Jeff is right about supervisors. Most of them are now glorified extra men. They make no decisions whatsoever. You really should give them some respect, because they not only have to make sure you do your job, but they have amountain of paperwork to do now. I know. I used to be one. And they have several people breathing down their neck for their precious paperwork. Dont bother going out and selling. Just turn in the paperwork and say that you did. No one ever checks anyway.

To all of you who put down the supervisors you need to understand one thing. They are told what to do all the time and with all the crap they have to do very rarely do they have time to go out and help sales reps. While some do go about it the wrong way the majority are very good at their job. I can only talk about San Diego because I worked there for 19 years before I was laid off. Natures pride is a bust !! When its on sale it sells decent but when its not it just helps increase our stale %. Even on sale it still hasn't made up for the loss of bakers inn which didn't sell a tremendous amount either. We basically traded one line of stale for another. If they would have promoted (given away) bakers inn as much as they do NP we would have been better off. The only time i can see an increase in sales (units) is when we give product away and that includes the whole line of IBC bread. Then we sell more units but make less money because we aren't selling enough to cover the difference in PA. Years ago we controlled the market but now we have more companies competing with equal or better quality products and they aren't going to go out of business so we will never gain our market share back. Peolpe use to pick up our bread even if it was more expensive and now they are doing the same thing with our competitors bread.

i just wanted to give a shout out to all the route salesmen out there and to let you all know were you 120 a week is going in this fine outfit we here in the rocky mtn area get all of our cake out of columbus ga. 99% comes in cardboard boxes well we use to ship them back to the bakery well about two months ago rocky mnt plant said dont send them back any more just throw them away well this has caused alot of problems because we now have to take them out to the dumpster every morning or else they pile up in the depot here in the rocky mtn area we go through alot of cake we had a big town hall meeting about a month ago with mike powers the big head cheese in jacksonville fla this was a hot topic because he was told that each box cost the compnay 50 cents to make well if you take all the routes here that adds up one xtra man i know had to take three truck loads of boxes to the dump on a wensday per the district mng and throw them away it was a total of 1700 pounds for all three loads that is just one weeks worth in one depot that is alot of money well mike powers all he could say during that whole meeting that he got it meaning he knew about the problem but has done nothing with it that is a slap in the face to all of us and a waste of our concession money if any body out there knows anyone in the media or high up in this company please pass this on we are suppose to be a green country but with crap like this is happening we are not also with many different unions that we have out there we hsould be able to corrct this and have the compnay buy some trays to take care of the problem so once again i wanted to let you all know what is happening here in the rocky mount area were YOUR money is going and all mike powers can say during that meeting is I GOT IT so please pass this on

To anonymous: I should have clarified myself a little better the route originally sold 9-12k a week. The route just recently took on a HYvee and the DSM ordered something like 13K on monday and another 17K on tuesday lol. I am not sure how much more was ordered for the rest of the week I do know that route has on average been staling 1k a week. Get this the driver that had been doing it they fired him because he wouldnt listen to the retarded DSM and then the DSM and another wanker above him tried to lie about why the guy was fired. The guy they fired had that route down to a freakin science. Now the route is completely messed up. From what I heard they fired two guys on Memorial day weekened. Now wouldnt you wait till after a major holiday to fire someone? I guess under this new DSM there have been approx. 7-8 guys quit and get fired. The DSM thinks he is a change insurgent the problem is he isn't qualified. To make change you need to know the business and what the customer needs are.

I think everyone realizes Natures Pride is not the answer. IF it reaches our highest expectations it would still not make a positive difference in a $2 Billion company but if it doesn't it will/can create a loss. I don't see IBC (or any company) dramatically increasing units AND dollars in the wheat bread market. (See my last post.. The example with white bread holds true here too.) We don't foresee the units increasing unless the cost per unit decreases and with the current competition, I don't see the units increasing enough at the lower cents per unit to compensate IBC for the lower margins. I agree with your post on the quality improving but customers expect (and are entitled) to quality on every purchase. We are no longer providing that and as you said, on one of our few 100% products (Stoneground). It is not and has not been a quality loaf of bread. The customer especially expects quality on what is supposed to be a premium and healthy variety bread and routinely receive such quality ftom our competitors.

Cincy, you are right in your logic but not entirely correct in reality. IBC has been primarily promoting white bread in Cincy. Total white bread sales in the US have been steadily declining for years. IF Ibc were to gain just a percent or two market share on white bread sales over the next year or so, The increase would do virtually nothing for sales and probably create a net loss in dollars due to the promotional pricing which gained the unit increase. For example, If there are 10,000,000 units of white bread to be sold in Cincy this year and IBC has 10% market share they are currently selling 1 million units of white bread at approx. $1.12 per unit or $1,12 million dollars. If you assume white bread sales overall decrease 5% and IBC gains 1% then IBC sells just 45,000 more units but at a lower cost (due to cents off) which is probably about $1.06 per unit average meaning their revenue is reduced to $1.1 million dollars. So IBC would have received less revenue but produced more units thereby possibly losing money. We were already losing with our old pricing and larger market share which is why we were in BK in the first place. This is just a random sample but I think you can understand it. Our competition is letting IBC sell their white bread (at a loss) while the competitors increase units in the growing and more profitable variety breads. IBC is stupid !!!!

The report from one of the nation's largest companies illustrates the damage from a severe recession that has only recently begun to lift, leaving consumers and businesses devastated by high rates of defaults in everything from credit cards to mortgages. CEO Jeffrey Immelt described the current environment as "tough" but said the global economy is slowly recovering. General Electric Co.'s total quarterly profit fell to $2.4 billion, or 23 cents per share, hurt sharply lower earnings at its GE Capital arm, which loans money for businesses ranging from credit cards to shopping centers. A year earlier, the Fairfield, Conn.-based company earned $4.3 billion, or 43 cents a share. GE's overall revenue fell 20 percent to $37.8 billion, coming up short of what Wall Street was looking for. It's a sign that the conglomerate still faces a long road to recovery.
