Comment: There is a new true story movie about these two guys who are trying to run a bakery in Phila for IBC. It opens very soon in very small movie houses since they don't belive in getting anything more then 2 feet, sorry I mean more then 30 people.
So the new movie is titled Dumb and Dumber Part 2 staring in the roles about themselves.
At the end of the movie you can log onto the web site www.noclue.com and let them know who you think is the dumb one and who is dumber
The stars of the movie are Fisher and Sweeney

The individually-wrapped effect may be drying them. Or, am I confusing your product "Cup Cakes" with a competitor that is more moist?
If not, please correct the moisture or packaging. They're dry.
Where bought: a new Safeway on Dublin Blvd, Dublin CA, near I-680; there's only one.
I mean, yuck, what the spank did some marketing weasel and packaging chipmunk think?

Comment: I appreciate the new policies about being politically correct and having a more friendly and professional work place. I would like to add that we were informed that our building was non smoking. This is a great idea as myself and most others here do not smoke and find it repulsive. One of our employees brought that up at a safety meeting and went through hell for about 2 weeks. So i'm going to express myself anonymously so I don't have to go through this abuse. Our building only remained non smoking about 2 days. Now the thrift store, sales manager, and even John Ananocci smoke in our building. What a policy! Also why is IBC being discriminating by not letting employees wear shorts and grow beards? Other divisions of the company are allowed to wear shorts . Fred
Shein even came to our depot wearing a beard. This is discriminatory. Thank you for letting me get this off my chest. |

To Whom it May Concern,
I recently bought a box of Drake's Funny Bones. I have to say I am very
upset with the poor quality of this product. The box I bought was stored as
stated on the box at room temperature but to my dismay the funny bone's were
moldy and rancid two days past there USE BY DATE. I usually would have probably
just thrown out the spoiled food but the extent of the spoilage was very
severe. I have worked as a food scientist in the beverage industry for 8 years
and know this is UNACCEPTABLE. I understand the use by date is there for a
reason but for the product to be so SPOILED two days past is very concerning. I
hope this was a rare occurence because this is a serious quality issue .
For your information the Lot # on the box is 56150 and use by date 6/18/03.

Comment:
I'm not even sure if this is the correct site to tell my story to but here goes anyway.
I'm a recent Florida resident, originally from Massachusetts. Well, I had to make a trip up to Mass last week and before I went, I asked someone in my office if there was anything I could bring back to him. See, Florida doesn't have some of the good stuff we may have in Mass. Anyway, he shouts out, "funny bones," my wife loves them and they don't have them in Florida. So everyone in the office was asking, "What is a funny bone." Well, the day before I left I went to a grocery store and bought four boxes, enough to go around for everyone to try and one box just for my co-worker and his wife. It turned out to be a huge disappointment and an embarrassment on me. Unfortunately I do not have a receipt nor do I still have all the boxes otherwise I may have sent them back up to my Mom to go back to the store. The "sell by" date was June 27, 03. They never should've spoiled a day or two after I bought them which was June 18, 03. They were stale and moldy on some. I suspect the whole batch that the store got was like this. They all had the same date. No others on the shelf had a later date.
Well, I just thought I'd share my latest experience with Drake's. I apologize if I sent this to the wrong person. If I did, maybe you could direct it to the appropriate person.
Thanks and maybe someday Funny Bones will make their way further south and my office will give them another try. Unfortunately their first experience was not a good one. They may never believe me again when I want to introduce them to something they've never experienced.
Thanks,
|

Comment: Schiller Park told Dolly they could no longer order their cupcakes and carry Hostess cupcakes on their routes. This is happening in Indiana, and a couple of Dolly routes in the Chicago area! Talk about mixing things up. Who's to say that the Dolly driver isn't putting these cups on the Hostess racks, making the money, and the Hostess driver losing the money when their stale goes up? If it is for a vendor, then why isn't Hostess delivering to that vendor? I thought the goal was to have both companies in as many stops together as possible. At least that applies when Hostess has been exclusive in a stop. Why not the other way around? Does the Hostess driver who delivers in the same area as these Dolly routes get paid commission for this product also? According to some union contracts, the respective route, Hostess/Dolly, should be paid commission on any Hostess/Dolly product delivered and sold in that route area, no matter who delivered it. ie. the Hostess driver for the area should be paid commission on these 2pk cubcakes, even though a Dolly driver is delivering them!
Does this mean that Hostess should start ordering zingers, or other product that is exclusive to Dolly?

I purchased a package of Zingers from our vending
machine here a work. I opened the package, ate the first one, reached for
the second one and for some unknown reason turned it over. Well, to my
dismay, a moth was stuck to the bottom of the Zinger and its end-trails
stuck to the cardboard. I just about threw up!!! I could not believe what
I had just eaten!! Did the first one also have foreign material attached to
it?? The more I thought about it, the sicker I felt. Every time I think
about seeing that moth, I want to puke! This is the most revolting thing I
have every seen!
Other individuals here at work also seen this disgusting package of

Whatta mean the bread and cake are frozen? I dont see anything on these packages about this product "PREVIOUSLY FROZEN". isn't that against the law? They have to label the meat that way. IBC may not have to worry about losing consumers because of quality, their biggest concern may be paying fines for mislabeling their products. |

Comment: There is no water being added to the bread. It is being frozen and then being sent to stores to thaw in the store. The condensation then forms and mold appears. This is happening on the bread and pastry. I hope the company is reading this board, because this is why we are losing sales. The product is terrible lately and we are losing loyal customers. Go back to quality production and sales will go back up. |

We have been buying Home Pride butter-top wheat bread and enjoying it for many years. Lateley the bakery has added so much additional water to this dough that the product has suffered considerably. It is wet and limp when you buy it. It cannot be handled when using it. It does not toast properly. It mildews almost immediately and must be stored in the fridge, which is certainly improper.
I realize that bread is sold by weight and water weighs. But at $2.19 a loaf, we have the right to expect a quality product------which we are not getting.
Please have this problem rectified immediately as customer loss will weigh more heavily than the excess water you have been adding.

Hello,
I've enjoyed Merita Bread since I was a child. I bought it as a student in collage, and now as a married woman. However my only complaint is that there is too much to eat for 1 or 2 people.
We use bread on a regular basis, yet 1/3 to 1/2 the bread goes stale before we can eat it. I had this as a problem when I lived on my own too. I'm sure there are also elderyly that have this as an issue too.
My mother suggested freezing half a loaf, and then thawing it when I need it, but it's just not the same.
I'm suggesting you sell 1/2 loafs. Currently I pay about $1.50 for a full loaf. I'd be willing to pay up to $1.00 for a 1/2 loaf, just knowing I'd use it all and not waste it.
Thank you,
Tammie Helmick

I purchased 20 boxes of Zingers for a party. Please don't laugh. My girl was turning 10 and no one wood make me a big cake that looks like a ZINGER they said it was against the law to copy someone elses product. So I purchased them and made one myself. It looked great but they were not fresh they were actually verry stale. They tasted horrible. I didn't let any one else eat them they were so bad. I purchased them from a store in my home town and don't know why ther were so bad. I asked my store to order them for me so that i could do this for my party. I sure regreted it. |

I grew up in the Midwest and I remember Hostess made a cake, looked like a Hostess Cupcake, but elongated and a slightly different chocolate taste, but I remember I loved them. Do you remember what they were called and do they still make them, and if so, where can I get them?

On June 17th, I purchased a box of Ding Dongs at WalMart. The box code is "FM JUN 28 701622". The Ding Dongs are stale. The cake is dry. (the price on the package is $4.29). I usually enjoy Hostess products, and do not know if this is a case of the shipper or seller storing or transporting them improperly, or if you need to adjust your sell by dates.

I have always been a loyal customer of Hostess for their Hostess fruit pies and muffins. But I have run into a very disappointing batch of bad pies.
We really depend on our vending machines at our location.
Well there was a row added with goodies this week! Every other item in that row was a Hostess Chocolate Cupcake then a Hostess Cherry Pie. I bought all of the cherry pies, one a day, including the Cupcakes. After the 4th, I was convinced something was wrong. Only 1 cherry in each pie with just a thin spead of cherry filling. Not even enough filling to scrape with my finger! Most of the inner crust had not been touched with cherry filling. I had never seen anything like it before. I could understand 1 or 2 of them being that way but not all 4 of them.
I love the cherry pies and my daughter loves the chocolate chip muffins. I am very disappointed in Hostess. Today is June 18 and the date on them said June 20. Could they have been dried out or just a bad batch?

I am writing in regards to Ho Ho's that I usually purchase from a
vending machine here at work on the Little Creek U. S. Naval Amphibious Base
in Virginia Beach, Va. I usually buy a pack of Ho Ho's a couple times a
week for a snack to hold me over. In the last 4 or 5 months, I have noticed
(as well as my co-workers) that there have only been 2 cakes in the package
instead of 3. This has happended to me at least 4 or 5 times. I don't feel
it fair to pay $.65 for a product that should be representative of a full
package.

I bought a box of Bakery Fresh donuts this morning at our local Target store but they were far from bakery fresh. In fact, they were all stuck together and hard as a rock. My daughter would not even eat them. I just thought I should let you know. I looked at the date, which you could barely read and I beleive it said June 15. Well today is the 17 so maybe they are not doing ther job by not selling product after the selling date.

I thought you might want to be aware of the situation in case there were some shortages in other boxes.

CAN SOMEONE ANSWER THIS QUESTION?:
For health reasons, I studied the ingredient list on the Hostess Snowballs package wrapper, as I'm not sure I can eat the frosting part. However, the ingredients for the cake and frosting seem to be all combined in one list. What are the ingredients in the frosting only, and the nutrition information on just the frosting? Also, if there are any egg whites in the frosting, are they raw? Baked?

My family of five has been a loyal user of Merita Bread(s) since moving to Charlotte, NC, ten years ago. Prior to this time we enjoyed both the Wonder Bread and Butternut brands (we relocated from Chicago to Birmingham, AL, then to Charlotte ? had to have relatives send us Wonder Bread to Birmingham).
We tend to purchase the country white bread, country wheat bread, hamburger and hot dog buns (the best!) and my favorite ?Jewish Rye w Carraway seeds?. We recently purchased a loaf of Country 100% Whole Wheat Bread and to our disappointment one half the loaf has gaping holes below the top crust to about half way down into the meaty section of the bread. The other half appears ok.
I just wanted to call this to your attention. This is the first time we have every exhibited a problem with any of your breads (there had been similar problems with the Rye Bread but no where near the extent of the Wheat Bread. Even though my eldest son is living on his own and my middle son is away at college (still have one living at home) we still purchase anywhere from 3 to 6 loaves of bread per week (this includes the buns ? did I tell you I think Merita Hamburger/Hot Dog buns are the best?)
I am sure that this is an isolated incident and we may never see a recurrence of this again. We just wanted to let you know.

I have been a one-a-day consumer of Devil Dogs for about 20 years. In my rural city two big chain stores, Price Chopper and Tops, have discontinued Devil Dogs and have replaced them with a cheaper, inferior, pseudo devil dog which I will not eat. Why are they being discontinued in both chains up here and is there any way I can find them again, perhaps online? I live near Norwich, New York.
Your help in keeping this gustatorial ritual active is much appreciated!

chocolate cake and white frosting does not have tomato in it.
I purchased it from the vending machine where I work at Metaldyne, Fremont, IN
It will be a long cold day when I purchase anything with the Dolly Madison label on it.

Today I bought a box of twinkies for my 2 year old son. I remembered how
much I enjoyed them as a kid. I was quite surprised when I opened the twinkie
and there was no cream filling. I opened 2 more to find the same. I then
dumped out the box and realized, you can tell if the cake has filling simply by
turning it over, and looking at it in the package. Much to my dismay, there
were only 2 twinkies with filling.
Needless to say my son was not captivated by his first twinkie.
How could this happen?

To Whom It May Concern:
Yesterday I purchased a loaf of Merita white bread from the Walmart Store located at Jim Redman Parkway in Plant City. This bread is so hard on the bottom and tastes stale despite the fact that there is a freshness date of 6/14 on the bread.
I am not going to make a trip back down to the store to return it, just wanted to let someone know that this is not the quality that I have come to expect from the Merita name and 1.76 a loaf is a bit steep to pay for stale tasting hard bread. I could have gotten a loaf of the store brand for .77 and it probably would have been fresher.

I am trying to figure out how the calorie count for this pie could possibly be what they list it as on your wrapper. 520 is way more than other brands' calorie totals, the highest being 384 for 1/6 of a homemade blackberry pie. I do know that way back in the 60s and 70s when I was eating your CHERRY pie, the same size, that the pies were LARGER than they are now. Could it possibly be that the caloric count the list applies to the size the pies USED TO BE? By the way, the calorie count listed on the wrapper way back then was only 440. Considering that they are now smaller, this doesn't make sense.

I had contacted your firm before , but no solution only a phone call from I believe from from Malvern, Arkankas area manager. Said it costs many $$$ to have a truck on the route. This was over 2 years ago, Ideal still has their trucks on the road early AM and I don't think they are #ONE in the bread business.
I Think after all of this time your Company would have their act toghether!!
Don't need anymore phone calls just DELIVERY as your competeiors have.

Hi everyone,
First I would like to say that I love their products. In fact, I buy Donut Gems (peanut) nearly everyday. The last package that I bought to day was a major disappointment. The taste of the donut was fine but everyone completely fell apart when I picked it up. It was very difficult to eat and finally I gave up. I just thought that you would like to know since I have never had this problem before.
Thanks for listening,

I absolutely love Drake's cakes and have since I was a child and lived in New England. I live in Tennessee now and find it impossible to find them. I was recently in New England and purchased a few boxes of Yodels, Ring Dings and Funny Bones. The only problem is that now I'm out and can't buy anymore again. Why don't they sell them in the south? Can I buy them online and have them shipped? Help!

No WONDER (get it?) sales are down... have you ever really actually TRIED to get hold of anyone in SALES at IBC, or their Colombo Bakery, for example? IMPOSSIBLE. SO.. tell me.. how does a company actually expect to SELL anything, when a customer can't get someone on the phone to find out where (what distributor, direct sale, etc..) to BUY their product? |

I am a huge fan of the Hostess Honey Buns. They are my favorite. I eat 1-2 a day at work until we are sold out. But I noticed the other day I bought 2 of them to eat, and they were burnt on the bottom, and crispy to bite. And you could taste the burnt flavor when you bit the. Now this will not stop me from buying the Honey Bun. But the quality I usually have wasn't in that last 6-7 I bought they all seemed to be burnt. I really enjoy Honey Buns, just thought I would give some feed back.

Comment: I have been with your company for over a year and it is an excellent company to work for. Ireally enjoy workong for you folks. My comment is, why is that you folks can not deliver our Fridays cake on Wednesday night with our Thursday orders. It makes real difficult to get up a 1:am in the morning just so we can load up for one day. It is always better to load up the day before so in the morning we just have to get our hand held and get on the route. How come our deliverys are always late? |

Being a long time fan of Hostess snacks, the number of Twinkies I
have consumed since childhood would give any well meaning nutritionist
nightmares. I have never found anything unusual in their packaging until
yesterday, when I opened a 10 pack box of Twinkies and discovered one
which looked as if it had been bitten in half! .....can you give me an explanation?
Thanks for all the great snack treats! ('cept this one!)

Comment: I also noticed the popularity of this site has increased tremendously. Look up "INTERSTATE BRANDS" on any search engine like GOOGLE, AOL, MSN, EXCITE, LYCOS, or ALTAVISTA and this site is listed #1on all on them. I have emailed the webmaster on a few occassions telling him to let the public know about this site by putting word about it on messages boards and in chat rooms, but they have not done anything. I guess they do not understand how valuable their placement on the INTERNET really is. That lady who writes about IBC for the paper here would love to see this. |

We have half wrappes hoho's and the other half of the wrapper is folded under the back side. I have stale boxes of HoHo's. I think that this started when it seemes that one Hoho has a hoho and a half in its package that was not sealed at one end. |

I find this very interesting... Interstate Brands which had thier big seller at the beginning (Merita) is now going to h*** in a hand basket due to putting Wonder flunkies in the drivers seat. Since the Wonder suit and ties took over the big seats Merita has suffered greatly. Putting people in charge from a company that had to be bought out in the first place is very poor business actions. |

To whom it may concern,
I have been purchasing "Hostess Light Low Fat Crumb cakes" for years, and have always been satisfied with your product. I recently purchased a box on May 27, 2003, and the sell by date was June 12, 2003. I noticed after the second day, the bottoms of the crumb cakes had mold spots on them. I found this to be odd since I just bought them two days prior and the expiration sell date was June 12. I thought I should bring this to your attention because perhaps there was a defect in your packaging system. I noticed the mold actually after I ate one of the cakes, and I just happened to look at the bottom of the other I was eating. This is something that when eating them, a person will not notice. I immediately looked at the other remaining unopened in the box, and they all had mold on them.
To be honest I may be apprehensive to purchase this item in the future, only because there was mold on a product that pretty much was just put out as "fresh".
I hope this is a help to you in monitoring the quality of your products.
Hostess Lights Low Fat Crumb Cakes : UPS # 45000 00873.
Expiration June 12, 2003. Number by the Expiration Date 56139 03:15.

I purchased a box of 24 Twinkies at the Giant on Wilkens Avenue and Maiden Choice Lane in Arbutus, Maryland on Sunday this past.
The box was not damaged, however, EVERY single Twinkie in it was smashed to some degree. The Last Sale Date on the box is Jun18 H53144.
It was bizarre to open a box not damaged only to find smooshed cakes in it.

Comment: the talk about saving money hmmm You want people to provide service for minimal hours. no consideration that we have to make a living. You waste more food than one can imagine for the dumpster are often loaded with not only out dated products but product that still has a good date still listed. Some products are as much as a week still useable. You did away with the route recievers so now there is no one checking to make sure the drivers are doing what they are suppose to. You are cutting jobs in order to be efficent but my question to you is if people are not able to work who will afford to buy your product? Then the routes and thrift stores can't get the products they order and often we are out of our sale items because we can't get our product. How is this good business practice? |

I am seriously disappointed. Lots of times these cakes help me get thru the day. Usually my experience with these cakes is pleasant. I don't even think about the calories, but today dry cake isn't good enough to cover the calorie intake.

Why would it be in such limited availability? I haven't had one in many years but would have bought plenty if I could find them. Even on the hostess web site you mysteriously omit the Chocodile character I remember from the old commercials and on the box yet you show all the other old characters. Is there a Chocodile conspiracy going on? |

Comment: Wonder Bread has an ongoing HISTORY of racial discrimination. From the top all the way to the bottom. Such as Jerry Kemp, Tony Izzo, Don Orsini and Carl Saks. Whats needed, is that you together with the head of the company and fix the problem. Some will allow pride to get in the way, but those guys in Hodgkins seemily HATE Black Males. At that there is lots of times Black Route men do better jobs than our counterparts, but their efforts go unrewarded.
I even know of a guy who got suspended for picking out some over coded bread that a White guy left in his store. And the black driver has 4 kids and a wife. He has been suspended since Feb.14th 2003. HE DID NOTHING WRONG. THe white guy got written up and lost no days of pay, the Black guy is still forced to be off work!!!!!! |

I purchase a loaf of bread on 5/31. Yesterday morning (Sunday, 6/1/03) I opened the loaf & there was a huge brown discoloration thru out the entire loaf. The white part was soft & fresh but the brown spots were stale & dried ????
I cannot read the Date on the wrapper as it is NEVER DISTINCT OR LEGIBLE ON ANY OF THE LOAFS ON WONDER BREAD... WHY ???

I was recently in California. We tried some terrific bread there, it was a granola bread with maple and raisins, we are now home in Florida and are trying to locate this bread, I think (not sure) its made by the Millbrook Bakery, is there any place here selling this bread? Hope someone can help us locate a place here that sells this wonderful bread.

Comment: Well the Marketing fellows here survived their test with the HR people and the "Big Guy" so I guess they will be Hanging with Mr Cooper for awhile. Actually it was just a ploy as they had no intentions of getting rid of them. Now they think they are beholding to him and he can get them to do anything he wants. Time will tell if he can actually handle the 4 bakeries, me think NOT! |

We bought a box of Ho Ho's last night. In the box of 10 there were 3 that the wrappers were not sealed. We threw these away. The only number on the box is: ML Jun13 076141
It has been MANY MANY years since we have bought a Hostess product and am very disappponted in the lack of quality control. Doesn't someone check the wrappers before they get sealed into a box?
The 7 remaining were quite good, but having to throw away 1/3 of the box is a waste of money. I certainly will not be in a rush to buy another box anytime soon.

I just recently purchased a box of Hostess Mini Muffins - Chocolate Chips and the 4 packages of muffins were extremely hard and stale. The number on one of the bags is 1170 62D8 The reference number on the outside of the box is E62117 Jun 11.
We have been buying this product for many years and have not been disappointed so far. We plan to keep on buying this product since it is very popular in our household.

This past week I purchased a box of Drake's Value Pack Coffee Cakes and they are all burned and packaged some up and some down in the packages. They couldn't be eaten being they were so burned. I couldn't believe after all the years I've purchased this product that this passed inspection and was put on the store shelves. |
