I purchased a loaf of the wonder light wheat low fat bread last week and today when I opened it for the first time I found it to be extremely moldy. I looked at the date on the package and it is July 30 My home is air conditioned so it isn?t that it gets that hot in here. I have had this happen with your products so many times and most of the time I?ve found the product to be spoiled before the date on the package. I?ve always taken the loss because I have never wanted to take the time to deal with it. However, I feel the time has come to bring this to your attention. What are the health effects of trans fats?
Concerns have been raised for several decades that consumption of trans fatty acids might have contributed to the 20th century epidemic of coronary heart disease.2
Metabolic studies have shown that trans fats have adverse effects on blood lipid levels--increasing LDL ("bad") cholesterol while decreasing HDL ("good") cholesterol. This combined effect on the ratio of LDL to HDL cholesterol is double that of saturated fatty acids.3
Trans fats have also been associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease in epidemiologic studies.4
Based on the available metabolic studies, we estimated in a 1994 report that approximately 30,000 premature coronary heart disease deaths annually could be attributable to consumption of trans fatty acids.4
In response to these reports, a 1995 review sponsored by the food industry concluded that the evidence was insufficient to take action and that further research was needed.5 Since that time many more metabolic studies have been conducted and additional prospective epidemiologic studies have been reported.
Because of the weight of the evidence, the FDA has recently issued a proposal for including trans fatty acid content on the food label. One important issue is whether to list trans fat as a separate constituent or to combine it with saturated fat.
What are the arguments for listing trans fat separately from saturated fat?
The combined results of metabolic and epidemiologic studies strongly support an adverse effect of trans fat on risk of CHD. Furthermore, two independent methods of estimation indicate that the adverse effect of trans fat is stronger than that of saturated fat. By our most conservative estimate, replacement of partially hydrogenated fat in the U.S. diet with natural unhydrogenated vegetable oils would prevent approximately 30,000 premature coronary deaths per year, and epidemiologic evidence suggests this number is closer to 100,0000 premature deaths annually. These reductions are higher than what could be achieved with realistic reductions in saturated fat intake.
What alternatives exist to trans fats?
In Europe, producers have responded rapidly to the evidence on effects of trans fats by developing trans-free margarines that are also low in saturated fats.48 More recently, these products have also become available in the U.S., although a large share of the market is still heavily hydrogenated stick margarine.5
It is thus evident that trans-free products are feasible, and that the technical constraints often invoked by the food industry can be overcome. However, out of the trans fatty acids provided by hydrogenated vegetable oil in the U.S., only 25%5 to 37%49 comes from margarines, the remainder comes from baked goods, fast foods and other prepared foods. Replacement of trans in such products by healthier fats may be more difficult than in margarines, but can be achieved.
In spite of this, many products including most baked goods and fried fast foods still are made with partially hydrogenated fat both in Europe and in the U.S. and are high in trans fatty acids. It is unlikely that this situation will change without strong federal regulations.

What is the problem? I keep it at room temperature (as your package
states)in an airconditioned house and it molds. When the first loaf molded

i run a bread and cake route on the average each week I am short 800 to 1000 dollars
worth of product each week this is a issue that needs to be addressed and in a hurry
or there will be more plant closings upper management isnt too worried the got their
little paychecks but it is the backbreakers that will suffer because plant managers
are not too concerned if they spent more time worrying about making sure products
are baked properly and all the cake items are shipped and shipped without being
damaged the sales dept would do the rest and then you would see profits shoot through the roof it seems to me that the energy that management has is spent on
trying to aggrevate the routeman we are what the custormer sees our attitude refects
on what the people think of our product you think we have got it made but a lot of but
kissing goes on just for us to make a dollar all I want to see in changes is that we get all of our product and it gets to us in good shape on a regular basis when that
happens then you can aggrevate the routeman all you want because I feel that once you get shipping strait you will see sales go up then you will want to leave us alone

One of the problems is some employees lying to management and trying to get other employees in trouble.Another problem is cussing by some employees at other employees.Some other problems are gaps in communication between employer and employees. What im also saying is if a person does a good job why are they still bothered by some managers sometimes.IS it a power trip?????? And why is it so hot in plant 17 sometimes reaching up tp 100 degrees????? Maybe its about time to consider giving more time off if possible to workers.Also plant 17 does not promote their best people perhaps due to the reason that the management only wants people that they think will cover for them. Comment: Interstate Brands Corporation has decided that Market Conditions have forced them to make the difficult decision to close the following distribution locations and has entered into an agreement with US Bakery to handle Hostess distribution in the affected areas: Port Angeles, Aberdeen, Omak, Wenatchee, Grand Coulee, Sandpoint, Lewiston, Walla Walla, Hermiston, Kennewick, The Dalles, Redmond (Bend), Klamath Falls, Medford, Roseburg, Coos Bay, Springfield, Newport, and Warrenton. The above-mentioned areas will no longer have Home Pride or Wonder Bread available to the consumers there. I was told IBC bought the Wonder/Hostess brands to have a national brand and to build those brands. They gave up!!! Threw in the towel!!
The effective date is August 16, 2004. As you see it is quite a large area, and a big suprise to all of the 150 plus employees involved.

We recently purchased a loaf of Wonder Light Italian bread, date stamped July 25th that tasted as though it was still raw. We purchase this bread often and I am always pleased with the freshness. As I opened this loaf, the moment your fingers touched the bread it turned to dough. I threw away the entire loaf, which is one of the most expensive breads in the store that we shop regularly. I AM WRITING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT YOUR MILLBROOK HOMESTYLE SLICED WHEAT BREAD.

FIRST OFF THE BREAD IS ALWAYS IRREGULAR IN SIZE AND SHAPE. I EVEN WONDER IF IT IS UNDERWEIGHT. SOMETIMES IT IS VERY FRESH FEELING BUT MOST OF THE TIME IT IS STALE.
BUT THE MOST DISTURBING PART IS THAT IT DOESN'T EVEN STAY FRESH TO THE EXPIRATION DATE. INFACT HE HAS BOUGHT ME BREAD THAT STILL HAD 7 DAYS EXPIRATION AND IT HAS MOLD ALL OVER IT. I THREW AWAY 4 LOAVES LAST WEEK. ALL WITHIN THEIR EXPIRATION DATES.
I AM DISGUSTED AT THE WASTE. MY HOME IS NOT TOO WARM AND I HAVE EVEN TRIED PUTTING IT IN THE REFRIGERATOR TO MAKE IT LAST LONGER.
I COULDN'T OR EVEN WOULDN'T GIVE IT AWAY.

I would like to complain about the condition of all of the Chocolate Frosted Donettes at the Forward's convenience in Rose City, Michigan. I stop each morning on my way to work and purchase a pack of these along with my diet coke. For the past couple of weeks, all of the chocolate is melted and the donuts are all stuck together. I feel that your distributor should care more about your products and should keep the products that will melt out of the sun and out of a hot warehouse. There's got to be a way to keep them in tip top shape. If they are going to be melted then you should discount them. Like I said, I buy a package of them each and every morning on my way to work and they are just not in good condition and haven't been for the past couple of weeks. |

Last week, I purchased Light Hot Dog Rolls at my local Acme store on West Chester Pike in Newtown Square, PA. I'd been requesting for several months) that Acme carry the light rolls, and they assured me that they would pass the request on to the bread man. Needless to say, I was thrilled to find one lonley pack of the hd rolls on the shelf. I grabbed them and threw them in the freezer when I got home. Yesterday I brought several to work for lunch---guess what? They were moldy. I like your products and use them regularly, but lately have been disgusted that the light wheat bread has been stale and the rolls unavialable (or moldy).
Is this a distribution problem or a store problem.

I purchase a package of the Hostess Frosted Donettes each morning on my way to work. I would like you to know that whoever distributes your product to Forward's in Rose City, MI needs to keep the product out of the heat somehow. All of the chocolate frosting is melted and the donuts are all stuck together. It's not just a couple of packages like that either, it's all of them. I've noticed this problem for the last couple of weeks. I brought my pack into work with me today and a co-worker wanted to know how many days I had left them in my car but I told her that I just bought them this morning on my way to work. I purchased a Bear Claw at our local BP Gas Station in June of this year. It has an expiration date of JUN25 and the number of 53G156 on it.
When I opened this package and broke a piece off the "cheese" filling looked like plaster, felt like plaster and I really can't explain how terrible it tasted. I was so very disappointed in the quality of this Dolly Madison treat.
I also wanted to mention to you that here in our area a Bear Claw has nuts (pecans and almonds) in it with other ingredients, not only was this Bear Claw horrible it really wasn't a Bear Claw.

I just purchased several packs of the Hostess Cinnamon Sweet Rools 12.75 oz package. To my surprise I got several rasions in the package i opened. By the way the package made no mention of containing raison, thus i figured them to be plain. Both myself and my two young children love the cinnamon buns but were sad to see the raisons in the package.
i'm afraid to see what the other packages will yield. Being that I'm a single parent, cost is a big concern to me. My one child is not allowed to have items with raisons in it due to allergies.
I thought I'd let you know of the mispackaging of these buns.

I recently purchased a Hostess Lemon Fruit Pie on 7/9/04. The date on the package reflected 7/15/04 with a UPC code of 0 450290 2. The 0 in front of the 4 and the 2 after the 0 are very small numbers compared to the six in the middle so I was not sure if you needed all of them.
Anyway, I paid $1.09 and the pie was clearly old and outdated. As soon as I bit into it the fruit was not creamy at all but rubbery. It was terrible. I have been buying Hostess Fruit Pies for years and never came across something like this. What is the expected life on these types of pies compared to the date reflected? That way I will ensure my next purchase is a month in advance rather than 6 days. |

I LOVE Hostess chocolate cupcakes, LOVE them. I try not to LOVE them too often because I enjoy being a size 4. So today, when I indulgently bought a pair of soft, beautiful, luscious cupcakes and chomped down on the first one, after carefully removing it from the package in such a way as to ensure NO icing AT ALL slipped off the cake and adhered to the celophane, mostly because licking celophane in front of my boss is embarrassing, I was SHOCKED to discover bite after bite... no "creamy filling", none, zip, EMPTY. YIKES, right? So, I thought, maybe it's just this one, and the cake part tastes good enough so I finished it and promptly bit into the next. But, to my horror and amazement discovered it too was... FILLINGless! |

What have you done to these confectioneries?
The recipe has been changed and the cakes are oily and the filling bland. Every so often I indulge and the orange cupcakes and these apple spice cakes are (or were) my favorites. Now, these products are paste-like in one's mouth and lack the texture of the previous recipes or ingredients. You've even tampered with the Twinkies!
I wish I could tell you that I would purchase your line of pastry products but I cannot state so. They do not satisfy.

I purchased a loaf of Home Pride wheat bread at the end of March 2004. It is now July 13, 2004 and we have kept this bread as a little experiment because it has no mold on it and is still soft and looks fresh. It is tied up like any other bread would be with the little twisty tie, not very tightly either. It sits in our office at work on a bookshelf and after hours it gets very hot and humid in here. Comment: To everyone in IBC land, I can tell you that the "new" management teams are nothing more than the same people making the same poor decisions. Two examples: First our esteemed management team had two of our agency managers delivering empty transport racks to accomodate the increased amount of product we were being added for Memorial day weekend. Our transport drivers spent countless hours sitting in Toledo waiting for their loads because production had no racks to put product on. When we raised this point with our "new" manager, and that it would have made more sense for our agency managers to be delivering full racksof PL bread and buns (and avoiding having to handle the product three times) he said that we should not F***ing worry about what he decided. He then made reference to how his "truck drivers" needed to just do their job and stay out of his way.
Secondly, our new area sales manager is absolutely convinced that Rite-Aid Pharmacies are a great place for us to sell bread in. He is convinced that by increasing our visibility we will increase our frequency of purchase in our traditional grocery stores. I have tried to tell him that if this were the case, McDonalds, a twenty plus billion dollar company would have never abandoned their Mcexpress concept, shed the entire division they created to run it and eliminated all of the jobs that were a part of it. His only response is " We're different though" I can only wonder how different losing money looks to accountants and shareholders.
An additional comment is to the crews loading our transports in Toledo. First, here in Grand Rapids we do not service nor have we ever serviced Martin's stores.so please quit sending it to us as overbake and excess, because our loaders have nowhere to go with it. (We don't have a triftstore to give it to, unless the route people take it for a ride first and drop it off with their returns) Secondly, please figure out some way of telling us what we will not be receiving on our other loads. If we are short staple itmes, and will not get them later, our loaders need to account for the missing product and cut the routes accordingly. There is nothing worse than having to unload bread from trucks, just to load it onto another one.
To everyone out there, start e-mailing the members of the board of directors and tell them what you need to satisfy your customers. Encourage your customers to do the same. |

I bought a hostess fruit filled pie (apple) from the vending machine at school on july 6th.
When i opened the package and broke off a piece of the pie i found mold groing on the inside of the pie. I thought that maybe it was out dated but it wasnt. The date on the package reads 1B 07 177 JUL 14. I am glad that i had found this before someone who is allergic to mold/pennicillin. I would recommend pulling all the ones that have this code and date on it from where ever they are, before someone who is highly allergic to mold would ingest and could be life threating.

I am another one of those DOLLY MADISON "addicts" for the mini powered donuts. I have thought about writing and kept thinking it was a fluke but I purchased another "more than 3 dozen" donuts (powdered} with a last sale date of July 7th and a code of C52171. This is at LEAST the second bag of these where the donuts are dryish (not completely dry but close) and crumbly. Inside the bag there would be about 5 or 6 of the donuts crumbled. I live in Melbourne Florida and my very favorite snack food is the sweet sixteen powdered donuts. I have been very upset when I shopped the Wal-mart nearest to my home the donuts I purchased and brought home were very well in date but the donuts were very moist and kind of yuck. The next time I went shopping I went to a different Wal-mart on the other side of town and the donuts there were so obviously wet in the bag I didn?t even bother to purchase them. The same story also goes for both my neighborhood Publix supermarkets which leads me to believe that it comes down to the distributor. |

A. You contradicted yourself, they do read this site and you gave proof in this lengthy sentence.
B. No one should be concerned , why, because management does not give a Sh*t?
C. Its the same complaints commenting about stale, moldy, bug infested products produced by employees who are mistreated by management who cooked the books and backstab their fellow managers to get ahead in the company,

Note to all of you out there
Again if you don?t like your jobs then quit and find a new one, life is too short to work for people that don?t care anything about you or your opinion. IBC only takes advantage of the weak and brainless and if you continue to work for them that means you one or the other.
To the gentlemen that talks about spelling needs to understand that sometime people that lived in the same country their whole life spell better then some of us that just moved here10 years ago. If you base you level of indigence on spelling you must be doing really well with your life. So I take it that you don?t work for IBC and don?t need to read this crap on here. I found this website looking for information on IBC to invest in the company and stumbled across this site. So who is the sorry looser now you who must have been to collage and earned a degree working in a job that you can?t stand or me who is a stock holder that is living off of your hard work? hmmmm.
I have work a lot of jobs and lived in a country that didn?t care about anyone but themselves and I moved on without getting on a website and complaining about something I can not change, get on with you life and find a job that you do like it is all in you hands. When I first came to this country I worked for IBC for about six months and didn?t like it so I got a better job doing something that I liked.

I just found a web site for Wonder Bread and sent a complaint about the quality of the bread. I was then looking for Butternut Bread to send a similar complaint. Little did I know they're both Interstate Brands products. That might explain why the quality of both products has been less than desirable lately. I think I'll purchase store brands - at least until I find they're also made by Interstate Brands. |

Comment: I would like to know if any of the other bakeries maintenance departments are suffering the same dilemma we do in Indy. Our maintenance budget disappears quickly and we can't buy quality parts to keep our equipment running. Part of the reason being that at the beginning of our new budget period, we are swamped with outside contractors doing work we could do but are strongly encourged or forbidden to perform. These contractors are being paid from $50.00 per hour on up to an amount you would not believe ( over $1,000.00 per hour he claims) to work on systems that fail often and they are called in to correct because regular mechanics/electricians are do not have access to updated prints or changes made to the equipment. Many times we bypass their little improvements to get it running, then if we are fortunate enough to be at the work station when the contractors redo the work, we might be informed what, why and how the changes were perpetrated. Everybody knows outside vendors and contractors mean a strong possiblity of perks and kick backs. And I have noticed our management often passes over well trained job applicants to hire people who have never worked in any type of mechanical, electrical, or skilled trades of any type. I mean NO mechanical ability, couldnt change a flat tire without help. Fact: we have one mechanic who finely had to start using his own tools after 15 years because the guy who did his work for him retired and no one else would carry him. But guys like him help management warrant the use of outside contractors. I think its all and elaborate scheme for $$$ and someone way up in higher management needs to pay attention and do a little personal investigating into some bank accts. They could pay a regular employee on overtime or even doubletime to do the same work and save expense money. But no, we have to run out of budget money and make parts out of scrap metal to keep the place running at the end of every fiscal period, while production hides the numbers on cripples, and maintenance dept. hides equipment downtime to make the head honcho believe he's doing a great job. Everyone gets their bonus while we use more baling wire and duct tape. You guys suffering the same politics we are? |

Comment: IBC is making changes, hopefuly for the better. So far not good. Some non union employees work about 24/7 and work hard. They have to put the job first before family and themselves. These non union people need help but IBC doesn't pay anything but crap so they can't find good people to stick around. The only ones who stick around must financially have to for the time being. Pay people what they are worth and it will open opportunities for job seekers! Good help is hard to acquire and keep so IBC better pay up and start treating employees like humans and not slaves. |

Comment: It seems to me that a Corporation the size of our's, with trained managers and Chief Engineers, Should once step back and look at the potential mess they are creating by allowing the "Inner War" between production and Maitenance personnel with there "Loss Line Time" policy. I honestly can not believe that IBC would want to have a plant managed in this manner!!! It's borders on insanity. If anyone really took the time to take a honest evaluation of the atmosphere in this plant i believe they would find simple and "believable" solutions to most of there disputes.
