To Cry Me a River: If you did insult me , then I accept your apology. Some Hostess guy from C.A. is the one that insulted me without justification. Anyways, I know alot of times people agree to disagree. This site is a place to blow off alot of steam and be creative at the same time. If someone wants to comment on any of my statements, they can constructively put me in my place.I am not always right in my posts, but most of the time a little humor goes a long way.Life will continue after I.B.C. I look forward to making $50,000 a year , and working 9-5 at another job. Now, I am getting way to serious.............

Re: when the Lakewood bakery opened over five years ago this new hire told the forman ?if you want me to rebag buns with these dirty hands you better get a manager over here to tell me to do it?. Our hands were dirty black from the trays and racks that sat in storage. The forman got a manager who told the new hire to rebag with his dirty hands, and he did it. The next day the new hire was sent over to the bread tail off belt and has not come back to the bun line during the past five years. Ok Moral of the story: Always wear your gloves, be ready to asist in any part of the plant, if you were my new hire I would have bonced you for insubordination, do as your told be smart enough to go wash up. Have you guys ever heard of nitril gloves like medical kind all our mechnic's keep some to cover thier grundge when we need them to help rack off. WHAT EVER IT TAKES TO GET THE PRODUCT OUT!! use common sense its FREE

Comment: Just here to clear my name before any accusations came out from the post made to Razz; it was not me (seriously). I like to see how far I can push someone?s buttons (just for fun), but not to insult anyone at least, I do not think I did. If I did in any of my posts, I apologize. I like dishing out sarcastic remarks, but only for fun. Really, I have nothing against anyone here...I know for some it?s a place to blow off steam.

Comment: IBC stock prices and in-house losers remain too heavy for Alvarez and his band of fools to lift! The only way Alvarez is going to make things better for IBC is to cut his own throat by resigning now, not later! In fact, I see another class action stock holder lawsuit in the making with Alvarez as their newly appointed CEO and also their BK expert! I want to know how he got the CEO position. What makes him a better choice than others who are more qualified for this position and why the conflict between his job as a CEO and a BK expert! How can an expert on BK help one to turn around a company that runs on goods and services? It can't! And, this is exactly my point! It's time for a new pinch hitter to batter-up rather than to butter-up IBC for the kill!

it's all ralston purina's fault in selling ibc a bill of goods and forcing them to keep the dead wood hostess people who were prima donna's that threw fits if they didn't get thier way or tons of cash. They who threw the biggest fits got the biggest portion of the pie. They were bankrupting purina and then ibc let them slither in and do the same for IBC

The ? one was sealed into the wrapper at the end, making it not completely sealed. The UPS code is 450370. How does something like this happen? I would have thought the machinery would have broke down or jammed. Also I don't feel comfortable in eating the product since it was not completely sealed.

Thats right no money in private label no matter what volume you sell. Unless I am wrong and you have to pay the bakers less to make the p/l, the gas to bake cost less and the ingredients cost less so Weston can have the walmart p/l in florida for 55 cents a loaf. Have fun Arnold how much more are you making

Comment: I worked for IBC-Merita in NC for 14 years, and to be perfectly honest with all of you current employees, I am not surprised to see the company going under. Since the CBC buyout, the company has done nothing but go downhill. I know that the last 2 years that I worked for IBC were the worst years of my life. The brass killed the old motto of "Sell today's bread today", and "Baked while you sleep". They changed to "Sell today's bread sometime this week or next", and "Baked then frozen while you sleep". I really hate it for you guys/gals that are stuck in all of this mess going on now. Hopefully the competition will hire most of the ones that are going to be let go in the upcoming months.

To Anon in Philly:You could not be closer to the truth, but alot of us will have new jobs come august. With direct/ship on the horizon, this company will not be worth working for anymore. It is not only Walmart asking for direct/ship.C-store chains are asking for and receiving this type service from other companies. This is not a new concept, but these stores wil once again try this through their grocery delivery system. I was talking to a mgr. from a nationwide C-store chain this past week. I asked if it was working out well. The response was that they had run out of product, because not enough was ordered. The next week the product was not shipped from the warehouse. It is bad enough when we are short on load. What do these stores do when their truck only comes 1-2 times a week. They will lose customers and sales. These are impulse items that need to be stocked and rotated. We all know customers will shop elsewhere for product. Walmart are you listening.

In fact he is doing none of this and we know him for the rat he is. What's more important is Alvarez is going out of business faster than a speeding bullet when it comes to his own line of business by bullshit because there are over 34,000 IBC employees and several thousand more family members ready to inform his next BK victims about BK by Alvarez and the truth!

To Doopie, R I L Z, Puddin', Capt. C, & T the K (who is sadly missed) and also to ALL of the other employees who work hard for this Co.-Have a fantastic Memorial Day weekend. Enjoy your families, BBQ's, fishing, etc. and let all of your worries go for a while. Let's all pause and think about those who have defended our country and others, sometimes losing life or limb to do so. I am truly grateful for all of them and the sacrifices they have made to protect us all. Like my dad, one of the dwindling number of WW2 vets, who also served in Korea and Vietnam, and for a while in the Royal Air Force..these people deserve our love and respect. Happy weekend all of you!! Make your time with family count.

I'm with you Buffalo NY wife, same story in my household. There have been entire weeks that go by where our kids don't see their dad at all. When he does get a day off, he is so exhausted he nods off during any family activities we try to do. This company used to have a great product and a great reputation. Hostess/Wonder Bread was a part of American life for years. I can't believe they are running it into the ground the way they are. Let the employees buy out the company and run it the way it used to be, with pride.

I am a wife of a route salesman that has worked his ass off for this company for 13 years. I watched him go to work with a broken arm, pulled muscles, sometimes sicker then a dog. Not once has he ever missed a day. He comes home sometimes so exhausted all he does is grab a bite to eat and then he falls asleep without getting a chance to see his kids. And for what? This company and its management is a joke. This company should at least be honest with these men who go out and put their product on the shelves of all these stores, but they come into town and give them a line of shit and lie to them. They don't have the decency to tell them the truth. Maybe now these men will get a chance to work for a company that will appreciate what they do and how hard they work.

As long as we're being honest here, I will tell you that I am 5'5", I weigh 125lbs. and my measurements can be found further back on this site when I set another idiot straight who tried to pull the "I bet you're fat" line. I do not eat Twinkies, or any other of the so called snack products, and for good reason. I have an AutoImmune Disease (look it up) and I can't eat any fatty foods. So please come up with a better diss. I spend all of an hour on the net each day, answering e mails and TCB. Thank you for your concern about my weight though. It was very sweet of you. My REAL husband is a route driver here in the NW, with a great big grin on his face. So if that was an attempt at a proposal, I have to say NO. Thanks anyway. Hey Razz, what do you think??

My opinion is slavery has been abolished long ago, black or white or brown or whatever. Last time i looked this country is still America and not some communist or dictatorship where you will be punished or even killed for speaking your opinion. Group together and talk to a lawyer to see if your human rights were violated under our constitution and file a lawsuit. You are intitled to express your opnion and should not have to be held hostage by your employer. Fight back and stick up for your right of free expression. To do nothing is to accept defeat and corporate america will have it their way. And you the worker will remain a slave to the system. Exersize your rights of free speech. Keep America free.

The rebagging of rolls on a holiday has been going on for over 20 years. At the old Chicago south plant when we used up all our freezer stock and Domincs Nancy Martin wanted more we gave them what ever we could find. Why would one want to bring it up now, At least they are selling.

as an IBC employee, this company really seems to be cutting it's own throat.... poor management decisions will be the cause of the fate of the company. No company will ever survive when they begin cutting at the bottom. Complete managment restructuring is the only thing that can save this company. Quality has gone downhill, and now pulling out of profitable areas and making routes impossible to run will only further the situation IBC has found itself in. When a company can lie to their employees such as they did today (saying they know nothing, yet had already sent a letter to the unions stating exactly which branches were closing) it's hard to wonder how you have worked for and been loyal to them for so long

7 branches notified of closing today ,effective date july 31st. they will leave 3 of the buffalo branches open, bflo, roch @ Syr. the dummys think they can keep some of the outlying areas and run out of those branches that are left. It's been tried, don't work and can't keep people on those routes, safety is the major factor, the IBC idiots don't care but when someone get's killed I hope they get their ass in a jam. another quantum leap, how many will die running a 16 hour routes going 200 miles per day. With 60 routes left you need 6 div sales mgrs. period. I assume the management team of: MH, MC,AP,TR@RC probably will be sent out to pasture after they complete the dirty work of laying out the new routes. I also understand massive cuts in those 3 branches, $200 stops and P/L are gone, projected route average $3000 per week with 30% returns. Each and every day they prove that they have not a single clue, MH has not even been to most of those brances and can only get from LP to the plant and some days he get's lost just doing that. For some of the guys I feel bad but fate always takes care of the dirtbags, you know who you are? P.S> Packers are gone also...

Are you thinking about all the money you will make or all the money you might lose Where are you presently on the IBC food chain? Are you on the top or quite a bit lower? Are you acting on insider information or just guessing? Have you spoke with Alvarez or his hired guns personally or just in your dreams? Are you young enough to start over in your life should IBC go belly up instead? My advice is to take a long walk around your neighborhood. Then return home and thank your lucky stars you did not give in to greed and buy it! Let Alvarez have it all!

If nobody leaves a name on the post I dont read them. If Phily is going to close that means ibc is pulling out of the NE Jamacia cannot get enough product out to pickup the slack of buffalo and new bedford. I think that they are done closing bakeries in the NE for now. As Employees we should just go do our job and leave it at that. We cannot control what they are going to do. There is no sense getting hostile towards each other. I wish only the best for those who will be laid off(I too could be one), but remember, when one door closes another may open(with normal hours). I enjoy my job very much and if I lose it I will be upset. Its only bread

You and I know he has difficulty getting his stock to rise and then keeping it up long enough to make our effort of watching him worthwhile! It's kind of like watching mating Elephants. Everything is done on a higher level, it's accomplished only after a great deal of roaring and screaming and it takes two years or more to get notable results!

I don't know where people get their information from but as of 11:30am today May 26th, the Philly plant is remaining open. I have no idea of what the 60 day notice is. I read on the other messageboard where the person said that they were told yesterday they have 60 days. The funny thing is that everyone I talk to at Philly said they were not told this. I want to know just who told this person this . Personally, I think people start rumors just to get things going. If anyone seen the article in the Philly paper the company said Philly was not closing, that they were going to be sharing the work of the Bedford plant along with Bidderford and Jamaica. The company also posted notices in the plant about staying open so I would really like to know where that person got their info. Maybe the company is finally weeding out the people who are the least productive and they were given 60 days. Who knows? But before you all get so excited about Philly closing I would wait and see just what happens.

Comment: Proposed loan amendments help IBC rise in the eyes of investors By JENNIFER MANN The Kansas City Star Interstate Bakeries Corp. stock jumped 11.6 percent Monday to $6.25 a share after the company, which is operating under bankruptcy, released details of proposed amendments to its bank loans. The amendments, the third since the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy court protection from creditors last September, gave some details on expected levels of financial performance through Sept. 23, 2006. Those were the first such minimum projections the company has revealed since it filed bankruptcy. For instance, by Sept. 23, 2006, Interstate should have no less than $111.5 million in cumulative consolidated earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization ? a measure of cash flow. The amendments also spell out other financial details, including limits on Interstate's capital spending for this year. Those limits include a cap of $20 million between May 29 and Aug. 20, and $21.5 million between Aug. 21 and Nov. 12. The company said it hoped to have the amendments signed by Wednesday with its bank group, led by JPMorgan Chase Bank N.A., which agreed to lend the Kansas City-based baking company up to $200 million through its Chapter 11 restructuring. Once the amendments are signed, Interstate will have access to all $200 million of the revolving credit agreement. Under the existing agreement, Interstate has had access to $150 million, although it hasn't drawn on the loan. The proposed amendments also would give Interstate, which has not made a required financial filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission since April 2004, until the end of the year to catch up on its filings. Interstate, known for its Wonder bread and Hostess Twinkies, filed for protection from its creditors after experiencing a liquidity crisis, caused in part by declining sales and escalating fixed costs. So far, the company has announced consolidation plans for three of its 10 profit centers, which, when completed by mid-August, will have reduced its work force more than 10 percent from the 32,000 workers it had when it filed. This was posted Tuesday (05-24-05)therefore, it is old news now. However, I thought maybe some of you might like to read this. Not sure if this is good news or bad news for you guys, but at least it is some news.

Now, they are only good for bringing in some dollars , so they can make payroll. If they were making a profit , we could shut down all the routes and open thrifstores nationwide. Wow, I will have to put that in the suggestion box. Oh, that's right, we do not have one.I have been told that some of the leases were at $5,000 a month. I guess, the person leasing the building is making a profit.Have a nice Holiday!Anyone, feel free to comment on this. I know mgt. reads these posts, just like the rest of us.

cutting that many routes is not the answer, the drivers will never get the stops done, alot of the stops in southern calif. are 6-10,or 7-11,no way can a driver get 10-15 chain stores done in 4 hours and fight all the traffic, let alone a full truck of product(wonder and millbrook on the same truck)accidents will be up,overtime will be out of sight, and service will go down, how can a salesman put up displays, sticker product, rotate properly, and get on there way ,just wait until the big holidays hit, there is no way to load your truck and hit all those stops, cutting over half the routes will kill this company(maybe this is what they want)tony needs to look at contact men,too many dead beat supervisors, and then the final thing to do is random drug testing, over half the drivers would be gone....

Comment: Everytime IBC cuts or changes anything including their daily bread deliveries, it has an impact on how they do business. The cause and affect of cutting and consolidating these runs comes to mean more products (business) delivered on less trucks, by less employees, and with no time available to make all their stops before these accounts close for the day. Basically, it's 9 to 5 in the business world and most accounts want you in and out of their place by noon. Doing the math and accounting for state and federal labor laws (meal and rest stops) this means you have about 6 hours of time before overtime hits you and your stops start to close for the day! Now you are a hunderd miles out from your point of origin and need to drive two more hours before you can clock out and go home. And, what are you going to do with all the stuff you failed to deliver which, by the way is still sitting on your truck and going stale real quick! Call Alvarez, that's what! Tell him to get your truck unloaded before your next day of work.

Comment: Come this Memorial Day week-end, IBC is going to absolutely explode across America! They can bake and freeze all their products hoping to fill and to deliver all their orders at the very last second but they can't fool Mother Nature! Frozen baked goods are not nutritional or tasty! And when people find out that all private labels baked by IBC for major chain stores including Albertsons are frozen weeks in advance of holidays before delivery, then it's good-bye private label business for IBC and hello BK Chapter 7! For consumers of IBC products today, it is now really a case of what they don't know is what will come to likely kill them later!

Good Employees Giving Up. I Hate To Say This To All My Brothers And Sisters Here At The Plant We Give It Our Best, But Sometimes That?s Just Not Enough. Good Luck Too All And I Wish The Rest Of IBC?s Employees Good Luck. Happy Holiday

If IBC could be compared to Star Wars would Tony A. be Darth Vader or the Evil Emporer? Stockholder is definitely part of the evil Empire. Just remember Stockloser if it wasn't for as you say "overpaid delivery boys" like me who go out and bust our butts for unappreciative people like you, you would'nt have a stock to watch. just remeber what goes around comes around you shall reap what you sow!!

Comment: I am a 53 year old female professional that has had one guilty pleasure since childhood? Hostess Cherry Fruit Pies. Ever conscious of my waistline, particularly at my age, I ration my ?treats? very carefully. The one indulgence I allow myself is one of my beloved cherry pies and a good cup of coffee every Monday morning on the way to work. Lately, I have been increasingly disappointed in your product. The crusts are increasingly stale, hard and dry and there is very little filling. The filling that is there resembles a thick, rubbery goo more than the plump fruit filling I used to enjoy. When I first started noticing the difference, I thought perhaps it was simply a stale pie left on the rack. Then I started paying attention to the dates and always bought pies at least a week or two from the expiration date. It didn?t seem to matter at all. I don?t normally complain about products and prefer to simply stop purchasing them but the Hostess brand has always been so well trusted in my home and I am so disappointed that I had to say something. As for my Monday morning ritual, I guess I?ll switch to coffee and a Dixie Cream.

Comment: On May 20, 2005 I stopped at the Mobil gas station next door to work and purchased a box of Powdered Donettes (DC May26 701285). Although the donuts had not passed the expiration date, they were extremely dry and hard. I have been buying your products for a long time and am normally very satisfied, however, today that was not the case. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. Hopefully someone else will not have to eat stale donuts for breakfast.

Comment: To whom it may concern, I recently purchased a package of your powdered doughnuts from one of our vending machines at my work place. After the second doughnut I noticed a strange taste, and thought maybe it was my imagination, but the third was even worse yet. I did have a few individuals smell the doughnuts and they too noticed a strange smell, chemically in nature. A few minutes later I became very sick to my stomach and began to vomit almost uncontrollably. That was two days ago and am I still sick. I did go to the doctor and was given a charcoal treatment to help remove any possible toxins from my digestive system and blood stream. I am now considering pursuing some other means of restitution.

Comment: I heard that several Coca Cola plants in several states including Los Angeles, were under siege by the Teamsters Union. Apparently, following the financial beating their members took when they walked off the job at Von's and Albertsons markets during the past grocery strike in California for store clerks failed to teach them a lesson in economics and leadership! The Teamsters have been selling their members for years to employers and word of this has been getting around. When the Teamsters call a strike today, their members are the ones who take the hit, not the so-called union leaders. Their fat paychecks keep rolling in no matter what. The Teamsters and other labor unions today, just don't get it. Times have changed and people today don't want to give their legal rights over to some labor union or other corrupt organization like them.

Mgt performance bonuses will be paid in two intstallments: The initial 50 percent is payable on the earlier of Aug. 15, 2005 or the date upon which the fiscal 2005 financial statements are completed. The final installment is payable 30 days after the effective date of the plan of reorganization. The restructuring bonus is based on the assumption that IBC will acieve a target EBITDAR for fiscal 2005. If the target is reached certain salaried personnel will be a percentage, 5% - 10%- 20% 40%, etc. of their salary as a payment.

Comment: Everytime Alvarez closes a facility which produces corporate income, IBC's bottom line takes a hit and gross sales fall off! Everytime Alvarez closes a facility which produces corporate income, additional closing costs in the millions are spent needlessly and IBC's bottom line takes an even larger hit! Everytime Alvarez closes a facility which produces corporate income means he no longer has those game pieces to play with and he hands-off a golden spoon of opportunity over to his enemies and marketplace opponents! Alvarez is trying to hide behind a wall of bankruptcy, yet conduct his business on a day to day basis as though nothing has happened. Sorry Alvarez! You simply cannot have your cake and eat it too!   Comment: There was an article in our local Philadelphia paper on friday May 20th. It reads as follows: Interstate Bakeries Corp.'s Northeast Philadelphia Bakery- where Wonder and Hostess products are made - will remain open under a consolidation announced by the Kansas City, MO company that has been operating under Bankruptcy Court protection since Sept. Interstate will close a bakery in New Bedford, MA and split its production among Philadelphia, Jamaica, NY and Bidderford, ME company spokeswoman Maya Pogoda said. The consolication will also affect delivery routes, depots and thrift stores in the Northeastern states. The restructuring, which the company hopes to complete by mid-August, is expected to eliminate 1400 of the company's 5472 jobs in the U.S. Northeast, Pogoda said. She said that for competitive reasons, the company would not disclose details about the elimination of delivery routes in the Philadelphia region. Teamsters Local 263 represents about 325 drivers associated with the Philadelphia plant, said Rich Deal, a union official. The bakery has 245 union and 21 nonunion employes, Pogoda said.

To Roy S: It seems to me that the company was the one that was found guilty of discrimination. Lawbreaking companies like Enron, MCI, or IBC NEED to be held resposible for their illegal actions. What did the employees in the picture do wrong? Defend themselves against being harassed or discriminated against? IBC should not be able to single out you, me, or them in any way. The company did wrong, not the employees trying to defend their rights. If IBC lost money in a lawsuit, then they need to blame themselves, not the employees that they were harassing. If these employees had been white males, everyone would be applauding them, not criticizing.

Comment: There is a Wonder thrift store on 11th St. in Rock Island, IL that I shop at about twice a month. At least I used to. How the girl who works the register in that store was hired baffles me. The last two times I was in there, about 4 PM on a Saturday, the same girl was working. She said NOTHING to me. When she totaled my merchandise, I waited for her to tell me the total. I ended up asking her how much I owed. I gave her the money, she took it, and that was it. No hello, no good bye, no thank you....NOTHING! Does your company teach nothing about customer service? Another thing...she had rap music on the radio she was listening to, which I do not think is appropriate in a business setting. This girl needs to go. I have never experienced such lousy customer service.

Hey Glendale, The reason we STEAL from yhe Thrift Store err Bakery Outlet is because the boys down at the plant can't seem to get the right product to the right Depot!!! Last I checked the "Profit Center" will make more $ selling it at full price then at half price in the errr Outlet. This week we had product missing every day and there was yours, black marked for the store. Now in the future I won't take it and the cash restauraunt stops will be told sorry... and as we lose these no stale accounts I guess we'll be better off with less business and the store putting it on hog feed at the end of the week! ESL effectively put an end to the Thrift Store concept and now you will see that the way the stores are set up now theres no way they can make a profit unless you have high volume 15-20,000 a week and low manhours. how many stores in So Cal fit that bill?

To All Those Who Have Lost Their Jobs My Thoughts Are With You.Good Luck And Godspeed To You All. As For John Y. Brown This Company IS NOT In This Shape Because Of Lack Of Effort From The Workforce. Uppermanagement Was Asleep At The Wheel For Years All The While Lining Their Pockets With The Profits From The Company. You Must Be One Of The Sorry A## Managers And To Say Such A Thing Shows Your Complete And Utter Stupidity And Is An Insult To Those That Have Worked Hard For This Company For Years Only To Be Given A Pink Slip Because Of Incompetance At The Corporate Level.

It seems like the same people BIT@#$ about the same old thing. If you all hate your job so much, Just quit, do us who do care about our jobs a favor. And to those who will post, dont look for a response you wont get one, let me just ask one more question, do all of you who complain on this site put as much effort into your job as complaining about it. I BET NOT! ! ! So on your way out the door, grab some cardboard for the interstate exit ramp, you will need it. To those who lost your job and gave a honest effort, don't worry YOU WONT NEED CARDBOARD.

Comment: It's always better for one to live in a civilized world. People in a civilized world can't kill you or rob you without being held accountable under civilized law! And in a civilized society, people join together for the benefit of all mankind. What's tough about this IBC bankruptcy thing is that their employee's are being made to suffer in silence. We need to express ourselves as employees in a civilized manner! And, if you agree with me that we have a need in this area, we can begin the process right here, starting this very minute. I suggest we collectively display upon ourselves an American flag. It can be sewn on or a cast image. It's purpose will serve to acknowledge silently but strongly that we are not helpless but loyal subjects to civilized order. We don't have to set a date nor protest loudly or at all. The flag upon our person says it all for us! And when we see others at work doing the same, we can feel good about each other and our lives together in America!

Alvarez doesn't care about the regular employee. You gotta love how put's his spin on things telling the press how "hard working" we are. What a joke this guy is. I'm sure he doesn't work hard at all. He sits back and closes plants with a push of button. The man in uncaring and cares only about how much his bonus will be while we don't get raises. IBC is a sinking ship and Alvarez is purposley hitting icebergs. They man has no heart at all. He only wants what best for him, not the common employee. There is a rumor that after he shut down the North Carolina Plant, he went out to celebrate and spend 5,000 on dinner. What an ass!

This is probably his day: 1) Breakfast at some hot shot hotel at our expense. 2) Call for tee time. 3) Close another plant and have his secretary write a letter saying he' sorry. 4) Golf 5) Lunch at some ritzy place. Bottles of wine for all of course. 6) More golf 7) Close another plant. Call Secetary. Same routine. This time though, look at bottom line and smile! More bonus money! 8) Massage 9) Close another plant but tell secretary just to copy and paste old letter. Light up cigar 10) Dinner at our expense. $2,000 gone in minutes. 11) Casino! 12) Strip club 13) Home. Thanks alot Alvarez for not caring. Enjoy the golf!

Comment: Bankrupt Interstate Bakeries on Thursday said it is closing another bakery on the East Coast and cutting 1,400 more jobs in its ongoing effort to cut costs. The Kansas City-based company, maker of lunchbox staples Hostess Twinkies and Wonder Bread, said it will close its bakery in New Bedford, Mass., and consolidate production, delivery routes, depots and thrift stores throughout the Northeast. Interstate Bakeries spokesman Jason Booth told the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram that it was too early to say whether there would be an impact on the company's J.J. Nissen bakery in Biddeford, which employs 590. "At this point, there is no impact that we can discuss," said Booth. "The bakery closure here in New Bedford is the main event of the day." There are 180 people at the New Bedford plant who will lose their jobs, said Booth. The region that will be affected by the restructuring stretches from Washington, D.C., to Maine, he said. Booth noted that as production stops at some plants, it will have to be increased at others. But, he said, he couldn't say if Biddeford would see an increase in work because of the consolidation. In addition to Biddeford, Interstate has regional bakeries in New York and Philadelphia, Booth said. The moves are expected to be complete by mid-August, pending approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Kansas City. "Today's decision is not a reflection on the hard work and efforts of our employees, but is based on what is best for the overall health of the company," said chief executive officer Tony Alvarez, who is also co-CEO of Alvarez & Marsal, the New York-based turnaround firm brought in to steer Interstate Bakeries through reorganization. "Our end goal is to greatly reduce the operating weaknesses and redundancies that continue to hurt our business - to save our company and as many jobs as possible." It was the third plant closing and regional consolidation the company has announced over the last two months, costing a total of about 3,000 jobs. The company also plans to close plants in Miami and Charlotte, N.C., and consolidate operations in Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas and Virginia. Interstate Bakeries says it is reviewing each of its 10 "profit centers" around the country for savings. Company officials said they expect the Northeast closing and consolidation to cost about $17 million, including $7 million in severance payments and $7 million in losses to the value of assets. The company said it expects to spend an additional $4.5 million in other expenses tied to the consolidation. Interstate Bakeries filed for Chapter 11 protection in September, blaming low sales and high fixed operational costs. Since then, the company has reported monthly losses totaling more than $50 million. In its most recent monthly report, Interstate Bakeries said it lost $6.35 million during the four weeks ending April 2, its smallest monthly loss since November. Revenue remained flat at $253.7 million. - Staff writer Matt Wickenheiser contributed to this report.

Comment: IBC is seen pulling up stakes and getting out of New Bedford and other notable towns and cities in America simply because their management can't cut it nor hide it any longer Their competition is killing them in the market place! Basically, with today's technology and speed, IBC is still baking and delivering bread in ovens and trucks manufactured in the 1940's. Their entire management forces are built on bullshit and blood-line hierarchy rules. Any management skills they may have acquired over the years have been reduced to lawsuits and large jury awards. And, as always, IBC stoically maintains they didn't do it! Well, isn't this what most of our prison population advocates? They didn't do it either! Time as we know it, marches on!

You sit here and bi*** and whine about what is happening to your jobs, all the while doing NOTHING to improve the efficiency of your production, nor decreasing the cripples rates you sell as hog feed. Look at what your competitors. namely Flowers have done. They took their money and built 4 state-of-the-art Bread/Bun plants over the last 8 years, and modernized every other one they owned with high speed/low labor production equipment. Is it any wonder their pensions are 600% higher in 7 years. They took unprofitable bakeries and shut them down, while IBC kept lumbering along like the leviathon they are and their labor costs have run them right straight into the crapper. You union guys ought to pat yourselves on the back!! For years you shoved your exorbitant operational costs up the collective asses of your co-workers. Now your chickens have come home to roost, and all you can do is point fingers elsewhere as the cause of your problems, when you SHOULD be looking in the mirror..... It is hard to read the numbers stamped on the plastic bag because it is over the word "bread". It looks like 07 127 0516 C 1235. I was going to get some bread out of the wrapper yesterday, Wednesday, May 17 and most of the pieces were moldy. I have been buying this bread all the time. At $2.31 a loaf and throwing most of the loaf away is pretty wasteful.

Comment: To Whom It May Concern, I bought a Hostess Cherry Pie on May 17th at Jewel Foods and opened it on May 18th. On the pie was some black things stuck the bottom of the pie, which it looked like it was baked into it. I cut off the black things to try to see what they were. I wasn't actually sure what they were. Then I proceeded to cut the pie in half. I believe it was stale since the crust was a bit hard. I noticed on the wrapper the date is Jun04. The number under the date is 00136. The proof of purchase # 450280. I don't think a product like this should have been on the grocery shelf. Should I contact the Jewel Store I purchased this product?? What should I do with the pie?? At this point I'm not sure I would purchase your products again.

Also, keep in mind, PENSION PLANS FOR UNION EMPLOYEES ARE IN JEOPARDY!!!!!!!!!! look what took place at UAL. To take IBC out of bankruptcy, will take much more than just closing bakeries and reducing manpower and benefits. Upper management needs to look at the whole picture AND THEIR OUTRAGEOUS SALARIES.

i would like to say something in defense of all the managers being knocked on this site. here goes: i am a route sales rep. i drive around in a bread truck all day selling the product that pays the salaries of people like jerry kemp, dan ainge, Mr. Dorr, tony izzo and the rest. it also pays for jerry kemp's 2004 buick century, whatever the hell dan, drives, whatever the hell mr. dorr drives, all those ford taurus station wagons that they all drive around in pretending that they are doing work. my bread truck has no heat in the winter, no air conditioning in the summer and half the time it sounds like it;s going to fall apart. we are told that we cannot drive with the door open no matter what ! you get no air, except through the window but that's not enough. district managers, area sales managers, account managers are all overhead ! get rid of all their little perks, like their walkie-talkie cell phones. they want me to use my own cell phone for bread buisness, but they won't pay for it. now, how much does this run per year ? now add that up with all the other managers in all the other bakeries-how much does that come to per year ? i'll bet if they took away all their little perks, they'd quit in a heartbeat ! if they had to drive their own cars, buy their own gas, pay for their own phones, things would be alot different. so stop knocking them ! if you were them, wouldn't you take all you could get. they certainly aren't stupid. so i'll get up tommorow again, and get in my piece-of-shit truck, and freeze in the winter and sweat to death in the summer, inhale the exhaust fumes that come up through the floor. who knows, maybe i'll suffer heat stroke or carbon monoxide poisoning or frostbite one day. but none of that matters as long as randy, jerry, dan, don, the other don, and the rest of that band of cuthroats that are running this company into the ground are nice and toasty, nice and cool, and look good in their nice company logo windshirts, polo shirts, and tassled shoes. oh, and donny o. in his 1973 levi panatella slacks. so come on, the days of the $8500 routes are right around the corner. pound it out ! we have managers to support !!!

Comment: To the clown who ripped Alvarez, What would you like Mr. Alvarez to say? "We are closing down our plants and I don't give shit what the employees think about it" Would that make you happy? He's at IBC to restructure and try to turn this company around. It's not an easy job. It's also not fair to people who have worked there tails off for many years, but this is what Corporate America is about now. If you feel cheated, join the group and whine, but that will get you nowhere. I worked 21 years at General Motors. My wife works part time for IBC. I was 47 when I lost my job at GM. I was upset, but knew that sitting around blaming everyone would do no good. I went back toschool, learned how to fix computers, and now work for an IT company making a decent salary feeding my family. As long as they are happy, I AM! The only thing I could do is move forward and I did it. Sure, the first few months were tough, but I remained positive and succeeded. So, stop blaming Alvarez. It does no good. Keep working hard. If things don't go your way, stay positive! It's better than whining. Trust me!

I wonder how much of the 200 million the company borrowed is left. If Alverez is not careful he could loose the entire company. One large un expected expenditure, like under funded pension funds could easily sink the entire ship.

do you people remember the post where there were 4 ibc trucks at one stop. ibc is about 7 years behind in route consolidation. how about the hourly people that went back to the depot when they had run out of time.who took care of the stops.the drivers that did turn around will now pay the penalty. i pray that you find a job as good as you had.

Comment: Don't you just love this clown Alvarez? Everytime he announces closing plants and shutting down production lines, he is so sorry for the affected employee's. Right! Then somehow, several lines of print about his side-business appears and include words like "global savior." Right! He does not have a clue, folks! All he can do is spread bullshit like it was butter! Take the hint! Closing down producing bakeries brings down the top line producing nothing but lost opportunities! In America, you simply cannot do more with less! What Alvarez is trying to orchestrate is a business plan of paring down IBC to a size where he can sell it off as a packaged deal. What this package will consist of will be those states where their economy is robust and they have a large, working population. California, Arizona and Nevada will be among these remaining states. If he can't package it, he can't sell it and it will go by the wayside of America, piece-meal style!
