If one has a desire to "get even" the very best way to achieve this is for one to get ahead and continue to move on in their life. Nobody on this earth has the absolute authority to deprive others of the right to live. If you really want happiness in your life then you have to allow others in your life to continue in their lives as they choose. We are indeed born creatures with a sense of free will. In order to advance as a nation of people, we formed a society known as the United States of America. It is not a perfect place by any means however we believe it is the best place upon this good earth. Don't waste your life dwelling in the past. You have a great future! Get busy on it!

IBC has the shittiest equipment in the industry, they'd rather pay us "bottom feeders" OT then buy new trucks. May be the next time I am out on the road and the bypass signal comes on I will ignore it and pull in and ask the scale operator to write the company a ticket because the trailer hasnt been washed in months. Ca doesnt play when it comes to hauling food in dirty trailers. Gotta go the Semi is loaded and it is raining! you know the rest.

To all Hodgkins Employees: The post few below is correct. If all you do is complain about your job FIND ANOTHER ONE. This goes to everyone, people in the back constantly complain, yes I know it's hard work, but you make a good pay rate, you have to work holidays, well you knew that when you took the job, and when you call off on a holiday you''re not screwing management, you're really screwing your fellow worker making him/her stay for a double. The routemen make a good salary, yes their work is hard but like I said before you knew that before you took the job. Now the office. How hard can you people be working up there. How hard is it to move paper around. What is there really to complain about. You don't like your supervisor, well guess what most people don't like their bosses. So if you constantly talk about quitting do us all a favor and DO IT. This especially goes for the BAM. Thank you for letting be blow off steam

Those that wont or can't should stay in those jobs and focus on the tasks at hand. Be mindful of your roll in this company and what you can do do help reduce costs and maintain good morale. If what you do or say does nothing to help build this company up then don't say it. There's lots of good people in this comany tht want to see it succeed, regardless of what style of businees we turn into. Try posting some helpful words to someone that has a problem, Their bashing stems from frustration, which is common when there's turnoil in a company. I you all work here then set those battles and bashing aside and work on resolving the problems. Good deeds will always help a frustrated person out, Help your co-worker when you can. Managers, try finding the good in you people and they will know that you appreciate then,

Patty Cake, I was not very clear on my first post. The reason I am questioning the $12 million figure is because IBC is claiming the "savings" on this 8-K filing. Is the 8-K filing for the listed financial period or is it an accumulative amount for the year to date? Actually, in either case the amount shouldn't have been listed because they don't pay out the amount until the end of January. Is this just a case of pre-posting a "savings" which hasn't occurred or what?

This is in response to the Hodgkins Operator. You're making people believe you are losing your job - when in fact your position was eliminated not your job. You will still be employed by our company in a position that will pay you more, even though there is talk that you don't deserve it. So, quit your whining and be happy you will still be employed by our company, which I believe is a good company. The company can only be good as it's employees. Too bad we have so many bitter and vicious people working for our company. If you all have nothing better to do than complain about the company than do yourself and the employees that are content with being employed by IBC a favor, QUIT. No one is forcing anyone to stay at a company that they that unhappy about. This is the first time in years I have gone on this website and I am really ashamed of all the bashing being done on this website.

Comment: TO THE WRITER OF "I'm confused. In the company's most recent 8-K statement (for the period ending 11-13) the company is claiming a $12 million "savings" by them not paying into the "profit sharing" 401K plan for non-union employees. The previous statements they made was that there were 1200 employees affected, then they said 900. If there were 1200 employees then that comes out to $10,000 per. Now is that $12 million a year and if so, why are they claiming this credit for this period. They have always made this payment at the end of January (and it has never been the $10K per employee which they are claiming!). I know for a fact the $10K does not apply to most of the non-union employees so are they including stock options or what? More book cooking? Hmmmm.". IT'S NOT EVENLY DISTRIBUTED, THE DEPOSIT THAT THEY MADE PREVIOUSLY TO 401 K ACCOUNTS WAS A PERCENTAGE OF ANNUAL SALARY, SO NOT EVERY AMOUNT WAS THE SAME FOR EVERY PERSON. THE BIG BOYS HAD MORE THAN 10 K......

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Two Wal-Mart employees who police say followed a manager's orders to shoot and kill a stray cat have been charged with federal animal cruelty. The men, both assistant managers at the Supercenter, were arrested and released after a court appearance Wednesday. Christopher Anderson, 29, and Jeffrey Hardin, 21, told police the store's manager ordered them to get rid of the animal that was living in a storage trailer behind their store. All managers potentially involved in the incident have been suspended without pay pending an internal investigation and could be fired, said Wal-Mart spokeswoman Sharon Weber. "We were outraged when we learned of this incident. This kind of action is completely inconsistent with the way we do business," she said. A truck driver who reported the incident said he saw store employees placing what he believed to be a dead animal in shrink wrap a day after he heard workers joking about shooting the cat. Store manager Darrel Weitzel told police he had told some of his employees to get a gun and get rid of the cat after attempts to coax it from the trailer failed, according to a police report. IBC better clean up your sanitaion Act you can not misuse pestisides to kill wild birds!!!! read your labels AIB approved I think NOT........

Hmmmm.

To the Hodgkins Operator from a former Employee: Sorry they are cutting your job. If they need to get rid of a person they should look to the HR Department. Matt McAdamis is a jerk, Carol Gee knows nothing and the clerk Laura , things in the HR Department are suppose to be confidential, but she tells her break buddies everything. I know this for a fact because the bitch did it to me. All I can say to you Hodgkins Operator - Good Luck and maybe you'll find something better

To the person that put the post, Lets face it group, Bloody Monday will happen in every plant except the ones that are on the slate to close, Some people on this site do have a few friends left in the G.O. That give out information. It is sad that this company keeps every thing HUSH HUSH. Lack of comunication from top to bottom that is why we are in this mess besides Mark Dirks collecting a fat pay check and never keeping up with the consumer needs. But it will happen on Monday .

Greensboro, N. C. I feel like alot of people are upset about all of this with IBC. But some of you need to get a life! It's not the end of the world. The way most of you talk(write) about the bad things that are happing, how can you expect anything good out of this. Lift your sprits up by remenbering some good times in your life. Are some good values that your parents taught you. Does that amount to anything to you? Alot of this complaning is really silly! THANKS ---------ALLEN JERNIGAN in Rocky Mount & COOKIE MONSTER in Henderson, NV. You both were the only nice, etc. to leave a message and to leave your name. Why do you upset people insist on being so mad and rude. I used to be very mad at Merita, but i got over it. The stress will kill you! Their's other ways of dealing with this. Sometimes it does not happen the way we want. But it's what we make of it. We will move on no matter what happens. We are adults, lets deal with it. How come their is not alot of complaining on the east coast? I wish ever one well. Life is going happen no matter what. Julie Ann Gigi Lay 12-30-04

Comment: To whom it may concern, I'm looking for any historical information on Drakes brand products. I have conducted many on-line searches of my own and have come up empty on information concerning your snack cake products. I'm looking for product induction dates, why products were created, and any other fun facts about the products. I'm particularly interested in Funny Bones (they are my favorite snack cake ever!), Suzy-Q's, Devil Dogs, Yodels etc. I would love it if you could help me out, or give me a site I could go to research. At this point, I'm so intrigued by why the information is so secretive. All of the other snack cake sites are very easily accessible. Please let me know.

Billings is closing, well, I have seen your trucks in the Pamona lot, and it is no wonder you are closing, thats that IBC crap equipment, CBC would have never allowed cake to be delivered in that crap. You plant propbably looked like your tractors! The more plants they close, the more cake LA has to make, the more work we have, hey maybe we can get a couple of runs to the Northwest ( line driving will be next for LA Hostess, it is the only way to save money, just look at UPS and all other union frieght carriers)....Whats that, the semi is loaded and I gotta go.....you know whats next!

we have already lost 1/2 of our managers in this area.I understand that thecompany is not doing well, and that we have to cut costs.I.B.C. could have made these changes before declaring bankruptcy . Innovative thinking is what drives companies all across the U.S.New products, more personnel devoted to our companies safety programs, cut down on theft, actually listen to employees. We could save untold millions and future jobs.Do we want to save this company or sell it?I have enjoyed working for this company for many years, but my family has read some of these comments posted here and elsewhere and cannot believe what they read.Hopefully, I.B.C. will come up with a new plan other than cutting empoyees and benefits.Good luck in 2005!

you know with all the rumors going around, (some will be true, some won't) you would think people would be trying to work together to save your plant. Maybe in some plants they are, but they sure in the hell aren't working together at Hodgkins. You have the Operation Manager blaming Sales, the Sales department blaming Shipping Department, etc. But the one department who places blame on everyone else is the office. The supervisors don't get along, the BAM is MIA most of the time. (three hour lunches), the clerks all hate each other, no one will help anyone else out. They believe that they are all safe. Well wake up people!! Instead of being so back stabbing why not try to work together and see if we can stay off the shut down list. This goes for all the departments. Bloody Monday doesn't have to mean Jan. 3, it could come anytime!!

Comment: Let's face it group. The so called Bloody Monday is not going to happen. It's nothing but someones' wet dream. Corporate is busy looking to sell IBC. They are not trying to run it. They are not schooled in running a manufacturing company like IBC. They are only babysitting it until it's sold off and they have sucked out every last dime. Then and only then, will they leave. The bakeries that are still baking, need people to do the work. They do not have that many extra people doing the work. They can only lay-off management people because they are not necessary in producing the product or getting it to the store where they sell it to the public. Therefore, without exception, Companies let management go and keep the people who make the product, and get it to market. If your job is in shift management, vice-president, foreperson, planning person, assistant human resources or likewise, you are a prime candidate for losing your job. Good-bye and Good luck...its been nice working under you! Don't come back.

I have worked for IBC for many years. Throughout the years this has been a great company. We started having problems when they hired Adam Ligon as the General Manger. He fired our General Sales Manager, who is great at his job and hired someone with NO COMMON SENSE!!!! Sales Dept. has gone down hill ever since! Since the changes Adam is now the General Sales Manager, sales still suck! There is NO kind of organization within the sales dept. Employee morale is down because of Adam. No one likes him. He blames most of his mistakes on his Division Managers and secretaries. They work hard for him and he does not appreciate the work they do. I think the Rocky Mount Bakery would be a better place without him.

"Spudly" Your constant bragging about your "Union Wage" and the overtime you accumulate in traffic, or the Motel room on IBC's dime for a layover goes to show the amount of waste even down at the "street" level of this company. It's jerks like you who take advantage of the system who end of ruining it for the rest of us along with the greedy individuals at the top. You'd better love that "Union" wage while it lasts, if it lasts. (hopefully for all of us it does) A waste of another's honestly earned wages are you...

All management in this plant would even slit their own mother's throat to get ahead. What they don't know is that they will be going down the same road all them good employees that they have screwed. Management has never learned a lesson that you treat people the way you want to be treated. Your honesty and respect has been lost due the fact that your intentions are to hurt as many families as possible. Now look at your record and see how many people have left. I am tired of working 12 hour shifts.

Comment: To: Our ever-vigilant IBC thrift store employee! RE: No change for customers' twenty-dollar bill! I believe that if you look back upon the orginial customers' complaint, it was not about you or your co-worker not having the correct amount of change ---it was about how rude the thrift store employee acted and spoke to this customer! Notwithstanding the above and to answer your question about what does an employee do about not having change for their customers needs, you have to convey this need to your manager. If they fail to provide your store with what your customers need, then you simply tell your customers, when prompted, the truth! You agree that you should have the proper change and that you have told your managera and apprently they have chosen to ignore you! Customers understand this. They do not understand nor tolerate insults, harsh words or treatment from salespeople whose wages they are paying for! These are your customers! Not IBC customers. Treat them that way all the time!

ALSO MOST OF THE TIME THERE IS ONLY 1 PERSON WORKING AT A TIME, I'M SURE YOU WOULD BE EVEN MORE MAD IF YOU WENT TO THE BREAD STORE AND IT WAS CLOSED BECAUSE THE CLERK HAD TO LOCK THE DOOR TO GO TO THE BANK TO GET SOME 5 DOLLAR BILLS AND 1 ONES SO SHE COULD TAKE YOUR 20 DOLLAR BILL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Many of you people have asked why have people with very little education and no brains in charge. Well think about this. Bakerys run 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Off day are often changed at the companys discretion. Management has 10 to 12 hours of work in a day with no overtime and only paid for 8. Worker are made to work 10 to 12 hours and are burned out or so tired they get injured. Take time off for any reason and management wants to write a document on you and put it in your file union or not. Never get the holiday off ever. The only thing good is the pay. If you have a family forget spending time with them cause there will be little or none. Forget taking a vacation when you want to unless you are a lifer with the company. So my point is anyone accepting a position is from the bottom of the barrel so to speak or the desperate.

Comment: Any IBC employee (like truck drivers)cannot work more than 15 hours a day nor more than 70 hours each work week. The only way a truck driver at IBC can currently gross $90,000 a year is to violate federal DOT hours of service rules. IBC is also guilty by allowing it to take place. Knocked out in clubs, and knocked out in the mall by a women who took your parking spot. You are a coward my friend, you are an internet RAMBO. You are one who hides behind your computer and talks like you think you know it all, in reality, you dont know a thing. The Management has no HONOR if they were to fire a person that is off under the FAMILY LEAVE ACT. But that does not surprise me as i have seen and heard alot thru the years. There is alot of DEVILS in the world and why most of them seem to work for this company is beyond reason. Like all of us they too will meet the maker and pay for their evil ways and burn in the fires of HELL.

Chronic liers are not people you can trust. IBC management is made up from pools of Chronic liers. They, therefore are incapable of solving problems. They do however, lie, cheat or steal their way out of them.

Comment: I purchased a Cherry Fruit Pie from our vending machine. I was very disappointed when I took my first bite of the pie and discovered that there was virtually no filling inside the pie. There was a thin layer along the top of the pie, not even 1/4" thick. I then turned the pie over and discover a large gapping hole in the pie crust. Isn't this something that should have been caught during the inspection process? I was pretty upset that I had spent my money on nothing but crust. I really love your Cherry pies, but I'm not sure if I will purchase another one for a while.

I even went to the Hostess Bakery Outlet in Meriden, CT and they never heard of them. Is there anywhere around here where they are available? My niece came for Christmas from Missouri and brought me some, that's how much I like them but it will get real expensive traveling back and forth between Missouri and Connecticut to get them.   Comment: I just wanted to drop you a note and let you know about an issue I had with a package of Ding Dongs. I just purchased them from Pavilions in Westlake Village, CA. The 'last sale date' says Dec 27 (with the numbers 703436 beneath the date). Not only had the Ding Dongs 'bloomed over' (e.g. whitish cast all over the chocolate coating) but when I broke one apart to further investigate, I found this thing to be stale like a rock and completely inedible--I've just had to throw both of them away :( Please tell me this was a one off deal and if I buy another pack that they'll be good?! I've been a longtime customer since childhood and would hate to see this brand fall into the abyss as so many others have.

Comment: IBC Profit Centers? What an outright scam this entire program, known as SOAR has turned out to be for the employee's of this company. It's a classic example of what not to do in business rather than what one should do! When I first heard the term SOAR, it reminded me about the story of someone attempting to soar with eagles, while working with turkeys! Following the introduction of the term SOAR, other similar acts of absurd human behavior with word groups, soon followed. SAP was the next wave of bullshit to hit the employee shoreline at IBC. Then came the hard sell approach, that IBC is One! One what I asked? One big bunch of Lies and Crap?

If Management was serious about saving money and cutting cost they would have eliminated much of the excess supervisors and upper management that is just hanging around smoking and drinking coffee and playing around at their computers. I have seen regional come into a plant and ask the plant eng , How can we fix this problem. Regional had no clues. What a waste. Also heard regional Eng get on the phone and ask for 2 racks of buns for his block party. He should go out and buy them like everyone else. I guess that is the way it is in America.

Comment: IBC is dying and several post's on this site are way off base. Their (people who post here) main concerns should be with what changes are taking place in their work locations and communicating those changes, as a whole, to other employee's throughout the entire company (the IBC heartbeat). Instead, apparently some of them want to joke around with other's welfare and well-being. This site is a great communicating tool however it has to be used correctly. Working people need to know that they have to stand together in order to survive. Why? Because almost everyone else in this world is part of an organized group. Union's used to be part of the working classes. Now they are big business and Union's today work against the real interests of laboring classes of people. It all boils down to how much money and influence can one person yield against a world of organizations with unlimited resources of money, time, talent and influence!

Comment: To: The Elgin, Illinois, IBC thrift store Shopper! What you experienced on your recent IBC shopping trip, is n-o-t and I repeat -not- acceptable treatment for customers shopping at any store in Americia. Submit your letter to the headquarters of IBC in Kansas City. Note the time and place it occurred. Was it a female salesperson or a male, etc.. Ask for a written apology! If you receive one, then hand deliver a copy to the store. Then decide if you want to continue to support this store in the future. No apology--then shop elsewhere! Your are right...it really is just this simple!

Comment: My question is I purchased a box of mini muffins and when I opened the box all 4 packages were like what you would buy of the store shelf or in a machine at work. Usually a box of 4 has mini muffins written all over the packages.I just want to know why this box was like this?

Comment: I returned to my winter address in Tucson AZ over a month ago, Nov 18. Since then I have not been able to buy one box of the raspberry filled powder sugar donuts, even with asking at Customer service desks at 3 supermarkets in Tucson, SAFEWAY on Valencia, ALBERTSONS on Silverbell, GARRETTS on corner on Mission and Ajo. Am I having an availability problem because you have stopped making the donuts, or is it just that they are so popular, that they are always sold out ? Thanks for any info you can give me.

Comment: Dear Sirs, Just thought you might like to be aware of this matter. Earlier today, Sunday 12-19-04 I went to the outlet store here in Elgin Illinois located on Airport Rd.. I attempted to purchase 5 loafs of bread for my lunches and my daughters lunches. While waiting in line, the cashier made comment to the customer in front of me about not having change because everyone has been coming in with 20's. All I had was a 20 so I asked if she could make the sale. In a rude tone of voice the cashier replied "only if your purchase totals 15 dollars or more otherwise forget it". So I left my purchase on the counter and headed for my car. Believing this to be uncalled for and wrong for her to refuse me service, I returned inside and asked if the was a corporate number or a manager I could speak with. The cashier said if I wanted a number I could look it up myself. This is the most discourteous service I have ever received and I don't feel it's my responsibility or problem to provide her with correct or smaller money. As a retailer it is there responsibility and refusing me service is totally wrong. Well, just thought you might like to know how the store deals with their customers. You won't ever hear from me or my family again, we will never return to that store or any other store for that matter.

Comment: To the former at-will IBC production manager who "suddenly left the building" for FMLA leave, never to return again! Contact (on line or US mail) the federal US Department of Labor regarding a Claim for unlawful termination under FMLA. At will employees are not, by definition ordinarily excluded. Most states also have a family leave law, as well. Now, in a manner of speaking, you really are free! Enjoy, and good will to you and your family!

Interstate Bakeries Corp. released a hodgepodge of preliminary financial data late Friday as it continues to piece together an accurate picture of its status leading up to the company's bankruptcy filing. The Kansas City-based company (OTC: IBCIQ), which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Sept. 22, said it lost $16.9 million during the first quarter of its 2005 fiscal year. That compares with earnings of $11.2 million in the year-ago quarter. Sales for the quarter, which ended Aug. 21, were $812 million, a 2.3 percent decrease from the prior year's $831 million, the company said. The unaudited financials, contained in a Form 8K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, also included monthly operating reports for the four-week periods that ended Sept. 18 and Oct. 16, as required by the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The company said it lost $5.9 million for the month that ended Sept. 18 and $11.2 million for the month that ended Oct. 16. Interstate, which hasn't made an audited quarterly earnings report since April 15, said it "remains uncertain if and when it will file its delayed annual report" for the fiscal year that ended May 29. Consistent with preliminary unaudited information released Aug. 9, the company reiterated the following preliminary financials for the fiscal year that ended May 29: A net loss of $25.7 million, compared with earnings of $27.5 million in fiscal year 2003. Net sales of $3.46 billion, a 1.7 percent decrease from $3.52 billion in fiscal year 2003. The company said its total sales continued to decrease in the first quarter because of continuing declines in sales of white bread and snack cake items. On the other hand, the company said it got a revenue boost from price increases for its private-label bread and sweet goods and from sales of its new super premium Baker's Inn products. But it's hard to tell what the future holds for the popularity of various baked goods, the company said. New federal dietary guidelines are due out next month, and a preliminary draft recommends that Americans reduce consumption of saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol. The government also is expected to recommend increased consumption of whole grain products and decreased consumption of refined grain products.

Well, this is the first time I have ever seen this board, and I am so glad that I am no longer a part of such a nigthmare company like IBC. I was the production manager for the Chicago plant and have been privy to alot of bad stuff. Let me say that it is no wonder (no punn intended) this company is in chapter 11. Years of the good old boy management system has driven this company into bankruptcy, and it should be no suprise that all of the same people have survived the restructure. Maybe the CEO has resigned, but the crappy managers in the corporate ranks remain. I have never been a part of such a sell-out company. The backstabbers and the company men that don't care about people. These plants have been robbed of budget money so the GM's and the department heads can earn their bonuses. Hey, I'm not compaining as I received my bonus, but when you just simply don't build on people, you become a people using company that falls short on resources. Look at the job descriptions they used for the restructure; they were fitted for the existing staff. many of the operation positions didn't require college degrees. What a farse. I have been a baking professional for over 20 years, and this company is a tragedy. I was terminated while I was on FMLA, and there is nothing i can do about it because I am considered an "at-will-employee". What kind of a company does something like this. My family has suffered great losses from this, and I will succeed wherever I am. I am just glad I don't have to look at those imposters like Rich Hobbs, Todd Brown, Gene Murphy, Jerry Kemp, and Matt the jerk HR guy.

I think that the money you are saving is not going to buy homes, it is going into things like Rims for your rundown vehicles, try putting on a brake light before spending all that cash on wheels!. I gotta go to work now, cant wait to see the police tape up on Slauson Ave, lets see what Mexican Gang member shot who this week fighting over the land that their parents rent. Got to love the South Central family values. Bimbo, while you and your relitives came to this fine country to work, did you forget to have someone watch your kids? Once again, it is not okay to have your 6 year old watch your 4 year old while you are working. Bimbo, go try being a family advocate for your Walmart generation border baby!! Gotta go the semi is loaded and I got cake to deliver. Sorry about people in other parts of the country, but this is LA, CA the worlds 5th largest economy where people dont mind paying 3.59 for a box of junk food.

I know times can be tuff for all of us. Some worse than others, and some just fine. But we all need to try to except what has happen. It's a part of life. Some times we can't change things and some times we can. You know that life is not always fare. So instead of making ourselves miserable, don't let it get the best of you. When something goes wrong, we need time to cool off. I know the ups and downs of Merita. And it's not the same everywhere. But we will continue to live and make it some how. People are really lucky to even have a job. Have you ever hit rock bottom? We should have thanks for what we have, even if it is not alot. We can make it. And if you do the best you can, then you have givin it alot for a person, and that should make you feel good about yourself. ( at least you tried ). I hope this does not jinks me. My husband has always worked 70+ hours a week, complains a little, but does not get anymore that the next guy. He has not had any special treatment, but he works the best he can, and does a honest and good job. That's all we can do, and wish for the best.!

the problem is nobody is watching the kids so the kids are not watching what they are doing , everyone does whatever they please and the supervisors are either sleeping or taking the day off. This has got to be one of the worst runned companies i have ever heard of, workers sit on their butts in the cafe playing cards taking as many breaks as they want and if anyone says anything to them they run to the union guy and yell harrassment , while the supervisors get paid salary for five days of work and only work a couple of hours a couple of nights a week cause their wives need them at home and the other supervisors sit in the office playing or reading never once going on the floors to see whats going on. I say go back to the good old days when you got a raise or a promotion for doing a good job and you got fired for not doing your job, now thats how you save money.. ..

Dude, I've been resisting this forum for years cuz it doesn't change a thing. Now that you got me on it...you better be ready for some humor. Dear Mary , It is with great joy that I read your little but very inspired observations re. T. White. It is very difficult to believe that a company that is having as much difficulty as IBC can retain supervision as _ _ _ _ _ _ up as this nunbnutted A _ _ _H O L E. The man Can redefine the term Incompetent . It is with no small amount of admiration that I salute you . I was also aware of the by now world famous trip to SPAIN & the financial compensations involved. It is enough to make almost anyone VOMIT.[for you Tom if you read this it means PUKE] .I do not work for this company never did & if GOD smiles on me never will. What kind of management close (meaning ; can not keep a store open or get more business) and call themselves a competent sup. I thought one had to help business not hurt it, by not over odering for stores( to get a trip from the cookie co.) by not demeaning employees(talking to them as if they were his children although he probably does not speak to his kid this way, smells like an harassment lawsuit)but the best when he pays his daughter to work the whole summer , i didnt know we had outlets in SPAIN!! lets hire some super. that help not steal

My opinion is that too many Spanish people have taken our jobs away from us Americans. Just look around you and you can see most of them can not even speak english and are not citizens either. I say close the borders and worry about our own people first. Then mabey we would not be closing plants if Americans held these jobs.

Comment: If you do not know the answers to the questions noted below, then you better get busy and start to find answers now. You and your families welfare will depend on how much you know about these questions and answers. Because they will soon be coming your way! How long will it take for IBC to completely close down? Can they take my last payroll check with them? What about my pension and health benefits? Is IBC continuing to pay into these programs since filing BK? When will these programs end after IBC closes down and when is the last day I will be able to use my health insurance? Is IBC required to provide me with advance notice before closing down? Will I be able to apply for unemployment benefits? Will IBC continue to pay their injured workers? Will IBC pay me for my 5 weeks vacation and 40 days of accumulated sick leave after closing down? Will I be able to retrieve my stuff out of my locker at work? Will I be required to continue to pay my monthly union dues after IBC closes? Is IBC required to furnish their employees with a 90 day WARN notice while under BK?

Comment: I have been eating the Home Pride brand Breads since I worked at a Bakery in Syracuse New York, in 1981-82. Since that time I have been one of your best supporters advocaters of the best Wheat Bread I have ever eaten, and praised your brand to any one who has eaten the bread in my home, as the healthiest ever, and the best to freeze for another day. I was pleasantly surprized when I moved to Florida in 1999, to find that they sold your wonderful bread in my local grocery store (Publix) in Brandon, my new home. That is until someone in your company decided not only to change the outside wrapper, but to change the bread within too. Now your Whole Wheat bread is terrible. The outer crust is dry and crumbly, and has a burned taste to it. It wasn't just the first loaf but all I've purchased since that tastes this way. I'm sorry to have to write this to you but I felt you should know, that your bread is no longer the best in estimation. I don't know what prompted you to change your formula or recipe but in my eyes and taste buds it ain't makin it. I loved your old formula, and as a person who eats bread with every meal in some way, you have forced me to find a new brand, which I know will never live up to your previously fine reputation.

Comment: Wonder Bread, Hostess Pies and Cup Cakes today remind me of a brand name back in the 1920s, called Miracle Pies. Their motto was if it tasted good, it had to be a Miracle! IIBC just cannot make their company function like a fine Swiss Clock. If it's not a problem with the dough or their baking process, then it's a problem with not enough wrappers ordered to put it in. Who wakes these people up to go to work each morning and who puts them to bed at night? It can't be Santa Claus.

Your opinion on too many supervisors is i believe to be valid. Not only supervisors but the upper management also. That is why management has very little to do so they sit around and do what ever they want. Plus they all cover for eachother even if they are right or wrong. They have little or no honor and if this does not change their plans will fail. I see no changes to date that have produced any positive reconstruction values.

Question? How can the engineering dept at 05 justify having 5 supervisors for 17 workers. Question? Why are these god damned idiots (SUPERVISORS) being paid $45,000 - $65,000 anualy when they cant even spell BREAD. Seems to me Alvarez needs to go hunting fox.

Re: Hodgkins, IL You hit the nail on the head. Because of SAP we have already lost some people that were very good at it but after getting your ass chewed out because plant ran out of ingredients or packaging, this job is not worth the stress and pressure to keep things going. I'm out of here after the first of the year. IBC is going to lose a lot of good people that cared. And the pool to draw from is not looking too good for replacements?

The problems of IBC are not just SAP. I hope they are fixable. I hope things get better soon or IBC will lose the people we need to keep going. I watched this smart guy come in here and he was great. There was nothing he couldnt do. If you needed it done and nobody could get it done - he alwaysbfind a way. Then they brought in this SAP and make him a bam. I watch him keep it all moving no matter what happened or how bad things get. He still could do it. Now he tired of fighting the problems of IBC and SAP. He cant help out like before and hedon't like it. I can see how tired he is and Im afraid he going to leave. Hey,if you read this, dont give up, man! We need you. DOnt go.

Wise up all you people. You all must be stupid. If the management was interested in what you had to say you would know it by the changes that would take place. You are wasteing your breath. No one in upper management looks at these complaints or suggestions. Go and look for a new job that will appreciate you and move on before the good old boys close you down and you will be left with the table scraps.

RE;you know me,those were excellant points you just made, but you forgot aboutto point out the big problem we have company wide. This problem is the mid-level management types.I'm talking about the district mgrs. and the supervisors who have no people skills and try to run their areas with an iron fist. This us vs. them(routesales)mentality. Thus that's where the lawsuits all come from.Yet these people still keep their jobs and positions until the next problem arises.Nobody is going to let their bosses treat them in this manner and let them get away with it.If you treat me like crap, then I'm not going to give you 100%,in fact if it gets really bad I can go see my doctor and take a couple of months off with stress leave. Not everybody does this but some people won't take the bs from mngmt. These guys want to treat people under them like if they were little kids.I've worked for this Co. for over 20 years and can say 99% of routemen do a great job.

I have worked for this company for over 28 years. (ABCand IBC) all in management. This business is a very smiple business. You bake a great product. price it right and give the best service in the industry. Whats wrong with our company. The quality is poor and our service stinks. Our competitors are out serving us and baking a much better product. Our breads have low volume, under weight,Key hole sidewalls, buckshot crumb and smell moldy. Our cake taste stale and dry and lack filling. ESL is not the way to bulid sales. Our business was bulid on freshess not on how long the product can stay on the shelf. We continue to pull routes. That's not good for business. How can we expect a Route Saleman to work 3 or 4 chain stores per day and make call backs,sell-in dispays, speak to the store manager and if the poor guy has a Wal-Mart God help him beacuse this poor guy is the walking dead. We builded this company by giving the best service and adding route not cutting routes. I know that there's a cost to the route. Gas,wages.medical,WC etc. Ok where's what we need to do. Cut out the ESL program(it's ok to say it was a Mistake) go back to a 72 hour code on all branded bread and rolls.pull off the market on Monday and Thursday freshen the market. 14 day code is all you need on cake. If it does not sale in 7 days it's not going to sale. ADD BACK THE ROUTES. Let's service the accounts not just drop and run. When business is bad that's when you should have the best product on the market put the right stuff back into the product. This company has been my life,It's been great to me and my family and it hurts to see this Great Company in the shape that we are in today. But if each IBC empolyee would stop asking why and start saying what can I do to fix this company we would all see this Great company back on top. Service/the very best product/Add back routes and discontinue ESL. This is a very simple business. You put it out if does'nt sale you pick it up. That's it.

I read this at lunch every day and the last comment sadly seems to be the most realistic. Fear is a very destructive force and it is bringing out the worst in a lot of people. Greed and selfishness have also been very destructive to this company. I get the impression a lot of factions had wasted a lot of resources to make figures appear a certain way. Baking, shipping and sales staff were made to handle a lot of excess product that would never be sold except as animal feed or given to charity. The higher the position, the more return from this waste, until the "chickens came home to roost" and certain ones jumped the gun, selling too much stock, tipping off the SEC, analysts and stockholders. Let's try to pray for everyone who is a victim of these sorry acts.

Comment: I can see from reviewing post's on this site how a great many mistakes can happen for any number of reasons. And, for the most part, they all are noteworthy for the information and expressions which they seek to impart. The underlying questions remain to be about IBC being able to continue to operate; Will we see wage and benefit cuts; Will my workplace be closed; Will I have to seek employment elsewhere? The answers to these questions will not be the same for all employees. Some bakeries will close, some will not. Some employees will continue to perform their work, some will be layed off, fired, or retire. IBC was left running for such a long time under their own steam and without a captain or crew, that is will be almost impossible to rebuild it! All they have left of value to others, will be certain real estate locations and several name brand products. They lost their soul, a long time ago!

Attention DollyHo employees (Dolly Madison Routesalesmen with Hostess management) I need input. Please respond! What has been going on since June 2004? Are standards the same or is there a difference in application to some? Have you lost Shelve space or gained space to Hostess/Wonder? Have you lost special displays or gained special displays to Hostess/Wonder? Is your immediate supervisor a Dolly person or Hostess? How many routes are carrying Dolly and Hostess products on the same truck? How many combo cake/bread routes are out there? Have you heard of a National Rack set which requires Dolly being pulled off End Caps and being replaced with Hostess except for Zingers? Are your Dolly Sales up or down compared to last year? Do you know if Hostess sales are up or down to last year? Have you (Dolly) lost people either mangers or salesmen since June? Has Hostess/Wonder lost people? Are we One Company or are we Three Dolly, Hostess, and Bread?

CAN WE LEARN FROM THE PAST?? Product quality is dropping again. Remember when Dolly Madison 2- pack cinnamon rolls were in the top 10 best selling items for vending companies? It was just 7 years ago, then what happen we let Hostess have it and then the formula was changed. Now we do not even sell 30% of what we use too. Take a look at the Dolly 3-pack raspberry zingers they are soon to follow. Lets go back to making something good in appearance and taste, not cheap and easy to make.

This company (IBC) will never survive unless mangement accepts the fact that our customers want service not competion between two sub-companies. Mr Sullivan next time you vist a area you should talk to both Hostess and Dolly to see and hear the truth. The truth is we can not be one company. I do not care how many labels we have stick to the basics a shelve with cake on it; therefore, a happy customer and a happy route salesman making a good living. Let the Bread people do their thing and cake do its. TWO COMPANIES BREAD AND CAKE with seperate mangement and seperate sales figures.

Just for all of you out there who really want to know the truth about the problems with IBC, here it is summed up for you in three words- Poor Management. It is absolutely ridiculous how much money the upper management of this company are making. IBC goes bankrupt, and what do they do, keep on paying these outrageous wages to the upper echelons. The hard workers of this company are the people that are suffering. If the company would pay a little more, maybe that would be an incentive for all of the laborers of the company to sell more product. If the employees sell more, then IBC makes more. It is common sense.

I am a believer in KARMA, one day you will be working on that crane, and it will fall my friend, the Union is listening to your remarks. As for Drakes Cakes on the West coast, you have to remember people, in our contract it states, "if you bake it", you take it. Drakes are made in the east, they were once sold on Vons markets in CA, wasnt made in our West coast bakery, so the Swift Driver or other non union sucker was drop shipping, union found out, and yanked the product. You want Drakes, which I think is a good sell in So CAl, you need to bake them in So Cal. I goota go, the Semi is loaded and there is plenty of Wind to divert my route, gotta love that union wage.

Hey Ding Dong, since you "don't work" for this company, you obviously don't know what you're talking about. We union workers in the west coast are basically making the same wages as we have the last 10-15 years. The slight increase is due to routes being cut thus making the rest of the routes larger. So I guess the unions on the west coast have worked with IBC on having contracts that the Co. can afford.I can't speak about the unions in the midwest or the east coast. The union does not speak for each member,we speak for ourselves when we VOTE for each contract. If you want to know how things were before unions, talk to the old timers or better yet inform yourself with a trip to the library

In reference to Biddeford's likening a union strike to a child's tantrum. It also goes if you have a spoiled brat that will not choose to share, you stop playing with them. (aka STRIKE ) Over the last few years as IBC started loosing market share and big money. During that time the mucky mucks sitting on the board of directors still pocketed their big bucks. Will they have to stand accountable for their actions of running us into the ground? NO! We now are hearing how it is the fault of the union worker for asking unreasonable wages/benefits. Saralee and Flowers Baking are doing well. Their employees have very similar benefit packages. What was the big difference? MANAGEMENT YOU FOOL !!!!!!!!! Even Flowers has gone with a similar Extended Shelf Life program. The primary difference is they have added only one day to shelf time. Blame the workers. Say how lazy we are. Scream unjust retirement. Tell me this, if management did their job could a worker get by doing nothing??? Get the supervisors off their ass to watch what is going on. Make the truly lazy worthless union worker do their job. But make the real problem take part. Get management to lead and direct. Get the top mangement to check on the downstream people. Create a product line that the customer wants and get it to the market place. But not one to two years after your competition. Much like the legendary Phoenix IBC will rise again from the ashes. But for now it looks more and more like the not-so-legendary Titanic. I'd just like to see the Captain and crew go down with the ship. However, I'm afraid to say they left with the women and children. p.s. they took their fat wallets with them

Poeple, Sorry to pi$$ some of you off. Let me explain. I don't hate all Unions. Just most of them! Most Unions don't give a Fu*# about the membership or the company. For the most part that is the Union that you and in the past I was part of. Look at the United Auto Workers. They have worked with the auto makers to try to keep jobs in this country. That is a real Union, one that trys to protect jobs, not thier own ass and pay check as the bakers and teamsters union does. If your Union does not learn to work with IBC things will be much worse than you have it now. Trust me, I'm educated. I choose to work with my hands becasue I can't stand the suits! As far as me not making statdard wages for being a crane operator I'm still in training. yes I will have to join a Union again soon. Guess what though? My wages will change by the job. My Union is not as bad as most. Still not happy about it though.

Comment: Biddeford, ME: Granted, higher pay today started with the Union, but that is all. However, the point DingDong was making is; he does not have to be in a union to get the pay he wants. He gets the pay he wants by working for it and not by relying on someone else to get the raise for him, unlike union workers. Union workers are like children, if you do not get what you want you go on strike, like a child throwing a tantrum because he/she did not get what he/she wanted. In addition, you need to remember 'I' before 'E' except after 'C?. Receive not Receive. Go back to school and learn how to spell.

If memory serves, CBS MarketWatch reported couple of months back that one of the down falls for this company was, it has too many union contracts even for a company this size. Therefore, heads up union employees...I would not be surprised if Alvarez and his people will make big changes or eliminate most of your union contracts once the contracts expire. I have a question that I need an answer to if at all possible. I am currently employed by Interstate Brands. At the present time, I have accumulated three weeks of vacation per year and have not been presented with an opportunity to take any vacation time this year. I need to know if our vacation time rolls over to the next year, or can we be paid for our vacation time? If our vacation time is to roll over to the next year and I was unable to take three weeks this year, how can I expect to receive six weeks as of January 2005?

Comment: To whom it may concern, I was looking on the box of powdered donettes that we opened today about a place to comment and even found on the box that talked about "Quality Guarantee: ...We invite your comments and questions." However, there was number or web site for a person to send their comments to so I looked this up on the internet to submit my comment. My wife purchased a box of Hostess Powdered Donettes on December 14, 2004 from our local grocery store where we have previously purchased your products. The following morning we opened the box for breakfast and were very disappointed with the quality of the product. The donettes were hard and tasted stale to the point my children would not even eat them and threw the remaining donette that they took a bite out of away. I tried one just to make sure it was not children being silly and found that they were indeed telling the truth.

One way of saving money is to install in each depot a bank of monitors with daily instructions from the corresponding plant. Each routeman can punch in and out using his or her PIN.Thus no need for all that mid-level management. You could still do all the work needed with about 50-70% less of all that deadwood. All mid-level mngmt.(District managers, supervisors, etc.) think about is how to pluss-up their people's loads so they climb up the management ladder.Their salaries, cars, gas, expense accounts, cell phones would be eliminated. You're talking millions of dollars in savings for the Co. This is the year 2004,you don't need this amount of mid-level people when you have computors in each depot.

I have not had a hostess product for a long time (probably a couple of years) mostly because I have been staying away from sweets. But I remember the taste as a kid and ran across a Cherry fruit pie in a vending machine in Michigan and bought one on the spur of the moment - (as a dinner option) lookin forward to what I remember was a great taste. 1. The pie was not dated for "last sale date" (this should have been a clue) 2. I bit into it and the cherry reminded me of a fruit roll up (it was that bad) 3. Because it was all gummy it appeared hollow. Even on a good day - this was utterly disgusting!! All we hear about is that we need to bake more bread with less dough and close more bakeries. We need to sell more products but quit baking bread for other brands, dump all overbaked, out dated goods into dumpsters and close all thrift stores. Do they really expect us to believe this action will save us? God help us all because IBC is not only telling us lies, they themselves are living a lie.

Okay lets get something straight, When LA Dolly dovetailed with LA Hostess back in the 90's, LA Dolly did not bring any runs over, the only run they brought over were their run down Semi's and run down MGT. Hostess and Wonder were doing just fine without the Dolly product. When this company folds, it is not going to be about MGT, it is going to be about sales, it is not going to be about union teamsters, it is going to be about sales. Parents today dont pack their kids lunchboxes with twinkies and cupcakes, they pack them with apples and veggies. Our society has become so health concious, that pushing foods that are classified as "junk" is like selling drugs. The media has gone to another level with this, everytime I turn on the TV, their taking about another way to lose wait, and trust me people, there is no dounut diet. I take pride in what I do, I am a professional Truck driver, I work for the union, not for Hostess, I am contracted to drive their equipment. When the contract is over, and it is not renewed, I will drive for another union outfit. Theres always the non union Drivers...AKA Swift, Walmart...England, if those guys had a clue and knew that there were other alternatives then 25 cents a mile, they would be all over my union JOB! Hey, whats that?.....Friday gettaway traffic and I got an overtime load to Vicorville and everyone is going to VEGAS...I gotta hurry the 15 is jammed....Gotta love that union wage!!!!

Comment: The real wave of crimes promoted by the Teamsters Union against our nation deal with those committed each day against our children and our elderly citizens. Teamster lies and corruption knows no limits. Our children have the absolute right to grow-up and to learn about their world without having to hear the list of lies from the Teamsters Union. 1989 is the year America finally stood up and took action against this corrupt group of thugs and crooks. We have Mr. Rudy Giuliani, a former mayor of New York to thank for his efforts and accomplisments in this respect and on our behalf. America should always stand for what is good and pure in life. The right to be free and the right to the absolute truth at all times. Mr. Giuliani stood up, raised his voice against the Teamsters Union and made truth and justice in America more real than ever before. We now need to finish the job and remove the Teamsters from our great nation, once and for all. To the day that I die, I do swear!

Annonymous in Cincinnati OH hit the nail on the head, sure there was probably some graft in the upper echelons of IBC, but as a whole we were doing pretty good, even when we bought Langendorf here in L.A. The cake, and bread (Weber's/Millbrook) divisions were doing great until we bought Continental, that's when the real problems started. I know because I heard the same complaints from the Hostess, Wonder and Di-Carlo (when they were separate) drivers under Continental, a bunch of imbecils running the show. IBC bought a sinking ship (Continental) and it took them down, it may be a tough pill for you Continental folk to swallow, but it is the truth.

Comment: I said it once and I will say it again... It is pretty stupid to assume buying a company like "Wonder"/"Hostess" ruined a big company like IBC. Stop playing the blame game. The problem IBC is in was caused by a lot more than what appears to be on the outside. ________________________________________________________________________ Read this news report: SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Interstate Bakeries late Friday filed an 8-K with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission containing preliminary unaudited financial results the first quarter of fiscal 2005 and reiterating previously released preliminary numbers for fiscal 2004. But the Kansas City, Mo.-based baked goods wholesaler said it was still unable to file its 2004 10-K and did not know if and when it would file the report. Interstate cited a review of the proper accounting treatment for a defined benefit pension plan. The company contributes to the plan on behalf of 900 of its 32,000 employees. The maker of Hostess Twinkies and Wonder Bread filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in late September, citing liquidity issues resulting from declining sales, a high fixed-cost structure, excess industry capacity, rising health-care and pension expenses, and higher costs for ingredients and energy. . For the quarter ended Aug. 21, Interstate reported an unaudited preliminary net loss of $16.9 million. That compared with earnings of $11.2 million in the same period a year earlier. The company said it expects its actual first-quarter results, once finalized, will include asset impairment charges related to its evaluation of the carrying value of its assets due to its bankruptcy filing and in response to its fiscal 2005 financial performance. The results may also include the impact of a change to the accounting treatment for its pension plan. If you open your eyes and mind a little more, you can see the problem runs deeper than a bad buy. :D Disclosure: I do not work for IBC nor have I ever worked for IBC, therefore I am completely impartial. I am only trying to point out the obvious.

Comment: RE: To all our IBC depression-laden employees! Look to your state laws for guidance concerning your legal rights and responsibilities in work-related injuries under this subject. Example: California's workers compensation law dictates you have to have no less than 6 months employment before filing a claim for work- related stress in order to have it even considered as a valid claim! This particular type of work injury is one of the most litigated areas of workers compensation law irrespective of which state it is filed in. They are being made, by law, almost impossible to claim and thereafter to prove solely because they are among the most severe and prolonged type of injury one can sustain and one of the most expensive to treat and to attempt to cure. What you need to know is that you do not want to have to deal with this type of injury either on or off the job. The sad part is that most people with this type of injury are not aware of it. Clinical Depression, is the term. At times, it is incurable and it can kill you! And that is the good news! I won't mention the bad part.

Are you people STUPID or what? Management does not care about the employees. They will close or layoff anyone and do what ever it takes to insure their own personal survival. They will not tell you until the day of closure because they have no honor or respect for others. They are driven by the almighty dollar and respect no other. Shame on them.

Comment: It's pretty sad that a Millbrook employee needs to ask the public for information concerning his employer and if they are going to have a job next week or not. Like any business, Smart and Final needs to know that they will have products next week to sell. IBC is in bankruptcy and does not know if they will continue to be in business the end of this week much less next week! Do you get the picture, Millbrook employee of the moment!

Comment: According to a news article today, the continuing feud between Oracle and PeopleSoft creates more business for one of the biggest computer application players in the world known as SAP-AG, based in Germany. Yes, this appears to be one and the same as the SAP based-program running at your local IBC place of work. How lovely! Now if they would only let us know what happened to the hundreds of millions of dollars in cash money missing at IBC, we can then remove ourselves out of bankruptcy. How about it SAP? Show us our money or take a hike!

Comment: IBC "Cold Wind" news report for Dec. 10, 2004@ 8:05PM EST.... Interstate Bakeries Reports taking a $16.9M Loss for their first Quarter ending 08-21-04 (Yes, that's one-quarter which equals 3 months!) Losing almost $17 million (in the prior quarter) before filing for bankruptcy protection in September 2004, is not really good news for this company. Last year they earned $11.2 millon in the same period! How can you lose this much money in 3 months? An amount that really is $28 millon dollars overall. Well, according to them, it's all in their heads and their accounting departments. Check it out! Log on to www.theday.com, to read the article for yourself under the business section. We are well past Stupid, here folks!

ATTEN Ding DONG I need to know what building you are currently constructing so I can let people know that is is made by a non union contractor, you non, the non union contractor who has to work outside of the union because of a possible DUI conviction, or maybe you are the type who beat his wife and had to go to jail for the weekend and lost your union job. Well, congrats on your 35 dollar an hour job, make sure you work slow, last I heard, NV construction was dominated by UNIONS, just make sure that if you get sick, I "hope your healthy" work plan kicks in with a bottle of Niquil. Oh, whats that...the Semi is loaded, and there is snow on the Vine, gotta go, Love that Union WAGE.

Comment: Why would I or anyone else be jealous of you???? I can retire before I hit 40. I live Very comfortably now and when I do retire, I will have more than just 35 - 40,000 pension a year. Honestly, the way the economy is going, 40, 000 a year on a pension is ok, but not great.
