If you?re a member of a union the WARN act required IBC to provide notice to union officials only. Union officials did receive 60 days notice. Go to your union office and ask for a copy of it. Many did receive severance pay that our union management fought for. I worked for IBC Lakewood almost six years and got severance pay and several mts health insurance.

I can think of so many other places that IBC could have spent what little money they have left than on other than this website.

IBC recently layed off over 200 employees and closed the bakery in Lakewood. Most all of the employees did not receive a written notice of lay-off. Most received a verbal notice. And most received no severance package! In particular, I was employed initially in a non-union state for over 15 years and transferred to WA. I lost my seniority and was layed off because I only had 5 years in the union. The union here in Washington did NOTHING as far as negotiations or enforcing the WARN Act. IBC did not provide at a minimum 60 days WRITTEN notice to their employees. Some only received 2 weeks verbal notice (myself included). I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this type of treatment?

As a former IBC employee, now working for the Mexican white bear, I see that IBC days are numbered. The Market in California belongs to Sara Lee and Oroweat. Hostess is the only division that stands out and makes money for IBC. As a former Wonder Bread RSR, I never realised how bad the boys in K.C. is running the company to the ground. They are clueless. The Baker's Inn is a great product in the wrong package. The first 6 months of production, it was the best Pan bread in the market. With the new cost cuts the bread is lousy , hard and does not stay fresh. IBC can dominate the market if it wanted to. They own all their products ( except the roman meal, sunmaid) all it bakeries from east to west. Bimbo owns Oroweat in the west coast only, in the east its called arnold bread, by G.W. bakeries. Bimbo leases Entenmann's, thomas english muffins, pay their RSR's 80-100K a year and still turn a profit. IBC has all the Ingredents to be #1. Yet the same clowns want to run it to the ground, and in California at least will probably be piece off to Bimbo, and Sara Lee. Save up Boys, your Job days are numbered.

To all I.B.C. employee's: I was in Tennessee last week , and saw Hostess Zingers. I had to grin , smile , laugh, Ho, Ho! I am not sure why it took so long for I.B.C. to do this. Maybe, it was Anti-Trust law's ,or maybe it was because of I. B.C.'s unwillingness to force change. I went to a manager's Christmas party a couple of year's ago , and had a rude awakening. I thought we would be one company..... when I.B.C. bought Wonder/Hostess . I sat down and talked to the DM. from Hostess at that time, and had a good conversation. It was productive, but disconcerting at the same time. He said , that if you stacked ten Hostess 6 pk. cinnamon roll's against against ten Dolly Madison cinnamon roll's , that Hostess would out sell 2-1 over Dolly. Although , bitter at the time, I thought that he was right. The funny thing was , that they tried this in our Tx. market , and he was right. Shortly after they started distributing Hostess/Dolly rolls they stopped . I was sold on the idea of selling the best label , regardless of who it was . I once drove a Plant Mgr. to an airport for a flight , and asked the simple question ..... Why does it seem that Wonder/Hostess is running the show???? His response was , that it seemed that way to him.... It goes to show that I.B.C. did not have the foresight, to see that the opportunities existed . I digress into the abyss. It coulda, shoulda, woulda, but they did not have they ball's to stand up to the union . The union was strong back then, now they are a joke. P.S. Life is great away from the joke , that this company has become.

As a union official in attendance at bakery closings I have reminded the folks getting laid off to make sure they get every cent coming to them- unused vacation, worker's comp, pension, etc.. Our unions have also demanded improvements in our pensions like 5 year vesting, etc. so laid off workers don't lose everything when they get lid off after 8 or 9 years. Unfortunately a lot of benefits like pension still go unclaimed simply because workers don't know they're available. So if you know someone who has been laid off from IBC or any other workplace with a pension plan, remind them that they still may have locked in pension benefits, and they need to make sure their pension plan has their current address so they receive the annual reports and any updates.
