the pie as it was almost completely dry, devoid of most of the filling inside. The crust had its patented taste, but I was disappointed in the experience.

I have purchased Hostess Apple Fruit Pies for years as a snack. I purchased one yesterday that had been caught in the packaging machine and about a third of the pie chopped off. I spent thirty years in the food industry and realize these things happen but I can not imagine how the operator did not realize a problem existed and even more how the pie got past the weight check equipment. This was not a one off because I purchased the next pie in the vending machine out of curiousity and it was the same way with about a quarter of the pie missing. I notified the vending company so that they could do something about the balance of the pies in the machine. This is the first problem I have had with these pies in many years but it sounds like a serious quality control problem exists at present. |

I shop often at your thrift store in Southaven, Ms.(store #145) On March 3rd, 2003, I purchased Iced Honey Buns at 33 cents a piece. The sign posted stated 33 cents or 3 for a dollar. My math skills tell me you are penny gouging your customers. This is a thrift store isnt it? It's not the penny at issue here it's the principle. If this is how you continue to business I will shop elsewhere as will my family and friends. Don't underestimate the power of communication when it comes to bad business practices being exposed. |

For years my family and myself have been enjoying Hostess products.
But on 3/11/03 I purchased an assorted box of donuts from our local
Mejier store and brought it home, only to open it to HARD, almost stale
donuts.
The date and code numbers on the box are as follows : MAR 14 51A057.
My wife told me that the last time she purchased the same kind of box
of donuts (aprox. 2 weeks ago) that they were not as fresh as they should
have been either. Although that box was not quite as bad as this one.

I recently purchased a box of old fashioned doughnuts from a local convenience mart. In the box was a forty cents off coupon for the next purchase. When I tried to redeem that coupon the next day I was told that this store does not honor those coupons. What?
They told me I had to go to a Safeway or big name store to use this coupon.
I feel that if the store is selling their product they should honor whatever coupons, sale promos, etc. that may be included in whatever product they are selling.
I know, it's only forty cents.
My question to you is: "Can they require them to honor these coupons? If not then why do they sell their product to them?"
I think it is a case of false advertisement on both IBC and the store.

I am writing about a loaf of wonder Italian bread that I purchased this week.
When my son came home from school, He told me his sandwich was yucky because
it had black things in the bread. The first thing I thought of was bugs. I
was just going to make them grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner and that was
the only loaf of bread I had in the house. I took the bread out and there
were black things in every slice. When I took a few out I noticed they were
seeds from rye bread. They were the whole loaf. I had to pick as many out of
the slices I used for their sandwiches. I do not like those seeds either I
always buy seedless rye also. Just like seedless Italian bread. Who would
ever think of having caraway seeds in the Italian bread. |

Comment: Why to you continue to place ineffective people in positions of District Managers? Someone, who really cares about your company, should look very carefully into the Portland area and replace many of your "so-called" key people. You have a certain "top official" who is married, who is possibly dating a married DM. Everyone knows but can do nothing about the situation. Recently you terminated one "tyrant" and now you have replaced him with another. Someone needs to put the company "first" and get rid of the "losers."

Comment: I was just terminated after almost six years at wonderbear over less than 60 seconds.
Iwas supposed to be at work at 1pm and since i had just changed departments forgot to punch in on the new clock, when i realized i forgot i punched in.The clock read 103pm.103 is the cut-off for tardiness.so i was deemed tardy and termed. The funny part was that my only witness(the person i relieve )was a foremans wife i had filed a major complaint against prior-and she provided false statements saying i wasnt there. Its kind of strange too, because i was the secretary for my local, and one hour after i was escorted out,our local chairperson became a foreman-that would later become the same person whom i was stuck with represnting me for the union to save my job.Is that fair or what?talk about not playing fair--so i am here to spill my guts...
1st off my production manager has had sex with an employee in the plant and been caught
2nd-when mixer refrigeration goes down they ship in ice and transfer it into the building to the mixers in the same dirty dumpsters they put the pig feed in,and or regular trash--very sanitary dont you think
3rd-employees are made to work18-19-or20 hour shifts at times with no reguard to safety, and no option to leave
4th-i have watched foreman accidently drop 700-800 lbs of dough on the floor, scrape it up,run it through and send it out.
5th-i as an operator had been forced to run dough with plastic pieces in it whether it be from trough wheels or pump seals,scrapers,etc.. and send it out
and last but most definatly not least no one wears gloves when handling product, unless inspectors are there for the day,the ingredients are never covered, unless inspectors are there for the day,and many other things, basically they make you lie...i never let my family eat wonderbread while i worked there and definately not now,its pretty sickening if you actually think about everything i have just said i have watched people pass out from poor ventilation, and bad working conditions only to get charged with an abscence afterwards even if they had already been there12-13 hours.I submit that everything i have said is truthful and i am signing my name to this because i aint scared of the wonder and i know what i am saying is the truth.........does this sound like good production standards or a great place to work to you?I just cant beleive i wasted the last six years there. But i am thankful i am gone life is a lot better now--good-bye wonder you'll be hearing from me soon......ps-i hired a lawyer. |

We love Hostess Raspberry filled donuts aka/ hostess O's. In Kansas we can not get them. We have them sent in from California...sure their a little on the stale side when we get them, but if you dunk them in milk they taste just as good as I remember them. I want to be able to buy them online. They are manufactured in Kansas City Missouri, which is only 2 hours from us, but yet, we can't purchase them around here. Whats up with that? I'd really like someone to respond to this and let us know where we can purchase these wonderful donuts. Thanks!!! |

As a regular consumer trying to make a comment on a $0.75 apple pie, I got a $1.00 worth of surprise and disappointment to see the things written on this web site. Whether the claims are true or not...it doesn't matter. To air this kind of laundry for a consumer like me to see shows a disregard for good judgement. If I were a shareholder, I would have grave concerns about the management team. I would seriously question the foresight of the information technology team for allocating their resources to design and support a forum like this that the general public can see. Your products are supposed to be fun...what a disappointment. |

Comment: A truly educational experience working at the new Lakewood facility. It seems that favoritism and politics rule this plant. A weak management that overlooks harrassment, discrimination, intimidation and verbal abuse. Manditory overtime that wears the body and spirit out. Alot of super people with some real losers causing trouble that management just refuses to notice. A well educated crew that fights to be advanced to a more appropriate position. A real waste of human resources, very weak leadership and lack of good communication. A very antiquated system of governance. It could be a pleasant place to work if people were put first over profits and " the way bakerys have always been". |

Comment: They recently had us do a survey on how we feel about IBC.Honestly, I don't like it, in fact it's the worst place I have ever worked! It wouldn't be bad if the managers had proper training. They lack the knowledge and skills necessary to run the place, and are so quick to blame their employees when there are errors. They blame past managers and talk about them behind their backs. I have even heard management talking about her dislike for one of my coworkers which was very unprofessional. They know nothing of constructive criticism, praise, thank you, hello, etc. Too quick to point out faults instead of giving recognition for a job well done. |

Ademi & O'Reilly, LLP is investigating allegations of possible violations of securities laws by Interstate Bakeries Corporation, during the period September 17, 2002 to December 16, 2002.
Specifically, Interstate?s statements and representations were materially false and misleading when made as they misrepresented and/or omitted one or more of the following adverse facts which then existed and disclosure of which was necessary to make the statements not false and/or misleading, including, but not limited to:
(a) During the second week of September 2002, for the first time, Interstate?s internal financial and operational data showed a ?negative variance? as to sales volumes and operations for Interstate?s cake business and its Southeast business as compared to the prior year;
(b) Interstate?s Southeast management team had implemented or would implement shortly after September 17, 2002, dramatic 9% price increases for, but not limited to, cake and bread products;
(c) Interstate?s Southeast operations were experiencing dramatic quality control problems with respect to several products, including, but not limited to, cake and bread products;
(d) Interstate lacked adequate financial and operational controls and systems such that Interstate?s Southeast operations was undertaking pricing and operational decisions that were either inconsistent with or not controlled by Interstate?s senior management; and
(e) As a result of the foregoing, Interstate lacked a reasonable basis to project fiscal 2003 earnings of $1.90 to $1.95 per share or sustain consensus earnings projections for 2Q Fiscal 2003 earnings of $0.49 per share.
During the Class Period, insiders sold or otherwise disposed of tens of thousands of shares at inflated prices, receiving millions of dollars of proceeds.
Purchasers of Interstate stock for the period September 17, 2002 to December 16, 2002 are urged to contact Ademi & O'Reilly to discuss their legal rights and review our Draft Complaint.
You may e-mail us at gademi@ademilaw.com or call toll-free (866) 264-3995.

i am writing in regards to a box of Hostess cup cakes i bought about a week ago--
After opening the box, I noticed there were only 6 cupcakes inside of the box, as opposed to the 8 that the box promised..
this has never happened to me before, and was wondering what could have caused this---i tried to take the box back to the store, and was told that I could not return them because it was already opened, and they thought i took 2 of them out, which was NOT the case..

For the last three times we have purchased Buttermilk Bread de Jour rolls, even tho we have put them in the refrigerator, they have big spots of blue mold on them. The dates on these packages have been at least 2 weeks ahead of the time of purchase. This is getting very frustrating, especially when you have company.
We would greatly appreciate help in this matter. The first package was bought at Safeway on Jackson, CA, the other two have been purchased in Buckhorn, CA.. We live in the mountains and it is difficult to drive 40 minutes to return them to the store.

I purchased a loaf of Beefsteak Hearty Rye Bread at the Giant Food Store
in Royersford, Pa on 2/27/03. The quality was horrible. The bottom of the
loaf appeared dense and uncooked. The upper part of the loaf was dry and
falls apart. It also had a much more sour taste than normal. It had the
following numbers 63 w 051 17:09 on label. I enjoy rye bread but this was the
worst. |

I wish they would go back to the low fat chocolate filled cupcakes. I ate one every day with my frozen yoghurt ice cream/chocolate syrup!! It was hard to believe it was low fat since it was so flavourful! I notice at my grocery store (Bi Lo) a much smaller display of their products!
Their low fat twinkies were also very good, but I was truly addicted to the cupcakes!! I hope they will start baking them again!!

Comment: What a joke! This site does not represent any forum except to mislead the public, and provide a handfull of disgruntled workers a place to vent. Anybody with product concerns can contact IBC headquarters in Kansas City, those needing to vent let upper management know, and be persistent if you feel neglected. Dont waste time here the person(s) running this site have no tools to help resolve any issues you may have. |

Comment: The depot up here is ran like a soap opera. Thrift store operator, Cordelia Lunsford, has an ongoing affair with the depot manager, Roger George as well as the area manager, Ray Carter. In which phone records to the Morristown Tn depot where Mr Carter stays as well as knoxville to the thrift store should be plenty. Certain drivers have the trucks loaded by the load seperators on company time. As well as the ability to adjust off whatever product they dont want to take with no reprocutions. Those chosen few favorites are allowed to leave out of code product, take extra to swap out for stale and on and on. I dont expect anything to come of any complaints since the depot manager is in tight with the soon to be new plant manager. There has yet to be any type of so called suprise inspection of the depot. The depot manager gets the call from the sales manager and the thrift store operator gets a call from the area manager. Plenty of time to clean up the messes, warn there favorite drivers that management is coming and have the routes looking good. Mr George has been made aware of the situation with drivers taking extra product out on numerous occasions but turns his head to it. Will not let subordinate supervisors follow up nor write drivers up for breaking rules since it is his chosen favorites doing the dirty stuff. I could go on and on as there are enough situations in that place to write a book on. Making anyone aware of any of this under region level will be useless as all top members in the Bakery are involved. |

I recently purchased a Dolly Madison product that was totally disgusting! Then i looked at the packaging and it does not contain any customer satisfaction info or phone#!
The product is the Dolly Madison "Mini Crullers" in the 11.25OZ bag product code MINIGLZCR11.25 .
The taste of this product was downright offensive. So full of sugars and chemicals it almost made me sick on the first bite.
Dont you people test these products? I think you need some new QA people.

I bought a box, of powered donettes, at a store, in Manassas, VA, for my co-workers. When I got to work and ate one it was extremely stale. My co-workers seem to agree with me. I was humiliated in front of my co-workers. I threw the whole box away. Then I had to go and buy more donuts from Dunkin Donuts, which were much better. From now on I will just buy my donuts there. The sell by date on the package was March 3. The UPC code is 045000006201. |
