Sacrifices, Heat, Holidays, Weekends and the Drama I will not miss. The people and the times I miss already. However, I have a lifetime of killer memories tucked away. Here in So Cal its the same, no communication , massive paperwork that means nothing to sell bread, Division Managers mostly on routes so they can't do their job, no monitoring route orders at depot level, no moral, poor attitudes,and today there was 2 routes that never made it off the dock because we can't even get someone to stay on the job for more than 1-2 weeks. Coop, how can you sleep at night?...Oh, BONUS MONEY..never mind... Here in So Cal Sara Lee is making a big charge and just went from 4 rows to 4 feet in Stater Bros, now they just hired Willi St Pierre away from IBC...The same guy Coop forced out so he could get his buddy Barq in. Well I hate to say it but PAYBACKS are a bitch. Next Prediction C Russell gone along with S&Final... let the Bread Wars begin...

To XX You need to understand the level of frustration and complete dissolution of morale that is now part of the work-a-day routine for any employee below the white shirt and tie level. The information we recieve is spotty and very vague. We are the backbone of this company, and as such it is incumbant upon upper management to realise that. Without us upper management would not have a job, and yes, you could say the converse is also true but if accounting and payroll functions remained and the entirety of upper management was gone for a week, the company would still move. However, if the lower management and workers took the week off the company would grind to a halt. Some of us have put in many, many years with this company and have worked our tails off. We have been recently rewarded for our years of loyalty and service by having our work hours increased to such an extent that many of the older guys have fallen off out of exhaustion or injuries that are the result of the 15+ hours a day on the route. Think about it, jumping in and out of a truck and getting the pleasure of going to work at 2 am and getting home at 7 pm or later. This is not a long temr plan for keeping a happy workforce. New hires quit after a week once they see the kind of hours 10, 20 and even 30 year men are putting in, the look of exhaustion on the faces of most of the RSR's is depressing enough the new hire leaves thus we are short a man which just adds to the overloaded work schedule for those of us left. You said to the effect "pull the wagon, don't push it over the cliff" Well, it is hard to pull a wagon when it now weighs as much as TWO wagons and you have been whipped numb. So many 20 year men are scouring the want ads because they just want to cut the wagon loose and go elsewhere. Just a little food for thought when you feel like chiding others for opinions that might be harsh whilst sitting at a desk in an air conditioned room looking forward to a nice long 4th of July weekend.

We are biginning to show the wear and tear of all these indians running the bakeries due to the fact we are so short of managers throughout all of IBC. Custer(IBC) doesn't have a chance with all these indians running the operation. Don't fight it just apply the war paint and try to blend in.

To the 25 yr RSR. Upper management seems to think that we can hire idiots off the street to manage the bakeries and make a good quality loaf of bread. They have given us the task of shuffling papers and emails from one end of a desk to the other side of the desk. We don't get out into the bakery to supervise workers or ensure quality product are produced any more they are more concerned about getting the proper paperwork turned in then they are concerned about quality, too bad but thats the way the company is operated now. Upper management don't care about middle management, middle managers don't care about supervisors and supervisor don't care about the line worker. Remember everything starts at the top and it just trickles down to the bottom.

33.3% of Assistant Engineers at this plant never make it past 2 yrs. they go on vacation and never come back. WE HOPE!!!

Hey Fellas, being a 25 yr RSR dating back to when we had Webers, what is going on there??? Glendale used to produce top quality bread with few problems and was the backbone of So Cal. The quality of bread is embarrassing, and I hate to admit that!!! Is the plant mgmt that messed up ? poor quality ingrediants, bad attitudes, sabatoge,what is it?? I know with Cooper in charge thats no help but guys we need to pull together,rally for our jobs! In sales Barquist has no clue, never seen the guy, the big shots visit depots on Wed after they tell the district mgr...Hey guys why don't you show up unexpected on a Monday or Thursday, then you'll see the real deal!! Don't over react if you find a web site that is negative. Monitor the site but take no action unless the site receives a large number of hits or visitors. The legal fees probably wouldn't be worth it to fight the existence of the site. Often they will only receive a small number of hits

How is it that every time someone from the profit center shows some one around the plant, the reutrns are kept on the trucks?? The numbers that you guys keep playing with are soon going to catch up with all of you. The boys in KC have given you 8 weeks and nothing has changed. Its simple the #'s for ingredents don't match production #'s, then those #'s don't match shippings #'s That don't match sales #'s inturn don't match the amount of returns that you guys say has been reduced. All this adds up to the fact that you don't know what you're doing and pointing fingers at other poeple is not going to cut it any more.

To the people posting about bread in Texas. Here is some info from a person that ran a bread route in Texas. We had a bakery in Dallas. Soon after ibc bought us, they decided the bakery was outdated and land locked. IBC traded with earthgrains. our wonder label, our space for a bakery in virginia (now closed). Dallas was a big bakery, think 450 workers. had a good quality loaf. had good business. earthgraings started baking the bread for us. what a joke. the quality sucked so bad. burned bread, undercooked, some weighed 5 lbs. needless to say. we lost our ass. shelf space, customers. they only wanted our label to expand in areas they werent in and to get more space. they then started putting in rainbo, ironkids products and pulling ours out. ibc does have bread in texas, not much but some. we deliver to a lot of c-stores and of course to walgreens. and some parts of east texas are serviced with bread out of lousianna. we also put bakers inn in walmarts. mrs bairds use to own texas, they actually got in trouble for price fixing, filed bankruptcy, then sold to bimbo. its a shame, quality is sinking fast and flowers is picking up a lot of business. they just built a new bakery in texas. any questions, let me know.

With all those vacancies within the company. Do any of you In Kansas City ever wonder why no one wants these jobs? Now you have to settle for not the best candidate for the job. Our company is sure to go down in flames with second and third rate managers in those positions. Keep piling on more work to those of us who have stayed, when we finally decide to leave it will take two bodies to do what we have endured.

I think I finally figured it out? We have promoted everyone back in Kansas City to the positions of Vice President of this or that. When we come out of Bankruptcy and whoever gets the job of the new CEO, his first order of business will be to get rid of 75% of these newly created Vice President positions then we will be on our way to making some big money just in savings on these salaries. Good thinking, I guess that why I'm not in Management.

There are over 400 middle manager positions open across IBC land. These position are in Sales, Production, Engineering, and Sanitation. No one wants to work in these position and answer to the next level of managers above them. They have now turned to outside Hiring Profesionals or Head Hunter to find loser to fill these positions. The IBC attitude now is to look for individuals that are good managers but not necessarily any experiance in the position you are being hired for. Ralston Purina tried this way back 20 years ago and thats what contributed to their down fall. How many experience people have to leave before you realize this way of thinking don't work?

Please fire all District managers in each profit center,take the salary and hire the best account managers possible.I mean district managers just look at numbers and really don't sell anything(waste of money) all your tracking and forcasting should be completed by division managers.We need sales people not bean counters.

Re: Chicago Bakeries Closing Hodgkins is still a top rate plant with high speed lines and great rail and highway access, so it has decades of life left. If Lewis were to buy it they would close that kluge of a bakery on 55th that IBC had to just about give them before they'd close Hodgkins. Schiller Park's future is less certain, but with so many other cake lines going down IBC will need it unless they manage to run Hostess and Dolly completely into the ground. But ultimately age and lack of space may be the death of Schiller Park.

I have heard other rumors of this Jack buying up the midwest areas. Its a good idea as new leadership is needed. Right now our leadership just collects pay checks and bonus checks and are only figureheads.

we've been saying it on this site for a long time. in the chicago area, the bread of choice is brownberry. we saw this in all our stores on a regular basis. the only areas that brownberry and similar breads don't do so good are the more impoverished neigborhoods were they buy things like county fair and private label cheap bread, which wonder is trying to move away from. this means that soon there will be no more chicago market for this company. no money in cheap bread and no one wants to buy our premium...

Has anyone else wondered about the fact that of the management types that keep quiting within the Company, are related to the financials of this dying Company. I have talked with several and their main reason as they look at the sinking debt and lossess is that Tony A and his boys have no real plan of action to pull this Company out of the crapper. One of the Finance guys who quit several months ago told me that when he asked about seeing the written plans that were to be sent to the Bankruptcy Judge for review, he was told there was NONE. That they were going to tell the Judge that the plans were developed and had to be scrapped due to the incompetance of the work force and the unions refusal to assist in saving this Company and asked for an extension to redesign the plans. The Ex-Manager said he could not take it any longer and was tired of seeing the top executives walking away with large bonuses for not doing anything and then telling the middle management there was no bonus granted or money for raises, but that they were still expected to work 60-80 a week, and they would see their reward at the end of the process. The Ex-Manager told me he thought that Tony and his bunch of crooks must think that all middle management types were idiots since they could see the monies being given away when then reviewed the general ledger (which was part of his job). He said these bonsus were paid to all individuals who were above the title of Director or VP, (level 15 or above), noone at the level of Manager got a dime, (Level 13 or below). This individual walked away from a career of 15 years with IBC and noone even seemed to notice or wished him good luck except for the few employees that worked with him. He said once he gave his notice he was no longer talked to by anyone above him in management - except to give him orders of things he was expected to complete prior to his departure. The sad part of it was knowing him he probably did the exercises due to his charcater and as soon as he walked out he was trashed by the upper execs due to his lack of loayalty to IBC or his Division. What a shame the good guys just keep walking out. And the real sad part of it for us that are still here is now we deal with Managers who do not care about the employees just the result and how to make themselves shine in front of Tony/Mike or the rest of the crooks so that maybe they can get a bonus just like them - even though the real hard work was done before they even got promoted into the position they occupy now. To those who have given up - we do not blame you - you are missed (for the most part) for you hardwork and attitude and more importantly your experience and input. Best of luck to you all.

When will all learn that Smith knows nothing about sales - except how to screw it up. He is very good at pissing off store management especially right before the salesman is due into the stop. If your a saleswoman the only way you will survive around Smith is to have a nice rack and show it to him. O.K. Now is everybody gonna say that Razz , knew what was up. I am sorry for the people that are left working at that pathetic company. It used to be a proud place to work . I left after ten years, because I knew it was a dead end job. When I gave proper notice , Noone even contacted me. Personally, I felt bad , but it only reinforced the deplorable workplace , that the company has become. I lead in sales as a rt. rep. and as a sales mgr. I left as I said I would . I forgot to mention that a written notice (not a generic letter) has to go to each employee (their name on it). A posted notice is not considered an individual notice of layoff. I knew about the closing but the law states you get your notice personally, as well as the union and state office. Just an fyi, that's all.

George Bush: You must have been in the bakery union. I am talking about another union that was not given notice regarding the layoff nor were the few employees that belonged to it. Everyone was given a verbal, 2 week notice. The union rolled over, has not fought for severance pay or anything else for that matter. They just say they are looking into it. Now, my lawyer is looking into it. I am protected by the WARN act- read it again, notice does have to go not only to the union & employee, it has to go to a couple of State goverment offices (job source and unemployment). Just an fyi. Anyone else not getting a written notice, contact your attorney and the federal labor departments. IBC did not follow the laws for some!
