I worked for IBC, Parisian in San Diego for over 17 years and was laid off when we were laid off thanks to the Teamsters we didnot get severance. I now work for IBC in Idaho and we do not have to belong to the teamsters if we don't want to. I would be a teamster right now if they would have taken care of me but they didn't. That is $46.00 that will not go to them. I know it is not a lot but it is my way of thanking them for the job they didn't do.

Teamsters members you had better check your contract about severance pay? One of the reasons the Southern California Teamsters did not receive any severance pay was because the Brotherhood contract is in a grey area whether you get it or not when you have a plant closing. This benefits both the Company and Teamsters because of the grey areas. As long as the Teamsters like Hoffa are getting their take of money is all that matters and Company is happy because its not in writing so both have a win, win. Don't assume you will get anything if your plant is closed and watch out for yourself, don't assume your union is watching out for any members. As long as Union Officers are still in their positions after the dust settles is all they care about.

I am aware of the Hopper case and was surprised some of the families didn't attempt to sue IBC. Hopper committed some of the crimes while an employee and on while on company time and even while driving a company vehicle. One of the worst things for IBC is the fact that most of the good rsr's and management have left. They have either gotten out of the business entirely or are now working against us for a competitor. So the ones who were helping keep our heads above water are now gone and are actually taking more business from us. Then you factor in that the new people are being trained by the inexeperienced ones that are remaining so they don't have much of a chance in being a good rsr or manager either.

I used to work for IBC and now own a route with a competitor. Although I still have a lot of friends at IBC, I have a personal vendetta against IBC for treating us like shit for so long and they continue to get worse daily. I am mostly motivated by increased sales which, of course leads to a better route and more money in my pocket but I also take great pride in taking business from the assholes (management) at IBC. Everyone I know who has jumped ship has been successful with IBC's competitors which proves we can do a good job if given the proper tools and have a reason to be motivated. Sorry, IBC, but I will continue to take more and more of your business and there isn't a damn thing you can do to prevent it. You have reduced your quality, raised your prices and pissed off virtually every existing employee. Most the good ones have left. and the few good employees only stay because they have too much time in to leave but even those guys realize IBC has screwed them and are just putting in their time. The unions will be the last to know what is going on from a sale stand point. They would only muddy the water and would not have a say in a sale that breaks current contract and lets the sale be done with out taking on current contacts. The courts will agree to do this because they want the bakeries to stay open so people will have jobs and buyers will not buy if they have to deal with unions. In todays high unimploment numbers what Federal court and that is who will rule will want to add to the numbers. The sales will take place just do not know the time scedule but Ripplewood wants out.

This is my first post to the site but I havekeep up with it for a good time now and decided I need to give my imput. I have worked for the company 33 years I started at the bottom on a route and workrd to the top. Some where along the way with many changes in ownership and leadership and selfish people we forgot that our people were the biggest asset we had. The unions got greedy not our people the company got greedy not our people and we drove a wedge in between each group and lost the team. We are were we are today because of this. We have lost a lot of good people from mangment and regular workers because the union put a bigger devide there and no one every really knew what the real truth was and they gave up. I have always manged from the position side with the employee 90% of the time and the company 10% of the time the company can afford it. I have reached the end of the road and it is time to walk away. I leave with a sad heart knowing what we had and could still be and what we are today. There are good people here on both sides but all have given up beacuse we have no leadership at the top and bad attitudes at the bottom. bless you all.

Ripplewood is going to sale and they will sale off in regions. They have buyers with intrest but only if they do not have to pick up current agreements with bargining units. No one company is going to buy the intire company because they do not have enough mangers to make sure there way of running company would stay in place more of us than them. The value goes up greatly by not haveing to deal with unions and the new buyers will not deal with unions. The new buyers and Ripplewood will get OK from court to sell this way because they want to be able to say they saved jobs not closed a company. The court knows and the buyers will push that they have to have people to work in the plants and it cost a ton of money to train new people we will keep most of the ones there now. The company is going to be sold and some of us will have a job some will not but there will be no union and to keep a job you will have to work and be productive.

Fortunately for the labor force, IBC nor any other company can afford to be away from the market place for more than a nano second. It is far less expensive to continue to do business with the unions than it would be to legally bargain with the unions to a point in time called impasse. Mad at the Teamsters? The for in the road at the time was to agree with the concessions and the company stays afloat or to not agree and the company liquidates. The Teamsters had no bargaining power to negotiate a better deal with a company in bankruptcy. The vote for concessions has given the company an opportunity to try to become successful (no they're not doing a very good job so far) and given you an opportunity to work your last five years and then collect your pension. And you're mad at the Teamsters for that?
