our contact over at chicago northside tells of a route being taken off the street. of course, stops spread around, but one guy in particular, the worst route out of the depot, gets no new stops. the guy gets his bread relayed out to his wholesale house, even though it fits on his truck, and who should run the relay-his supervisor. or the supervisor makes the sanitation guy take the bread out-every day. what does this tell you?

Does anyone know if "consolidation" of routes, depots, thrift stores in the other PCs actually meant just shutting everything down? In the other PCs where bakeries closed, are there any thrift stores still open? If no bread is going to be in the NW it seems pretty unlikely that the company would ship fresh bread (with the high cost of fuel) all the way from Billings or wherever, doesn't it?

i'm not very good at this, but here goes: three weeks ago, my 68 year old mom broke her right femur. terrible brake for someone who is a diabetic. the break was so bad, they had to fix it with hardware. after leaving the hospital, she had to go to a rehab center for two weeks to get some therapy. last saturday (oct. 22), she was to be discharged. i pulled into the depot at around 10am, having made all my stops, and sold all my product. my supervisor told me that i couldn't pull in that early, 12:30pm is pull in time. i explained the situation to him, and he said "i don't care, you can't pull in till 12:30. i asked him what i should do. again he said "i don't care what you do, just don't pull in till 12:30". at that point i said to him "i'm here, and i'm going to take my mom home from the hospital". he mentioned something about some guy named dan angst who might be coming around and if he saw my truck in at that time there would be hell to pay. i said to my supervisor to tell mr. angst to call me directly and that i would explain. my supervisor told me that i couldn't talk to him directly. this is a terrible thing that a company who has employees that work as hard as we do, that have family lives have to go through this to do the things that are important. the job is important, yes. but my wife, kids, parents, brothers and sisters are and always will be more important than eddie booker (supervisor) dan angst, bread, jewel, dominiks, walgreens or bread. if i have something important to do, i'm comming in! like it or not! if anyone has a problem with that, too bad.

I have been reading these post for a long time and I have never been compelled to post any thougts, well here you go. What makes any of you think that Tony or anyone at IBC owes you anything. You each get a paycheck for doing your jobs, most are proabably over paid anyone, you probably bitch more than you do your job. Sure, the company has had lousy leadership but they are doing the moves to save the whole. Were you bitching about your job when you bought your house, your new truck, the big screen TV, or the trip to Hawaii, probably not. Hot off the phone with HR. They wanted to know if I was the one who "detailed" exactly how IBC is "paying" to take care of it's legal woes with employee filings. They now have over 60 claims filed in the last 72 hrs. and are going to go back to court and ask for another $2MM dollars to cover these claims. They have received 19 claims of sexual harrassment and are procesing 9 more from today. If my fellow employees want to take a parting-shot at IBC and get paid--FILE TODAY! Well we just got word on the first of the stores to close in Washington state. We are due to arrive a week from Friday (Nov. 4th). There will be teams of 2-3 people going into each location after closing that night to "tear-down" as Flynn put it. They will not disclose the locations early due to the number of "false" worker's comp claims that could be submitted. I advise each of you (Hurt or Not) to file a claim today. This will force us in Mgmt. to keep you on the payroll after the involuntary layoffs. We have empty semi trailers ready to be dropped at each location Friday evening and they would like us to dismantle each and every store in an eight-hour period. There are seven on the first week's list and seven each of the succesive five weeks. I am so sorry to each of you for being the bearer of bad news:( Please take the steps and file your discrimination, sexual harrassment, or disability claims NOW! What the company does not tell you is that after they terminate (involuntary layoff as Jim Flynn puts it) they will NOT investigate the claims. The company has a sliding-scale that only upper management knows about; this scale has been approve by the attorney's and it give a "lump-sum" amount to each person who files a claim; this is to just allow that person to "go away". Discrimination gets the filer $5,000, Sexual harrassment gets the filer $5,000 or $10,000 if it is against a member of management and disability gets between $7,500-$10,000. Yes, this is what the company has set aside to avoid legal costs. Here's the catch though.. They will only pay it to the first 125 people who file in the Northwest profit center--roughly $1.5MM dollars. Don't wait for us, in management, to silently shutter your store. Once we close your store, IBC is off the hook and no one from a closing store in eligible for these "lump" payouts. $10,000 buys you plenty of time to find a new job. Call HR tomorrow and report your injury, discrimination or sexual harrassment ($10,000 if it was by management) DON'T WAIT ANOTHER DAY.. THEY MAY BUMP UP THE TIMETABLE. First and foremost, what is your most important asset? Ans: your employees. Take care of them and they will take care of you. Do not be blinded and just see the production line. You have different departments in your plant. Please help yourself succeed in your work. See the processes on how we do business and figure out how to improve them and minimize losses. Talk to your worker bees and ask their concerns. Try to improve their working conditions i.e. working hours, working relationship with their co-workers and especially with their immediate supervisors. Most supervisors do not even know how to talk to their people, let alone lead. Have you ever thought of having a supervisors' seminar? If you are interested in improving their moral, then check what make moral non-exixting. Mr. Ervin, please wake up.

The company also promoted Magill from vice president to executive vice president. On Aug. 10, the company said that increased costs for reorganization and restructuring and decreased sales drove its greater loss for the four weeks that ended June 25 compared with the prior month. For the period, the maker of Wonder Bread and Twinkies reported a loss of $9.1 million, more than three times the loss of $2.8 million for the month that ended May 28. Gross income for the period was $254.4 million, down 6.5 percent from $272.1 million for the prior month. In April, the company said it had begun a review of its 10 regional profit centers. i have mixed feelings about this company. my husband works very hard 12 to 14 hours a day. the pay is good, but we don't see him that much. he is always tired. if he starts a project around the house on sunday, he can't finish it untill wednesday. he can't get a day off to save his life. his supervisor is an idiot. my summation: this company only cares about bread. they do not care about their employees as human beings, or the family situations that surround them. i will begin to ask my husband to look for a better job, one where management believes that an employee should be allowed to put his family first. my husband told me that his supervisor once told him that nothing is more important than the job we do. i have news for him.

A fomer employee of Philadelphia Bakery , I think best GM we had at Philly was Al Colburn he was finanly turning the bakery to a profit and cared about freshness. With all CBC Execs who actually new how to run the show from Larry Batty, Battys phillosophy's are long gone,now we have the Chuck Sullivan slum execs from IBC. IBC couldnt run a bakery before CBC so they thought they could run down CBC and now we see it.................

After suffering all day and standing on our feet, taking a 1 hour break is nothing! We are treated like slaves while management sits on their butts and does nothing. For the pay we make taking an extra hour for breaks is nothing compared to what Alvarez and management get. Alvarez just pushes buttons and closes plants. He doesn't care about us at all. He'll take clients out to lunch all day while we are worked to the bone!! That's unfair! We get paid crappy and management treats us like dogs!

I wonder how the state of Massachusettes is making out trying to retrain the workers in New Bedford. When I tried to explain to them on several occasions that they couldn't sit in the breakroom for an hour because there break was only for fifteen minutes they would file a greivience against me for harrassement. They think that work means to sit in the breakroom and play Pokemon Cards. Gee! and the Bakery went belly up. I can't imagine why.

To anonymous in Lakewood. It actually does not apear that retail locations in Washington and Oregon, will be hit nearly as hard as the other departments. You will remain receiving all of your current cake items in the same manner as always, and bread items will likely be sent in from either Billings or Ogden. I would imagine dislocated and outlying stores wil get the axe, however. Hope this helps.

Re: how do you reach someone by email at an IBC facility? Forget it you will never get a reply try voicemail there is a small chance someone might be checking their voicemail to see if their new employer hired them.
